Would you recommend doing that, but in the PortaPro band? I have the Pros, but one side is starting to fail (after 4 years) so I thought of the KSC75s for both a 2nd life and for the titanium coating.
@@xavierpanohaya2647 yes, I have seen many people do this! You supposedly get the best of both worlds, increased clarity over the porta pro drivers because of the titanium coating and a bit more bass than ksc75 because of increased clamp pressure.
The p21s don’t seem to bring anything to the table except a proper brand headband for the ksc75 fans. In my experience, there are no better retro headphones than the porta-pro family; even when it comes to Bluetooth. They are comfortable with their user friendly adjustments and padding, have unbiased sound quality, and are extremely portable and durable. A testament to their relevance is that they are still around after initial release in 1984.Their comfort and pad lifespan can be improved with yaxi pads, while more freedom of movement and wire life can be improved with a clip on Bluetooth adapter and magnetic silicon clips. It is better to have them wired with a receiver for the lifetime limited warranty of wired koss headphones, and receivers are cheap to replace later down the road.
@@scoobasteve290 Thanks a lot, love these headphones so much but the forks/headband aren't flexible enough to fit over my head without breaking after a few months :)
Yeah that's what I was thinking but: 1. I wasn't around in the 70's nor have access to gear from then so idk 2. The porta pros are also a thing and those sound FAR better haha
Nice comparison. Does the P21 have the same “ball” fitting for attaching the drivers as the other two? As someone else here said Yaxi pads on KSC75 drivers on the P21 headband could be a beautiful thing.
Have you tried kph30i's? (With and without grado gs1000 pads)... Would be interesting to hear your thoughts on how you think they compare with this collection. (Spoiler - I love them)
@@chuckolatte600 just watched it. Thanks. Interesting you chose the porta pros over the kph30i's due to comfort even though you preferred the kph30i sound. Might be worth you trying the new clear kph30i's. Somehow the clear plastic seems less clampy than the coloured ones. A question for you about the p21. I love the look of the headband. But probably wouldn't enjoy the sound based on your review ( and others). Do you think it would be easy to replace the drivers with KSC75 drivers?
I am curious how the Yaxi Pads change the sound signature of the Koss Porta Pro. There are many opinions on the Internet, but I am afraid that these are ordered, unfair opinions. I am waiting for your Koss Porta Pro and Yaxi Pads review.
But you forgot the best openback Koss headphone: the KTXPRO1, not to mention the pretty good, UR40s, and the Sportapros, which are not like the portapros.
I just recieved my p/21's today, and they sounded fine AT FIRST(I'm not an audiophile, so as long as a pair of headphones dont sound weird to me, I'll use them). However, 30 minutes into using them, the left earphone started popping everytime there was a section of music with bass. I'm wondering if I can put the portapro earpieces onto the p/21 headband, so I won't suffer a total loss. Btw, will the p/21 foam pads fit on the portapros? If not, where can I buy some orange pads for them?
hey do you think 6xx sounds more muffled compared to 600 and how does 560s compare to 6xx and 600 in terms of clarity? when I had 6xx I found them to sound muffled or "veiled" overall not just treble compared to elex and also found that they get congested due to small stage + slow speed possibly?
Yep. The 6xx is a great HP but they just don't compare to the 600 due to that veiled effect. The 560s sound very clean and smooth, but the HD6xx line is just a little step above it in detail and clarity.
they're open-back so others will be able to hear if you're listening to them around the max volume you'd normally listen to music with. Though they do leak less than the other Koss HPs (probably due to the less forward highs).
I put the P/21 drivers on KSC75 clips and actually really like them now. Cleans up a lot of the problems I had with them on the regular headband.
Would like to see you revisit the KPH30i Clear version with perhaps the "Ultra" G cushion mod.
Funny. I was actually gonna order a pair to bring it in for the part 2!
I would swap the ksc75 drivers on the retrospekt headband with taxi pads to reach peak koss.
Same, this would be the winner, sound on this retro is kinda garbage, not even close to kph30i or even ksc75
;)

If you got the money for it, this is the perfect headband for the KSC75

The metal headband on the P21 work with the Kph30i. This is huge.
My third set of kph30i headbad snapped from my big head, how do I use the metal headband?

Fractionally less mid-bass, but a big improvement in comfort.
less bass quantity, mids and treble improved.
Throw out the drivers from P21, and throw the KSC75 on that headband. Then you have beuatiful Porta Pros and KSC75 with a headband.
