Attacking The Streets Of Long Beach In A Civic Type R...

- We went to the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach this past weekend to support friends and see some racing. What makes this racing event so unique is that it takes place literally on the streets of Long Beach, California. Originally I had planned to go so that I could document Amir Bentatou's RS Future K-series turbo NSX. A few friends were competing for Global Time Attack's portion of the event for the first time but he unfortunately ran into some engine issues the day prior. With tickets and time already set aside to go to Long Beach, I went and sought out a perfect candidate to be our substitute; Jose Mejia's Art of Attack Honda Civic Type R. I had always wanted to do some in-car footage of Jose's FK8 on the track but it just never happened-Until now.
A 450-horsepower turbocharged Civic with an aggressive driver on a street course in Long Beach, what could go wrong??...

Makes miss the San Jose GP, which stopped 15 or so years ago. At the time, I was working at Adobe Systems, which was front row viewing from the office windows. Awesome experience.
👍❤️🏁❤️👍
Very happy with the Type-R content. Great driving!
You are killing it Joey, thanks for the always awesome content. ❤️
PER USUAL🔥 coverage and go-pro placements top tier
Doing the sign of the cross on his chest before made it so much more epic. From my Forza experience I know I’d go into the wall after the runoff at turn 1.
I’m enjoying the videos joey, always top tier, keep up the good work man 👍
Epic content as always but will someone please get this man a Hans.
Getting rear ended sucks but thats track driving, adds to the raw-ness of the car when it has rubs and scratches from real driving.
But this is Time Attack. There should be no contact between the cars.
@@JoeBlo2 eh other guy was a little faster and they both probably wanted to stay competitive and not slow down to let him pass, its all good fun makes it more thrilling and i find my lap times go up when im battling :)
Yo content is crazy definitely an evolutionary step up thank you
Long beach gp should be a course in the next gran Turismo
ABSOLUTELY
It’s like GT👀🤙🏽🙏❤️
The Power of Dreams
Great video, as always. Was the rear ender at the 5:37 mark? I feel like I heard the crunch. That FK8 cooks pretty good.
No it wasn't. We actually have the crash footage but elected not to use it. It didn't seem necessary to point out the person who was involved.
@@THECHRONICLES Thanks for the confirmation. A classy move keeping it on the DL.
Hello, these cars suffer from circuit temperatures, what solutions do you have for this overheating?
Quick question on my 96 civic, it's not going to be a race car, just a cruiser, should I pull out everything from behind the front seats? Its 4 door ek thank you
glad to see jackie win the street class, would've made me feel bad going from an fk8 to a90 if the fk8 ended up on top
I can watch this all day❤️
Wonder if Jose and Jackie had some one-upmanship going on. The underdog Type R vs Supra.
They'll never tell lol...
Can't tell if that's an fk8 or a jet
that GC is wild!
joey do you know if there is any reasons why honda went for the center exit exhaust? or just for looks?
Probably just for looks I assume.
Less bends maybe?
Type r Jose wooo
damn, reminds me a lot of the seattle track in gt4
dope
wow who rear ended him and how did that happen? is the other party going to cover it?
Since it was on track then its all up to the person who hit him. Big IF they want to pay for damages, usually end up talking in person about it. Nothing you can do insurance wise unless you pay for track insurance.
It happens on the track, it's no big deal. Everyone talked about it after and things are fine.
Gran Turismo POV
NFS heat in the day time basically
I only wish they had the FK8 Type R's in Heat
Y is this video keep popping up in my recommendation 🤦♂️.
“..white dudes blowing whistles at you..” weird observation, bro.
42psi hot... No wonder it felt shit under braking.
Yeah track/pavement was crazy hot so tire pressure just kept rising
@@THECHRONICLES bit funny to check the pressures and not bleed them down to a suitable range. Pyrometer and some simple math will take out the guessing when setting cold pressures on new surface.
There was only one session per day and the short pit times didn’t allow for much alterations other than collecting data
@@MonstersGB what was your PB that day chief?
@@dlombana161 was out at Willow for a test on our C7R. But hey, I betI couldn’t set the pressures on a street car, you’re right.
It's such a tragic shame that they made this car into another 4 door family sedan. And it looks heavy as hell. In spite of the performance mods it don't look as fast. Also the driver is probably an amateur; he drives it slow because he's scared not even going fast. Too bad the new Integra became another 4 door family sedan. Honda/Acura cars sucks now as they became another brand of family sedans producing cars with the "Type R" sticker in name. At least Toyota is doing it right by bringing back a 2 door Supra BMW mutt.
