  • UPDATE! Took it apart again, went through the same process, however this time used a tiny smidge of electrical cleaner on the contact board. Did the trick, and alls sorted!
    Nord Stage 3 88 key with weird irrational velocities. In this video I attempt to cure, but only end up improving. I improved it a lot, and the one remaining note is much better than it was. Let me know what you think!

    Thanks for showing the inside! At 6:58 I saw exactly what I was looking for: one of the mounting profiles for the Nord Stand Ex brackets. I’ve ordered this stand for my NS3 Compact, which I know is not supported, but I’m planning to create and install some similar profiles. There’s plenty of room inside so it should work out. Cheers!

    I would have marked the offending key(s), so that when it is open, you can examine those keys the most.
    While open, I would also blow-out all the jacks for dust-bunnies. Also, I would use contact cleaner on some cotton-tipped swabs, and wipe/clean the inside those 1/4 inch jacks.

    Nice video, there aren't any videos of Nord showing the actions of their keybeds like other brands do, now I see why, It's dissapointing to see that such a high priced keyboard has plastic action, for the same price you can get a Kawai MP11SE with wood keys and a grand piano action, or for less price than the NS3 you can a get a Yamaha CP88 also with wood keys.
    Korg has the RH3 action all plastic, and the SV2 is a lot lower in the price range... I think I'll go for the SV2 73 keys. I guess with Nord the extra price is for their sound samples...

    This could help:
    ruclips.net/video/u_O6h2-2GNA/видео.html
    To address the issue, you should first detach the Conductive Rubber located beneath the key and carefully clean the contact areas underneath. The rubber can be easily removed, cleaned, and then repositioned without significant risk.
    Understanding the underlying mechanism is crucial. Each rubber piece houses two keys, with one key being slightly higher than the other. Pressing a key initially activates the higher key, followed shortly by the activation of the second key, depending on the speed of the press. The keyboard controller calculates the time difference between the activations of the two keys to determine the speed at which the key was pressed.
    Over time, the contact points within the rubber can accumulate dirt, leading to only one key sending a signal. Consequently, the controller interprets this as the key being pressed at maximum speed, which is noticeable in the louder sound produced by a faulty key. Therefore, it is necessary to remove the rubber, clean the conductive areas inside it, and then reinstall it.
    However, be careful to avoid touching, scraping, or applying any chemicals to the graphite conductors on the board (PCB) itself, as this could cause irreversible damage.
    **Disclaimer:** This procedure is intended for informational purposes and should be performed at your own risk. If you lack technical expertise, it is advisable not to attempt this repair yourself.

    • @groovemonkey73
      @groovemonkey73  4 года назад +1

      Hey! Thanks for the comment! Well, interesting subject - I don't like Nord weighted hammer actions. I never have, to me, they don't feel 'right'. I think the Nord is of medium weight, but I'm also a piano tech, so I play and work on lots of different types of acoustic piano, so its difficult to compare weights, as it varys so much on different acoustic pianos. The Nords action is heavier than the upright piano in the video, but not as heavy as some other digital actions. One of the best digital actions I've come across is the Korg SV-1!

    • @groovemonkey73
      @groovemonkey73  4 года назад +1

      Heavier than my upright, and slightly heavier than the Nord. However, the rh3 action doesn't feel too much in my opinion. It feels responsive, with a satisfying progression to it. Certainly doesn't feel 'cheap' like the Nord (in my opinion). I think that's why they used the Kawai action in the Nord Grand. Acoustic pianos can vary so much - I work as a tech for a local dealer, so I'm in contact with lots of different acoustic pianos, and can compare lots in quick succession, and it can be difficult to find the 'right' one for your own preferences!

      I agree, it shouldn't be necessary! Nord's waterfall action is brilliant (which I have on my stage 2 compact). Unfortunately their HP and fully weighted actions don't stand the test of time. They're great to start with, but aren't reliable. I think that's why they went with the Kawai action for the Nord Grand.

      @@groovemonkey73I had an electro 2 and two electro 3's all waterfall, all suffered the same issue you describe. Well the problem is dust and the reason it wasn't fixed right away is because you did not clean the contact directly. The problem is under the rubber, you just have to remove the rubber from the offending keys then clean the contact with Isopropyl alcohol (the GOLD contact ONLY should be cleaned with isopropyl no other part). Under the rubber you will find a black contact that completes the circuit when pressed, this is adhesive paint and it shall not be cleaned with any solvent at all cause you will just remove it all in a single wipe. If you have no specialized cleaning solution dry cleaning would be the best choice for this part.
