I take, as my theme, the many antics of the domestic cat...
Played here by "Leroy Anderson & His Pops Concerts Orchestra-Promonade"
Listening to Anderson's "light" music, I began to realize how much skill, talent, thought, and work went into making these lovely pieces that imitate cats, clocks, sleigh rides, or incorporate things like typewriters. That is a lot of skill and outside-the-box thinking. Frivolity is indeed serious business.

I first heard this when I was playing my father's classical music records when I was 6 or 7. I couldn't remember the composer or title, but just searched for "the kitten waltz", and apparently it was close enough. Thanks for uploading this. It brings back memories.

This was on Captain Kangaroo all the time, along with the other Leroy Anderson classics: typewriter, Fiddle-Faddle, sandpaper ballet, etc.
They usually had puppet figures cut out of construction paper and moved along manually on a screen as a "visual" to these things.Two paper cats meowing, etc.
We both love Leroy Anderson. As Nikki is 37 years younger than me, I introduced her to his music. Fabulous!

小学校低学年の音楽の授業で鑑賞タイムみたいなのがあって、なんの説明もなく流れた曲から情景を想像するのですが、その中でこの一曲だけよく覚えています。みんなが次々手をあげて口々に色んなことを言って、正解とかないから楽しそうに聞いてた音楽の先生。調子付く僕と、眠そうに鼻をほじっていたあの子と、授業後も無意識にこの曲を口ずさんでいたあの子。種明かしを聞いてからも猫の街に関する妄想が止まらなくて、（最後の犬勢力の進入も想像を掻き立てた）ちょうどその後が給食で、その後掃除の時間に僕はワルツのリズムでホウキを掃いていました。
あれから20年近く・・・。
昔住んでいた街に戻ってきて、なぜか突然ワルツが聴きたくなって色々調べていたら、ある日突然出会ったのが、なんとこの曲。
改めて聴くとなんて可愛らしい曲だろう。優しい気持ちに包まれて、今はもうあのバイタリティに溢れた愛らしい文化圏に戻れないのかと思うとちょっぴり寂しくなったのですが・・・・・それは違いました。音楽を聞いている間、僕はあの謎めいた猫の街を旅する小学生でした。音楽がある以上、僕は何度でもタイムスリップすることができるのです。
僕はなんて素晴らしい体験をしたのだろう。

I REMEMBER IN THE 1960S THERE WAS A LOCAL TV SHOW FROM LANSING MI CALLED THE COPPER KETTLE, THIS WAS THE THEME SONG.

Let me tell you,I am one of the greatest cat lovers one can imagine.I swear it!..And I love cats MORE than human and other animals,if I may say so!!!!!
And also appreciative with regard to the music,Leroy Anderson composed for this.And..in the early post-war years,we needed this kind of music,it had a curing effect on all of us at that time..
But...on the whole...I'm a great lover of Anderson's music,cos I was brought up with his music in the early 50s.And...as you know...lots of good old Light Orchestra Tunes went in oblivion,but NOT Anderson's creations,today....during Xmas time you still can hear his Sleigh Ride.
Another tune,being part of my memory,was a waltz with bells,and yes......after searching....how bloody else....by Anderson again,his "Song of the Bells".And not only his Typewriter,but even more his Sandpaper Ballet.First tune I learnt was The Syncopated Clock,every morning before going to school,I heard this tune on the radio..Wonderful times,shouldn't we be clamouring for coming back all this?
I cannot live on without his music,just HE told us,what music really was(and still is and willl be FOR EVER!!!)
Anderson was a genius and his music is immortal and will withstand all of today's commercial cramped attempts in order to distract us from the real thing!!!!!

I think cats are so graceful, so elegant when they dance. I've also seen a few cats who could "fly through the air with the greatest of ease",... 'cept for the crash at the end of their flight.

In the early '50s, several mothers in my school enrolled their "talented" daughters in a ballet class. My Mom was one of those mothers. For our first recital we ware fancy tutus and danced to "The Waltzing Cat". We were in three rows. Your's truely was in the back row at the far end. (Does that say what kind if talent I didn't have?) I found the photo a family friend took and it appears that almost al the girls have passed - after all, we would be in our 70's. My parents are no longer with us as is my only sibling - an older sister. There is one whom I lost contact with. I will be sending a Facebook private message, if I can find her name. I would love to reminise a bit.

I remember hearing this when I was a TINY kid-- maybe 2 years old. I thought it was beautiful -- I had no idea then what it was or what it meant

I first heard Leroy Anderson on Captain Kangaroo, though of course I didn't know what it was. I remember this piece, and, the typewriter, syncopated clock, Fiddle Faddle, and several others, with very simple visuals, figures cut out of construction paper. Simpler times.
He was a master of light orchestral music, sometimes amusing, sometimes serious and sometimes poetic. To be able to conjure up in just a few minutes the emotional appeal his music has, is phenomenal.... Thanks for your visit. Nigel

Tiger Hackistan (Kung Fu Panda) & Amelia Smollet (Treasure Planet) are doing thier act of The Waltzing cats.
This is his original recording (from "Leroy Anderson Conducts His Own Compositions" [Volume 1]). In a later recording, he added the sounds of whistles at 1:29, and a dog bark and cat hiss at 2:35.

Не навещают нас. Это запрещено. Только по видеосвязи мы общаемся. Наш глава правительства Биби Натанияху рьяно взялся за наведением порядка в стране. Завтра вечером мы, евреи, празднуем праздник Песах. Так наше правительство на этот праздник объявило строжайший карантин. Нельзя посещать пожилых родителей из за их хронических болезней. И так далее. А праздник Песах- это очень семейный праздник. Вся семья собирается вокруг стола. А в этот году полный запрет сидеть вокруг стола всем вместе. Месяц тому назад мы праздновали праздник Пурим. Многие люди ходили в синагоги, ходили на фестивали в карнавальных костюмах и многие заразились. Мы с мужем стараемся не выходить на улицу. А если и выходим, то только за продуктами в масках и одноразовых перчатках. В нашей маленькой стране уже больше девяти тысяч больных. ИВы, Маргошенька, берегите себя.
