You asked for different ways to remove the blower wheel or fan from the motor shaft . Years ago in the 80s, when I was starting in the HVAC field an old timer taught me a trick because I was tearing up the blower motor fan on a furnace. Lol His trick was to loosen the set screw and place an old socket over the shaft onto the collar of the fan, hitting it with a hammer to drive the fan blade just a little bit further down onto the shaft. Then use sand paper to clean the old motor shaft before attempting to remove it. There's always a rust or dirt line around it. When it's clean then I spray it with oil before I attempt to remove it by gently prying it from behind with 2 screwdrivers. You may already do this but it's worked for me for a long time. You have the best repair videos I've ever seen online for this type of repairs. Thank you for taking the time it really helps me.
Outstanding video. Well presented. Great information. No supurflous banter. Just the needed facts in the correct amount of time. I wish ALL instructional videos were this well presented. Thank you.
Great video! Spoke with Mobile RV, repair technician and his advice was to get a whole new furnace. He told me replacing fan motor would be too laborious. You have given me enough confidence to replace it myself. Thank you.
Yeah I like that. You can do it. Yes I can do it. I don't want to lol. And I'm using the age card 60. But no, you can't even hire people to do anything without breaking stuff and they're lazy. Anyway I digress. Yes when will these young kids work as hard as people from or how we were raised. That's the biggest challenge I ever renovation modeling business and I've rental properties. It's pretty much impossible but I shouldn't give up and that's why you're still doing it. You can't find good help I don't think. Anyway, thank you, thank you, thank you. It took me a long time to find this video and I just have to make sure I find the right motor. It's just a squeaking thing and it's plugged in so I don't really have to worry about any of the other stuff. But I'll inspect and if I'm digging in there. I'm doing everything a lot of stuff you got to take off and put on what happened to plug and Play lol
This is a great video, helped me more than I am able to put to words. Just a note, when he says that the exhaust fan can be a problem believe him. Took me every bit of 30 minutes. Putting that worm gear clamp back on is not child's play either.
Thank you, Darren. You have demystified RV repairs for myself, and I would guess many others also. Clear and concise directions make it easy to follow.
Thorough, and the squealing of this motor is exactly what our furnace motor sounds like, something dying. Was glad to find a video that directly illustrated the issue and solution I've got and need, respectively. Thank you
I just ran through this process. Worked perfectly, almost. I didn't quit get the plug back onto the control board all the way so the heater ignored the thermostat and just kept running. Supper easy fix. Plug it in all the way. Recomendation: I think you should buy the smaller blower fan (the one on the right for the fire box) just in case you break the old one. Just return it if you don't need it, but the only one is a pain to get off the shaft. I'm very thankful I found this video. My repaired heater works great now, and so quiet.

Thanks for a great video. I wasn't sure exactly how to get my motor replaced. The problem I have is getting the exhaust port out but now I know how to get it done. KUDOS Sir!!
Glad I found this video great job I've had a fair run with my camper lately for some reason or another this all happened recently the converter quit and stopped charging I replaced it $450, the next day the thermostat quit I replaced it with a Honeywell residential worked great, 2 days later the blower started screaming like this one did, I kinda took it apart and lubed it just to buy time over the weekend and now it fires for about 5 mins and starts blowing cold for a couple mins and kicks on again repeatedly...I get all my new parts tomorrow!! Doing the whole job every piece is getting replaced now I know what they all so huge help thank you
Great and helpful video. As a Retired U S Navy Engineering Officer , Graduate of RV School at Lane Community College and spending 32 of the last 35 years as a full timer I thank you for your detailed videos. One thing I would add would be a check of the propane line fitting after reattaching. Keep up the good work.
Yes indeed, you are correct. I have a gas sniffer, you may have seen in some of my other videos, and once I run the system I do a sniff test with that device. Thanks for the comment happy camping.

Well just my two cents. Sounds like a different issue that you might have to search. The guy's pretty busy. Just saying. So just Google and RUclips it. Who knows. Everything needs to be replaced. It's old. I'm so glad I found this video!
Awesome, very informative. Keep the videos coming. I had the same problem with the high limit switch. The burner kept going on and off and it would never get to temp inside the coach. What I ended up finding out was only 4 of the 5 ducts were only hooked up . As soon as I hooked up the 5th duct to the basement off the coach, it worked flawless. Just a tidbit of info for ya. Keep up the great work.
Great videos, it helped me diagnose a rusty burner like this one had on my 18 year old RV. Because of it's age and since I had everything out, I replaced the ignitor and valve assembly too. As for replacing a motor, since you have everything out, I'd go ahead and replace the limit switch. It's only $20 bucks on Amazon, but will save you the labor cost of doing all this again later. That's cheap insurance compared to losing your heat in the middle of the night and having to call a repairman to diagnose and replace it. Generally, labor costs are far more than parts cost, so if you're taking everything apart, might as well invest a few extra bucks, especially for older RVs.
I have a worn out Atwood 8536 lpg heater so was wondering if you could get me another one or a replacement one. I enjoy your video's very helpfull. Hope I get a reply from you Thanks
Excellent video. Very well done, understandable and well shot. I followed it closely in changing my motor and squirrel cage. Pretty sure I could not have done it without your video. So thank you a lot. One note, my setup had a Z shaped motor stiffener.

Hi, that was very helpful, our fifth wheel was vandalized a while ago, furnace wires pulled out as well, your video helped me wire it back up, as well as changing out the motor or other parts for the furnace. Thank you.
This is great! Mine's shrieking for a couple seconds on startup, but I'll be doing the replacement myself once it's not -20 celcius out and before it gets worse
Great video i am about to tackle this job for my father and wouldn't have attempted it without watching this first.Very detailed thanks you for posting.
My 1998 companion kit fith wheel camper has a Atwood Mobile Products 8525 - iii furnace in it. I live in my camper and here in central Wyoming it gets very cold during the winter so having my furnace working is extremely important and your video seriously helped me get it back up and running like new
I also installed a 8kw diesel heater as a backup to the furnace. I got one of the cheap Chinese diesel heaters and I think all in it cost me $150 but it works really well and it wasn't that hard to instal.

I'll tell you it took me several hours to keep searching. This is a great video. Yeah it started squealing really loud. + This is what I have to take care of. The challenge is this elderly woman who I run it to. There's trees and bushes in that area so. I can do it but I have to clear an area. I digress. You just got to take your time and I wish they made it easy. I was thinking maybe I just shoot some lithium grease in that bearing. There's no way to get to it without pulling it apart and if I pull it apart I might as well change it. That's what I was thinking but it's just a nightmare. Just a lubricate it and it's forget it. Anyway, thank you very much. This is a great video and I was a little like I don't feel like doing that. Then I look at labor prices and I could do it but I don't want to but it would motivated me is this is real time. Anyway thanks so much and I got to stop being being lazy the thing is I've been doing this all my life. It's almost like I don't have to but labor prices are crazy. So now I got to get back to work and do this but anyway so I may not be able to do it. And as long as your video and it's hooked up to power so I don't think I'm going to have to worry about. Well I'll see. Sorry for the long voice text and half the time is preparing the area so I can get to it Bush's etc. And maybe nice little chair and a shade. It's hot in Florida. Anyway thank you so much. Not sure if I can do it in the time frame that you did it cuz you do it all the time. But thanks very very very detailed
Hi. Thank you so very much for the video. I have a SQUEELING PIG :). I did a (Atwood furnace blower) search and you were on top. I have a 2003 Airstream and was fussing about a full furnace replacement $$$. Now I think I'm going to replace a blower motor thanks to your video. Thank You!
You asked for suggestions on removing the larger squirrel cage- I loosened the Allen screw, supported the whole shebang on three blocks of wood with the motor down and the blower cage resting on the blocks, took a hammer and screwdriver and placed the blade of screwdriver on the end of the shaft, tapped a few times, and it slid right off the cage👍
The way that high temp sensor is buried and with the wires bypassing it. I think I would have tested or just replaced it to be absolutely sure I wouldn't have to tear it apart a second time. Great channel, Subscribed
I have watched countless videos of yours, extremely informative, thank you for your time. Just to add for beginners of repairs check for gas leaks with soap after reattaching a gas line.
Awesome video thanks just replaced mine today helped greatly. Ps. Wear gloves when trying to take exhaust fan blade off. Fins are sharp.thank you again 🍻
Great video. Thanks for all the helpful information on how to remove and replace all of that. Most informative and thorough video I've watched on furnace removal, and thanks for that bonus info too.
Putting direct current is the best way to check last year my blower went out in my car so I put direct current to it and it wouldn't work so I bought a new and bam good to go
Thank you so much for showing me how to install a new blower motor that’s exactly the problem that I’m having Now I feel I can replace it myself with confidence
Model 8520 - IV - DCLP MFG. ~1998 I only needed a new gas valve. The motor needed a bit of lubricant on the bearings. It is a sealed unit so cannot be disassembled because the cover is staked in place. The sail switch, motor, burner, and igniter were all in excellent shape. As a E/M Designer, by trade, I'd like to have a 5 minute conversation with the guy who designed this thing. Got his degree from a Sears Roebuck catalogue. Literally took hours to disassemble, repair, and reassemble mainly due to the poor engineering. Functionally great but lacking in repair-ability. WORD TO THE WISE: Before you start, make sure all of your tools are magnetized or suffer the frustration of trying to get the screws back into their nearly inaccessible holes. Also, get a set of line wrenches/flare nut wrenches. before you start. Got a set at Harbor Freight which covers ten sizes. 1. The screws holding on the squirrel cage/motor housing cover have no clearance for a socket. Thin wall recommended. 2. Besides the clamping scheme, the motor was held in with a retainer that was impossible to replace once removed. I guess the factory has a tool to hold it in place during assembly that is not afforded to the rest of us. Luckily, I was able to remove the squirrel cage to access the motor and discover what was holding it in place. Threw that retainer in the trash. 3. In addition, my furnace has a ring that goes over the intake that has to be balanced in place on the fixed half of the housing while the removable portion is Jengaed into place and the juggling act with the screws can be performed. 4. The fittings for the gas and burner orifice were assembled with Grey Goose joint compound which required a torch to disassemble. I reassembled both with yellow Teflon tape. Having been in engineering since the late 60's I know that Teflon tape existed long before this furnace's late 90's assembly date.
I am totally amazed Question how many years have you been doing this and what inspired you to do this. I am 71 years old and would love to be your helper

Thanks for the video. I wish my Burner came out that easy on my rear furnace. I had to fight mine. Now I'm going to check my front furnace, I'm hoping just the ignitor just moved out of place which is what happened on the rear one.
So mine didn't have a clamp holding the small fan on, it had an Alan. Took that out and have been wiggling the crap out of it with not luck. Used PB blaster, heat gun, hitting it aggressively and nothing budges. I tried grinding down the metal post thinking it's the rust but I can only grind so much. Thinking of somehow just cutting the post off but not sure if that is a good idea.
Where do I get the motor for this particular unit at the best price? Also I was told from a local source that this particular furnace is no longer made and thus I cannot get some of the parts for it?
Great observation. We always do a leak test whenever we access the gas side. Darren doesn't record every aspect of the process when he's doing these videos and sometimes we edit out parts in a video to make it a better production. On this location there was a dog that was barking in the background. That may have been one of the reasons we cut that part out. Thanks for watching and thanks for the Discerning Eye. Good job.
Man I absolutely love your videos and have watched a bunch and this is the first one I have had a question on. If someone bypassed the high limit switch then given where it’s at why didn’t you go ahead and replace it instead of taking a chance on having to pull it all back apart?
It's possible I missed it, and I hope I did, but did you do a drop test on this LP system after breaking the LP connection? I watched the reassembly again and you didn't show it and /or mention it. To anyone that is going to follow this please use soap water on the LP connection at the very least to check for leaks.
Great informative helpful vid. TY. Now can you tell me why my Furnace wont shut off? I have to unplug one of the relays or remove the plug on the back of the furnace inside the cabinet. If I disconnect the pos/neg from behind thermostat or remove the fuse it still stays on!
Great video, I enjoyed your detail and the fact you didn't edit, we were able to see some of the challenges you had. Do you have a video that covers when the furnace is blowing black smoke and smells like gas on the inside of the coach?
A good way to get those wheels off would be to get a collet, you might be able to use one for residential power wire, and then some low level heat, have the collet ready and heat the shaft area, not anywhere else, then put the collet on and pull, another less successful way is to use a soldering iron with a high wattage to heat the metal motor shaft itself, but that’s more risky, basically you want to soften the plastic enough that it moves and isn’t as brittle but not enough for anything to warp, you could also get some flat tools behind it through the slots to help if you have an assistant, but that’s more risk than the reduced load on the rest of the wheel is. another method would be a penetration oil on the shaft and gently press it on more before you go to pull it off, that would allow it to be freed up on the shaft before you apply force in ways you can’t easily do so, but I haven’t had any luck with that method.

Great video i am about to tackle this job for my father and wouldn't have attempted it without watching this first.Very detailed thanks you for posting.
That was very useful. I was able to change out the blower motor on my furnace in my 1998 companion kit thanks to this video
My 1998 companion kit fith wheel camper has a Atwood Mobile Products 8525 - iii furnace in it. I live in my camper and here in central Wyoming it gets very cold during the winter so having my furnace working is extremely important and your video seriously helped me get it back up and running like new
@@mlane1986 mines acting up now and it's starting to get chilly here in washington so this video really did me a favor!
I also installed a 8kw diesel heater as a backup to the furnace. I got one of the cheap Chinese diesel heaters and I think all in it cost me $150 but it works really well and it wasn't that hard to instal.
Thanks. I have to tackle that task today and this video gives me the confidence to do it right!😅
January in maine and my motor just did a week of noise and died 2hours ago im confident i can fix it now thank you
Excellent. My furnace sounds just like this one at the beginning!! Gonna tackle this today!
Thank you so much! I have this exact furnace squealing like a pig. Now I can fix it! You are amazing. Thank you so much!
great video everything i needed know - thanks
After watching video, I replaced motor and ignitor on my 8535, it works great! thanks for the great video...

Fins are sharp.thank you again 🍻
thank you for all the information. this video helped a LOT more than any other I have seen
Great video. Thanks for all the helpful information on how to remove and replace all of that. Most informative and thorough video I've watched on furnace removal, and thanks for that bonus info too.
Thank you very much for the videos. I successfully fixed mine and couldn't have done it without watching your video's. Very very appreciated
Great fix - now I know where all the parts go - thanks for the lesson -
I like the trick with the 12V battery pack used to turn the furnace on and test it. Very slick.
Putting direct current is the best way to check last year my blower went out in my car so I put direct current to it and it wouldn't work so I bought a new and bam good to go
Absolutely love the video! Sooper helpful! Thanks
Thank you so much for showing me how to install a new blower motor that’s exactly the problem that I’m having Now I feel I can replace it myself with confidence
I am cheering for ya'.
Terrific video! What type of connectors are those blue ones that leave you an opening for your jumper leads?
Model 8520 - IV - DCLP MFG. ~1998
I only needed a new gas valve.
Thanks Darren, very detailed instructions . Thanks again
Thank You for the education :) So much better than spending the time to figure it out myself
Thank you so much, very helpful! Will need to wait till tomorrow to get back at it, it's too dark to finish (NH) I appreciate your help!
I am totally amazed
Question how many years have you been doing this and what inspired you to do this.
I am 71 years old and would love to be your helper
Excellent video, I'm doing mine this weekend.
Great video. Thank you so much, I'll need to replace my motor soon, this is very helpful.
Thank you for this video. Your Information has helped me many ways. Now I can keep warm this winter. Hi from across the water on Whidbey island.

Another great learning! Thank you so much! You really have a gift of explaining these repairs! Keep up the good work?
Thank you for your video is very informative especially the information about the high limit
Absolutely fantastic video and expert instructions from Daren. WOW knowledge is a powerful tool and I thank you.
Great video. All stuff no fluff.
Thanks Darren. Is exactly my problem. After watching, I know it's a repair I can do.
You're the reason I put these videos out there. Hope you can avoid the expensive repair bills. Happy Camping!
How the heck does anyone give this a thumbs down? I took the wing nut off my exhaust pipe but never could get it out. I have an 8900 model.
Thanks for the video.
I wish my Burner came out that easy on my rear furnace. I had to fight mine.
Now I'm going to check my front furnace, I'm hoping just the ignitor just moved out of place which is what happened on the rear one.
Wow! Perfectly done! I'm diving in!Thx a ton
Excellent job, as always. This is way to involved for me. I'll be contacting you for a bid.
Cheers.
Where do I get the motor for this particular unit at the best price? Also I was told from a local source that this particular furnace is no longer made and thus I cannot get some of the parts for it?
Very helpful now I can replace my old motor in my furnace thanks
Great! Have same furnace ... BUT ..... no leak test of the gas fitting you took apart and hooked up again after your repair?
Excellent video, thanks so much. Loved all the detailed explanations. 👍👍👍
Beautiful tutorial.
Excellent video as always, maybe I'd tackle something like this but at least I have some knowledge about what is in my RV furnace.
