Also, I found a bottle of Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Barrel Proof Rye and it’s incredible. I really hope you can find a good bottle that you enjoy and do a full review. My bottle is 136 proof and is the best rye I’ve ever had other than the JD 2020 LE.
My brother in law got me this for my birthday and it is phenomenal. Literally smells like a pina coloada and transports me to the Bahamas. The palate is amazing too and I can’t wait to pair this with a cigar. Very unique
Hey Jason. Love the channel! What are your thoughts on Heaven Hill going to various age statements on future ECBP releases instead of the 12 year? Would love to hear your opinion on it. Keep up the good content!
I picked this up about 3 weeks ago for $133 in IL. Did not care for the first taste, but let it open up and it became very enjoyable. Nothing like the Joseph Magnus Cigar Blend batch 93 I have. 🥃
I really enjoyed the OE Cigar Blend but I really enjoy scotch and High Malt whiskeys. I did share it with a friend who is a Blanton’s drinker and he didn’t like it as much. As with all whiskey, taste is subjective. Great review by Jason.
Agree. As primarily being a Scotch drinker, although I love my fair share of American whiskies, I thought this blend was pretty damn tasty. As you said, though, subjective. Didn't come across as very malty. I'll have to revisit. The American whiskey & Bourbon market has really driven me back to Scotch these days.
Hey Jason, nice review as always. And, ehm, I guess this is the day I finally type this comment. But that grinds me for years now 😅 To be more precise, after some research, since your video on Sam Houston 15 on June 7, 2021. Please don't take offense, but what did happen to the lighting from then on. Maybe you talked about that in a video or stream that I missed. I'm just curious whath is the idea of this "enlighted style" 😉
I have seen this in stores a few times and passed on it everytime. I agree that I think everything Old Elk is way overpriced with what they are offering. I have had some good picks but almost everytime I feel that U overpaid for what I got.
I just did this comparison the other day. I think it was JM batch 128. I preferred the OE, but I am also a big scotch drinker. I also preferred the OE with a cigar (Oliva Melanio V). Again, I enjoy pairing cigars with scotch.
Old Elk Cigar Blend versus Peerless Double Oaked Rye. Which should I purchase tomorrow? Both are $139 where I'm at. I know. Ridiculous. But it's central MO and we don't get much.
Building a library cost money...with that said I did purchase this hesitantly but will hope for the best...I will say the price on OE's offerings is elevated and not always a home run purchase. Will compare this to Joseph Magnus #115 is have...Love the vid!!
Great video, Jason. Thanks so much for reviewing this for us. I haven’t tried it but I have the Cognac finishes bourbon and it’s alright but not worth the $90 I paid. I’ll have to try a pour at a bar out of curiosity though. Joseph Magnus is an absolute monster and at around MSRP is a must buy for anyone who sees a bottle. Cheers!
Great review as always Jason. Are you gonna grab and review the Old Elk Wheat N Rye release? I’m really interested in your take on that whiskey. Cheers
Thanks for the review on that Old Elk. Saw it for $139 yesterday and skipped… after watching this, glad I made that decision! Appreciate all your quality reviews Jason!
this is the regular Cigar Cut from Old Elk. Have you tired the Cigar Cut "Island Blend" by Old Elk?? Its one of my favorites and wins in blinds all the time.
Great video, I love The Joseph Magnus Cigar Blend and bought the Old Elk cigar cut a month or so back and it’s not on par, to me. I find the Magnus much more rich, dense flavors. So at $125, the blend is not cheap enough to make up the difference to be a great alternative, so I will look forward to other alternatives as they come out. Cheers Jason, go 76ers
We have JMCB at home. At home: Old Elk CC. Feels bad to drop 130 on this. I understand you pay an extra 15 per finish, but it just isn't worth anything approaching this price. Maybe it will improve, but I'm not hopeful.
FYI: believe it or not, Joseph Magnus Cigar blend is ONLY finished in Armagnac casks, despite what the label says (no cognac or sherry). Nancy Frailey has said this publicly on the record numerous times
Spot on Jason. Definitely gonna be a number of these “cigar” expressions. Just like so many offerings in the toasted and double barrel category. And HARD pass at $120. In general, way too much variability in annual release or finished expressions like JMCB, Four Gates, etc….to justify their crazy price points. Don’t get me wrong some of them are really solid but NONE of them are $200 solid. I Walk past them and happy to see them starting to sit on shelves. People need to just STOP paying these absurd prices…only way distillers will adjust pricing.
As a CO resident it pains me to say that Old Elk needs to chill on the pricing. $120 for a 6 year bourbon, even if it’s finished is crazy. I’ve been eyeing their Double Wheat but can’t pull the trigger for $90+
I got myself one along with an 8y SiB...they are both malty which is fine with me since is a good way of exploring your palate into single malt whiskey...they are good and delicious...the only downside would be the price point but I would still rather buy this before Starlight or Nulu that are also high priced but with a lower age and quality of whiskey... anyway cheers Jason 🥃
Nice review. I'm a scotch guy first and never had a problem with maltyness, Balviene is malty imo. If I found this OE Cigar Cut for under $100 (maybe Costco) I'd buy it. Can't get JM Cigar Blend for under $300 here in NoCal... oh well. Cheers!
Probably in the minority, but I’m not a big fan of pairing cigars and whiskey - I much prefer a tawny port. JM cigar blend is $300 here in the Los Angeles area and damn near worth it. Some of the early batches are total hitters. #22 being my favorite.
@@jamessocal8946 That's awesome. I've never even tried it. The only bottle I ever saw up here in Santa Rosa was $300, batch 68. I just can't do that unless it's BTAC etc. Heck, I paid less for my 2020 GTS and THH $200 each LOL!
Those Cadbury bars are 2 for $5 at my local Vons grocery store. Fire up a nice cigar, sip some Old Grand Dad 114 and enjoy the chocolate. You will save yourself about $100. Just saying. 👍
I'm a big fan of OE wheated bourbon. But, the last few "special" releases have really fallen short for me. The last infinitey bottle was over oaked, and this cigar blend lacked balance. I like malt. And I really like malted american whiskey when its aged and balanced. But this one just didn't do it for me. Especially at +125. I think I am just going to stick to my wehated bourbon select picks from onw on.
To me "Cigar" is just marketing hype. If you like finished whiskies whether it's cognac, armagnac, or port - that's great,m they can be fantastic so go for it. But just about any bourbon pairs well with a cigar. You don't need the expense of a finish to get that. WT 101 and OGD BiB are both great in pairings. To me the flavor has got to stand on its own one way or the other.
I've stopped buying Old Elk for all the reasons you mention in here- the price to quality ratio is inflated (even worse if you take the age of the bourbon into account).
Totally malt heavy. Overpowers the whiskey and the finishes. The finishes do come through in the finish tho. Probably the best part of this one. Still much prefer JM CB

I grabbed this Old Elk cigar blend tonight. It’s…very very good. And this is a solid review.
Your reviews are so good. Very helpful
Dammit J! You got it with that Cad-nut bar! I couldn’t crack it. Well done sir. 👏🏻

I just picked this up today Dave...will let it open up like you say before doing a quick review. Cheers buddy.
I really enjoyed the OE Cigar Blend but I really enjoy scotch and High Malt whiskeys. I did share it with a friend who is a Blanton’s drinker and he didn’t like it as much. As with all whiskey, taste is subjective.
Great review by Jason.
Yeah that makes sense. The malt really comes through in this and can come off like a single malt scotch to some.
I friggin love those Cadbury Fruit & Nut bars.

Damn I loved those Cadbury candy bars ❤😩

Great review. Once you said high malt I knew it wasn't going to be for me. I do enjoy the Old Elk Bourbon finished in Armagnac.
I enjoy Dalmore King Alexander with a full flavored cigar. Although I don't smoke one very often and thank God since that Scotch is $$$$.
Building a library cost money...with that said I did purchase this hesitantly but will hope for the best...I will say the price on OE's offerings is elevated and not always a home run purchase. Will compare this to Joseph Magnus #115 is have...Love the vid!!
Can't find Johseph Magnus sugar blend here so on impulse bought the old Elk because I've liked these juice
Haven't opened it yet but I'll let you know
Would love to see you review the Buzzard's Roost cigar finish. Have you tried it?
did you compare this to an early batch of JMCB #27? Did you have a chance to see how OECC measured up to the more recent batches of JMCB?
Great video, Jason. Thanks so much for reviewing this for us. I haven’t tried it but I have the Cognac finishes bourbon and it’s alright but not worth the $90 I paid. I’ll have to try a pour at a bar out of curiosity though. Joseph Magnus is an absolute monster and at around MSRP is a must buy for anyone who sees a bottle. Cheers!
Glad I waited for this review! Was hoping it would be JMagnus-esque but at $130 was holding off until you reviewed
Great review as always Jason. Are you gonna grab and review the Old Elk Wheat N Rye release? I’m really interested in your take on that whiskey. Cheers
I've had a sample of Joseph Magnus Cigar Blend (batch 97, I think) and it was spectacular. But I've never tried any Old Elk.
I’m a big fan of the Joseph Magnus whiskies.
Thanks for the review on that Old Elk. Saw it for $139 yesterday and skipped… after watching this, glad I made that decision!
Appreciate all your quality reviews Jason!
Can you review these again and throw in the Dalmore Cigar blend for comparrison.
this is the regular Cigar Cut from Old Elk. Have you tired the Cigar Cut "Island Blend" by Old Elk?? Its one of my favorites and wins in blinds all the time.
Saw a Magnus in a glass case the other day for $260. Not a fan of finished whiskeys but love Old Elk.
I seen this on the shelf about 3 weeks ago and passed. The Infinity Blend has me hesitant on Old Elk limiteds.

Goes Great with Davidoff Year of the Rabbit Cigar.
We have JMCB at home.

How do they legally get away with that??

Tough weekend for your Mets Jason my Rockies went into Queens and took 2 out of 3😃⚾
Mets don't look good so far this season. Ugh
@@TheMashandDrum My Rockies have been good at times but more bad 🤣⚾
Been a solid for me juicy w jammy fruit and sti solid bourbon foundation w oak notes

Totally agree about a good intro into malt for sure.

I have a JMCB that I absolutely love and I have a JMCB that I cannot stand. Of course, I have an extra of the one I can't stand...
For the price I think its steep would like to try it but the coin for Old Elks seems a bit much I see more value out of the Old Elk store picks.
You should try The Dalmore Cigar Blend
I wish I could say that I was used to drinking ago burns Joseph Magnus cigar blends 😂
JM is also double the price. And I like malt, so I prefer the OE.

Sorry, but I still don't understand the cigar name description
I haven’t even seen it here in CO yet 🙄
Good ol Joseph Manus 😂
I think the problem with this whiskey is that it really needs to be paired with a cigar, otherwise it doesn't really do it for me.
Totally malt heavy. Overpowers the whiskey and the finishes. The finishes do come through in the finish tho. Probably the best part of this one. Still much prefer JM CB
Thanks for comparing it to the Magnus. I'm not a malty guy so might be a pass for me.
Old Elk is overpriced for the bottles i have tried, I will not be purchasing OE anytime soon.
Out of MGP Warehouses to a Colorado bottling plant...
Was not a fan , and regret the purchase, had a rotten plum note that just wouldn’t go away .
