It really depends how hard you go on practicing. I'd say it took me ten years to get decent. But you can definitely do it quicker than that.

It would mostly work. I think the only bit that wouldn't is the "Quiet when I'm coming..." You'd need to move the notes on the 4th string to the 1st string two frets lower.
