Been using Spartan Forge on and off over the last few years. See you updates frequently is awesome to see and excited to see what is coming in the future! Great Video
Thanks for the video, very detailed and will most likely prompt me to get the paid version. I'm an old guy @55, but a real stable genius. I thought you did a great job in a short video outlining the features of the app and the desktop version. Great work!
Got a ? On Comparing to HuntStand and basemap. In HuntStand, you can have a specific page or screen just for one hunt area, it will have all your pins, tracks, ect. If you go to another spot, you can have another with just that info. On Basemap, all of your pins, tracks, ect. Are all on the same overall map. How does spartan forge handle your different hunt areas? Thanks Garrett
Hi Marc, on Spartan Forge you have everything visible at once across the country unless you choose to hide anything. So it's more similar to Basecamp in that regard. However, with the Blue Force Tracker feature, you can set up individual hunt areas, with the intent to automatically share the pins in the boundary with others.
I wish the tracker was more customizable. Some times i mark a trail from the truck. Some times i am mapping a deer trail. Sometimes i just want to see how far i walk in a day. I like being able to change the color and "bread crumb" dotted dashes etc. Any discussions about adding this in the future?
To answer your question... yes. That is on the development list, along with being able to adjust line/polygon appearance. I don't have a timetable for when it will be implemented though.
I recently got into Spartan Forge vs the other company I was using. I have the Water overlay selected, but it only shows me larger bodies (Lakes, ponds) but it doesn't show any of the creeks feeding thru mountains into these. Any clue what I might be missing that will make these show up?
For the most part, the source data that makes up the water overlay would be similar to what would show up on the topo layer. I just checked some of the drainage that I've hunted in Colorado that had drainage creeks with hardly any running water in them some years that showed up, but you do need to be zoomed in enough for them to display. If I zoom out far enough they hide.
Hi. Can this be used just like a GPS? I’m trying to find out if I can click on a Waypoint and if the app will guide me right to it. If so could you please explain? Ty
Yes, you can always see your current location as a blue dot and even track and create breadcrumb trails like a handheld GPS. You can also tap a waypoint and click "Go To Pin" and it'll show the distance and draw a dotted line straight to the pin. Though in reality it might not always make sense to walk straight due to the terrain or cover. So when navigating to a pin I usually look at the terrain on the map and pre-plan a route that way.
I am currently using HuntStand and want to import my pins and other data to Spartan Forge. I’m unable to create an export file in HuntStand. Is there a way to create the file and if not how else can I move the HS data?
When using the app during scouting and dropping pins, I could not find icons for buck rubs nor non-community scrapes. Will additional icons be added to allow more detailed pins. How do I add lines to show trails, deer and otherwise?
For the pins, those are all in the full list. If you aren't seeing the non-community or buck rub icons, they might just not be in your "Recent" list. You can find them under: Animals > Deer. Then after you've used them, they'll show up under the Recent list as well. For the lines, right now the only option is using the measurement tool and saving the line you create. You can add notes to designate if it's a deer trail, access trail, etc. But they're also working on additional options to allow for lines and polygons where you can change the color and type, like dotted or dashed.
@@DIYSportsman Thanks for the quick reply! I do enjoy your RUclips channel.. hmm, nope, I don’t have them in the full list for Deer..17 icons, three happen to be camera icons, but no “buck rub” nor simply “scrape”. Could it be because I’m using the free version?
I just got the most expensive plan and don’t have access to any of the good stuff. It keeps telling me to upgrade , but there’s nothing more to upgrade to?
If you haven't already, try force closing and reopening the app. That might refresh everything to working. If not you'll want to submit a support ticket and they can fix it.
It's been updated so that you don't need the gear anymore. If you tap on "maps" you can not only access the customization but also set up 3 different presets that you can swipe between.
I need more user friendly shapes. I hunt in very tight areas and I need to mark off my 500ft discharge distances from dwellings before I head into the woods. This is the one feature that SF lacks and keeps me on Basemap T_T
Appreciate the feedback. I chatted with one of the engineers, and radius drawing along with other track and line/polygon editing features are on the development list but I don't know the time table yet.
Just got a subscription. Was just looking around on my phone and noticed it doesn't mark Managed Forest law(MFL) when looking for public lands. That could be just a Wisconsin thing.
They're working on that currently. The challenge with the MFL type land is that even though WI marks their approximate location with a pin on their website, usually only parts of a parcel are in the program, and the actual boundaries are hand draws maps uploaded as PDFs. So it's a big effort getting it all in. Going through that process, I've actually seen where other apps have the MFL/VPA boundaries that don't match the state's files, so it's always good to double check the state's website on those to be certain.
@DIYSportsman Thanks for the quick reply. I really like the idea of all the functionality of the app but without MFL listed that's a tough sell for here in North Central WI. I'll probably try the 14 days starting next week and maybe use it in conjunction with the other app until SF gets this information into the app.
Hopefully videos like this help 👍 The best way to learn is by doing, but there are usually always questions or sticking points when picking up something new. A know a few guys who are more old school who may just utilize mapping apps for studying the landscape or aerial photos but then still use map/compass/notebook when in the field.
Yikes many folks learn by doing. You can talk for weeks on the finer points of driving. I have to put it in gear. The first 1:45 went by in like 10 seconds. There are only a few words in that time which I could understand. Sorry you’re not an instructor at least about this cousin of OnX
Well, it is tough to digest everything in a concise 20 minute video. Using the app is the best way to learn, but I usually see that people may still have a question on using a certain feature, hopefully they'd just be able to jump onto a video like this, jump right to the time stamp talking about the feature in question, and be able to see it done in more detail.
@@DIYSportsman thanks. I tried a free trial but that level didn’t have much and if you wanted wheels steering brakes lights air etc those are way more than I could afford

Good timing. My On-X sub just ended and I have been debating on trying Spartan Forge.
By far my favorite hunting app!
Offline Maps. How do you see your way points ? Seems kinda hare to Get larger area to string together.

Not ready to give up my on x yet running both apps currently , is there a way to export ally waypoints from on x?

Does the team member location feature work when offline too?
In addition, i don't see anywhere on mobile app or desktop for user feedback or support. I definitely have some ui and gui input to give you. Thanks.
Just checked in and they're working on adding feedback links directly (so you don't have to go to the Contact form on the website).

What apps are guys using to keep track of their out of state points?
I just use a spreadsheet on Google Drive for that personally. Can access with my laptop or phone and just update whenever I buy a new point.
Nice!
Just tried to pick a plan and add your DIY promo code. Won't accept it. Any thoughts?
Did you try it on the computer or on mobile? You may need to input it on the computer. If that isn't the issue, I will look into it.
Correct, won't do it on mobile app, but does it if I login on desktop. Might want to point that out for folks or add to the app side. Thanks!
Code expired... Turn it back on!
Is BFT only for paid accounts or can I invite unpaid members to join a team?
Yes, its an expensive feature that we need a customer base that pays to support.
Can you invite free tier members to a BFT? and if so, what limitations are there for them? I'm a paid member
Paid only, sorry, its an expensive feature that we need a customer base that pays to support.
I have huntstand and as a non-milennial I just can't figure it out.
