You might argue that Google is still the elephant in the room, it is the biggest search engine. But we also know about Google's updates… even if you are doing everything right, there is a chance that your site can get hit by an algorithm update and lose most of the traffic overnight. In addition to that, Google started showing AI-generated summarized responses to search engine queries in the United States. These AI summaries are created by Google's Gemini AI model and they appear at the top of search results, above the traditional link-based results.
Do I need to give you any more reasons to watch this video from start to finish because I'll show you the best alternative traffic sources? No? I thought so :)
Pinterest
So the first one we'll talk about is Pinterest. Why? Because it was the biggest traffic source for me! At the time when I started my blog I used to get over 90% of traffic from Pinterest. Over the years, my Google traffic has grown, but even these days I am still getting about 60% of traffic from Pinterest.
Pinterest is based mostly on images and text, which is great because you don’t need to put yourself in front of a camera like you might need to do on RUclips or Instagram.
Think of Pinterest as a massive search engine, just like Google. For exmplae, if you hop onto Pinterest and search for "small business setup" you might stumble upon a pin from Create Hive blog.
When you click on it, you're taken to this article. Inside this post, she will show you her RUclips videos, she will also have a huge image below the post inviting you to her Free Workshop. We can check her website menu and we'll quickly get an idea of how she is monetizing her traffic from Pinterest - she has a $17 Course, and then she also has a high-ticket program worth $2000.

Can you only make money blogging by showing others how to make money blogging in 2024? Every blogger seems to have some sort of course on how to start and make money with blogging.
Selling courses is a nice extra income but a ton of websites that do not sell courses on how to become a blogger make a ton of money with display ads from Mediavine and Adthrive + affiliate links. People used to ask the same question you just asked in 2017 when I was starting my blog.

Hi Anastasia thank you for the advice THANK THANK it worked please may I ask you another question or query when I put my logo in the profile in that circle of Pinterest business account the logo do not fit the circle properly how can I enlarge the LOGO to fit in the diameter of Pinterest profile circle I just downloaded Canva today the free version so if you can direct me to a video that could answer my query to enlarge the logo itself to fit in the diameter of Pinterest coordinates Ps thank you for your advice earlier on
If the logo is super small then increasing the size will make it pixelated. You could use canvas AI tools on the paid plan to increase the image without compromizing quality
Or just google any AI image enhancer.
Hi Anastasia. I opened a Pinterest business account three months ago and still haven't posted pins or boards. I recently claimed my website and want to start publishing daily in the next week. So, does "three months off" affect my account growth or traffic?
doesn't affect anything, I recommend to first save repins from others to new boards to help pinterest understand what your boards are about

Hi Anastasia,my blog lost over 90% of its traffic during the last google update. Can the same blog pick up if I create a Pinterest business account and start over there or I have to abandon it a atart a new one?
Sorry to hear about your site! Your Google penalty doesn't affect Pinterest traffic in any way if that's your question. However I just don't know your niche so not sure if Pinterest will drive you traffic. Things that do great on Pinterest are food, home decor, fashion, lifestyle and some others. Tech, reviews of specific products that people usually search for on Google don't usually get as much traffic on Pinterest.
