They both are amazing gymnasts, and while I prefer Komovas's style, Gabby still performed better at this event. It's always unfortunate to see a gymnast with such excellent potential in all events never win all-around gold at the Olympics or Worlds, but consistency and mental strength are such essential factors. As you can see on the vault, Komova sometimes takes extra steps and doesn't seem to "fight" to get things back on track once they go off course. But please be nice to her; she was only 17, after all. Gabby's extremely narrow lead over Viktoria was what made this competition more exciting than others. Viktoria had a slight edge over Gabby in presentation on bars and floor, and Gabby was technically cleaner on vault and beam. I think the deciding factor for Gabby's victory was the landing on vault. Neither of them landed perfectly on this event, but Viktoria hopped off the mat and Gabby didn't.

I’d think that the squatting deduction only applies if the squat is excessive like around 90 degrees, but I’m not a judge so🤷🏻‍♂️ For skills like that, gymnasts have to bend their knees a bit to absorb the landing, so that shouldn’t be something considered “wrong”. Victoria Komova is an amazing gymnast and won the Silver, but Gabby deserved the Gold. The judges were very nice to Komova on that horrible vault. Had that been Biles or Gabby stepping off the whole runway, they would've scored them so low that they would've been damn near out of the competition. Komova recovered but Gabby was just too steady. She was robbed time & again of points she should have earned, but were taken to make it so she could NEVER move ahead. Because we can't have Dawes move ahead of any of the popular White gymnasts. It got to the point where I could guess her score BEFORE she even performed!!! * I STOPPED watching gymnastics for many years after Dawes retired. The judges just were NEVER going to give her, her due. Her legacy should have been much greater than it was, but due to RACISM (and these so-called gymnastic professional judges had no problem expressing their racist thoughts about Dawes "back in the day"), she was robbed of what she SHOULD have had. From what we could tell, it looks like Simone's AA program from 2016 would still be tops today among other competing gymnasts; AMAZING! As for this Gabby and Viktoria scoring comparison and continued debate, I think people will see what they want to see and NOT SEE what they don't, hence I have to accept what the judges decided then. It makes no sense to compare under this code because EVERY coach prepares their gymnast for the COP that exists at the time. Neither Gabby nor Vika would get those beam execution scores with this code...if Simone's perfect routine at 2019 Worlds EF only got 8.666, I could see Vika getting an 8.700 if she hit a perfect routine, but with the checks she had 8.3 is more likely. As for Gabby her ring leap could be deducted even more heavily so maybe 8.1.

Interesting video. Komova's floor d score should be 5.4 instead of 5.5 because you mistook her regular split leap 1/1 (C) for a switch split leap 1/1 (D). There are some places for both gymnasts where you should have taken deductions but didn't, while others you over deducted, but overall the e scores mostly ended up making sense. VT and UB e scores look spot on based on current code. Both beam and floor e scores would likely be even lower tho cause 8.6-8.7 are simply not happening lol. Tho I'm guessing you just didn't take artistry deductions since they didn't exist yet, but if they did e scores would further lower to like 8.2-8.4.
I don't think the video is biased cause e scores are fairly much lower than they were in London quad and your differences ended up being overall similar. The d score part besides your mistake is very interesting since that's more objective.
    2012 quad:
    Gabby d scores- 6.5+6.6+6.5+6.1=25.7
    Vika d scores- 6.5+7.0+6.4+6.0=25.9
    Gabby e scores- 9.466+9.133+9.0+8.933=36.532
    Vika e scores- 9.066+8.966+9.041+9.1=36.173
    2021 quad:
Gabby d scores- 5.8+5.9+5.5+5.6=22.8 or 23 if you credit switch ring
    Vika d scores- 5.8+6.4+5.7+5.4=23.3
    Your Gabby e scores- 9.2+8.6+8.6+8.3=34.7
    Your Vika e scores- 8.5+8.5+8.7+8.6=34.3
2021 d scores with 2012 e scores has: Vika 59.473 beats Gabby 59.332. If you credit the switch ring Gabby wins with 59.532.
    2021 d scores with your 2021 e scores has:
Vika 57.6 beats Gabby 57.5. If you credit the switch ring Gabby wins 57.7.
Tbh there's no way Gabby's switch ring ever gets credit in 2021 code so basically either by your or London judge e scores Komova barely wins by 0.1.
It is interesting that Komova has a bigger d score advantage in 2021 quad since in London she only had 0.2 d score advantage while in 2021 she would have 0.3 d score advantage even if Gabby switch ring got credited and 0.5 d score advantage if it doesn't which is likely. And this is with Komova connections not even getting CV at all even if they were successful (tho lol even if they were eligible for CV they would never get credit cause they're so slow) plus sheep jump sadly being downgraded from D to C. Komova d scores really benefited from layout Jaeger being upgraded to F and Patterson dismount getting 0.3 CV.
So basically in 2012 quad Komova only has 0.2 d score advantage so it isn't enough to make up for vault error and she loses by 0.2, but in 2021 she would have 0.5 d score advantage and is barely able to win by 0.1.

On beam for form it gave Gabby a .3 deduction, but the same mistake from the Russian athlete only got a .1 deducation. That makes no sense to me.

I know this is an older video, but I'm *so* confused by some of these deductions. there are several times on beam you deduct 0.3 for gymnasts landing in a squat where there either was no squat (having *slightly* bent legs to absorb the landing is different than a deep squat that deserves a 0.3 deduction) or where the squat deserved a 0.1 deduction.
now, to be fair, I'm not an expert, and I'm not sure if you're using the deductions that were actually given to the gymnasts. I'm going to go take a brief look at a recording of the AA final just out of curiosity.
but I wonder if maybe it would be better to show the changes in COP just by showing how the DV changed and using the existing execution scores? again, I'm not an expert, so maybe changes were made to certain deductions, so if that's the case, feel free to let me know.

3:35 this wouldnt be counted as connectio for too arms swinging
4:52 form of the switch leap and flexed foot on piked
    5:16 bent knees
    5:49 flexed feet, low chest

You were very liberal with gabbys deductions and ultra conservative with Victoria. Your point would work best if you kept the execution scores and update your difficulty. As it stans now, your video is off on accuracy. No way was Victoria beam and floor that much better then gabby.

Some people are so desperate to rewrite history. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️. I love looking at old competition scores and comparing them to today’s COPs. What you can’t do (unless you are trying to grasp at straws) is make up your own deductions. The comparison from one COP era to another can only-y be done if you use the deductions that applied in the original era. Nice try though.

This is based on COP 5 years later from the actual time when the event took place..So yeah this evaluation is irrelevant as to who won the gold..komova has grace and difficulty but lacks mental toughness...at the end of the day it doesn't matter what level of difficulty you are capable of, but how well you perform when it matters the most...gabby performs well on that most important day, while komova on the other hand fails to performs her vault which happens to be the event that gabby has high diffculty..so yeah, gabby won fair and square...2 olympics had passed already so let it rest in the past as well...peace be with us all..

So I thought this was a fantastic video showing side by side comparison but I'm confused. Is the video saying that kamova should have won over Gabby? Komova did an unbelievable floor routine but for some reason it looked like she couldn't compensate by getting extra points. What am I missing here?
