I built one into a mountain so i figured, "the mountain will protect me, why not use wood?" turns out the dogs got into the chemshine and alcohol later on so they couldn't walk. Almost all of them had a 64-hour blackout. I couldn't just kill them because that would mean having an explosion on the inside of my colony. I released them to the wild, but the animals guy put the downed dogs right next to my base. This was bad for many reasons: 1)they had no food 2)they couldn't get food. Needless to say, they died and lit my warehouse on fire burning everything inside.

Hmmm brings me back to my first modded colony. Deliberately stayed poor and just have a humble farming community of 8 families. Then one day lightning hits, my folks desperately try to fight back the fire as almost all our crops start to burn, then a siege hits. Due to the fires, they manage to set up and launch incendiary rounds, whole town is ablaze now (This was the last time I kept wooden houses....). My dedicated marksman guy manages to pick off two of the low tier raiders, prompting their attack. With the few remaining resources I get them to build a defense in a desperate last stand, slowly but surely we kill off some of the heavily armed raiders. Three of them have power armor though, and our guns can't penetrate that, very dumb move to not get high calibre on CE. Slowly but certainly we fall one by one. Except for the marksman. The entire town burned down. All 5 babies in the infirmary died due to the smoke and collapsing roof. All the other 4 children I sent to hide in the freezer were brutally shot at close range once the raiders broke in. Just the marksman guy and two Alpacas lived. I made him return home after the raiders left, bury the dead, and after sending him with the remaining food, animals and a bedroll on a final caravan mission. I saved the game and moved on. Game does exactly what it's advertised to do. What a story that one was.
@@garr_inc I could do this but I lost the save file, and forgot his name. It just wouldn't be the same if I made a new one, his story has ended. Time to move on.
@@brodaviing6617 I feel you. I wanted to make a story if a colony I had prior to release of 1.0 for a contest, but eventually I got bogged down in details, the inspiration flew away, and I have moved on. Other stories took their place in the limelight. But I will never forget the Manus family.
One time, i rescued somebody who had collapsed named Toni, she had a go-juice addiction, and many injuries, i brought her back to my colony, and almost had that caravan starve because of Toni's injuries, and once they got back to the colony, all Toni did was just be a nuisance, constantly on the verge of snapping, so i just gave up and was about to euthanize her, then she got over the addiction. Toni is now one of my most important members of the colony, the best doctor and second best builder.
I once had a thriving colony, they were progressing fast. Then, one day, they were all wiped out. There was only one remaining. Gabby, she was only 16. she had to try to save all of her friends from bleeding out, but instead of guaranteeing the life of one, she tried to save them all, thus they all bled out. She got addicted to alcohol, probably trying to forget, all while this song was playing.
It do be like that, the founders always have a special place in our hearts, no matter how big and vast the base becomes. Cuz we just know that they are the ones who have been along us the longest, the ones who started it all, from wooden rifles to pulse charged munitions
- Happy wedding day! You earn this party, enjoy! - Does... does this mean that... ? - That's right! Nothing but kibble for you all for as long as the mood-boost is up!
When it starts raining as you're trying to combat a wildfire within your base started by a pirate raid, you lost 5 colonists with 4 still in critical condition, and now you need to rebuild... this song is perfect motivation.
Everytime I hear this, I smell the blood and gunpowder, feel the tears and raindrop flow down my eyes. And see the sun rises slowly from the horizon. It's time to move on.
When I had many of my colonists die, both people I enjoyed in my colony and people I modeled after friends and family die, this song played as we burried our dead, just me and a handful of other colonists burring our beloved, including my little brother, my father, and my mother. "Such a wonderful person. The universe gets darker every day."
"Moving on" It's called that for a reason. Infact, most songs are named in a way that roughly translates to *when* they're played. chaos bringer is for raids, example. Moving on is for when a colonist dies.
@ss Nah they have an order to them, songs like alpaca, tribal assembly, and traces play when your colony wealth is steadily growing and your colonists are healthy, whereas songs like mirage, barnstar and what gravity always play when your colonists are sick or your colony wealth has taken a considerable hit, the rest of them are fairly random though
I remember my first colony so well. Niklas the ranger and our hunter, Erisen the Scientist, and Lizard the chef. One day a bandit came out of nowhere armed with an smg. He ambushed roger as he only had a revolver. Niklas armed with a rifle arrived. Shot the bandit once in the chest which killed him instantly (combat extended mod). Alex was shot 4 times and bleeding out. This song playing while Alex was on the ground dying was a memorable experience and at that moment I knew I found a special game
I used to play Stardew Valley a lot. Now I find myself imagining if I had my its "sunny spring day, everything's goin my way" music playing in the background while my crops are being blighted, mechs dropping from the sky, and pirates literally beating down the doors
This song came on after I lost everyone I loved, I lost a cool Hyena dude, I lost my brother, I lost my dad, I lost my mother, I kinda quit after that.
Have a colonist randomly named Pickles. Siege happens, he gets shot in the brain, but lives with permanent brain damage. I now imagine him going around saying his name the same way Hodor does.
"Smith, Shelterkid is binging on alcohol. This happened because of: Alcohol addiction (withdrawal 99%)." - Actual notification I got. I hate you Smith.
me and the boys making decisions on our multiplayer game Alert: Travelers "Travelers from friendly faction are passing by" *Louder alert* Raid: Pirates "You know what, let's not distract the colonists and let the travelers fend the pirates if they're so friendly" *The other traveler gets shot in the head and dies, and the other gets into pain shock after giving enough pain for the other pirate to collapse* "Pirates are taking whoever they can" "ok boys we should actually go help i think"
This is still the sad theme I remember when my collony was attacked by a Swarm of Mecha, at the time I had a Neko Wife, I had my family like my IRL Dad, Brother and Mother there, I had befriended the Hyena that nobody liked aside from another collonist, a Lizard guy, and as Herbalists they seemed to get along very well. The swarm whiped out pretty much everyone I loved in that Collony, my Wife, my Brother, father, and mother, Hyena dude and his Lizard friend. I was just left alone with a Human Janitor, a Picky Lioness Cook, and a Beta-human Fox soldier. It was a sad day buring the dead, or rather, as the only builder left, I slowly made a mosoluem for them all, a better place to put all our loved ones and those I truelly loved (irl). I know its just a game, but it was truely heart breaking to see so many collonists that I enjoyed having around just... Gone... The Fortress was left nearly baren after that... I ended that game shortly after. It sucks I didn't back it up to maybe try and recover from that.
@@usernamehere2124 Its tough when you build up a colony with mods, of various creatures and humans and adroids. Death comes as a shock, and it hurts so bad. I've always wanted to perform "prisoners duel" ideology event but never really bothered. Once I started heavily RP focused colony which required duels to entertain the Noble Chief Leader. Two of three prisoners were being prepared for a duel, waiting just for their bruises to heal. One of them got liver infection which disqualified him from upcoming duel. Just before I was ready to give them weapons and let them all out on eachother, they developed a bond - A love, between two prisoners. That was the most spectacular and interesting duel that has ever took place in Techtropoly.
Populous the Beginning, I recommend taking a look at that game. Its rts, but as a lil kid, I used to have much more fun with it than just planning out how to get enemy out fast.
Pittman, my sixth colonist, she had a 16 in social but basically nothing else, I had to make her leave because of the lack of food. Six days later, I get a rescue mission for her, the food situation wasn’t resolved by then I never heard from her again. A colonist named „Luxemburg“ has taken up her spot in the colony
So, i decided we were going to Charleton Whitestones ship. A colonist, who was a lover of another colonist, was kidnapped, my main two were put into cryosleep to save their life, and by the time the startup sequence was completed, only one, the lover of the first one lost, and the two in cryosleep was left out of my thirteen colonists. Ishta, the lover, somehow managed to save the two colonists in cryosleep. And they left for the stars. Ishta stayed behind, hoping she would see her lover again one day...

Hail Arasia, High General of the Infinitist Society! May the technologies she provides give us all such bountiful life! My best colony was a military, science focused dictatorship ruled by a woman named Arasia. She started from nothing - literally. Naked and afraid, she built a technological society that reversed aging itself, replaced her entire body with bionic counterparts, and ruled over the surrounding areas through heavy bombardment and extreme prejudice. She married, though it was not a happy one. Done purely for ceremony, Kal cheated on her often, with soldiers, janitors, anyone. He didn't care. Arasia fell to drugs - yayo, cigarettes, even having several heart attacks, but the doctors of the technocracy wouldn't let her die. Eventually she packed up a muffalo, took her rifle, some medicine, food and a bedroll, and just left. This place, the people, they weren't who she built it for. Kal would take over. Though he was a stunning warrior (20 shooting, 17 melee) he never had the chops for leadership. The society she built eventually died, not with any dramatic change or final stand. No, people simply left. One after another, until Kal stood alone in an empty fortress, surrounded by all the technologies and comforts of the galaxy but not a soul to share them with. He died alone, in his bedroom. He was not mourned. Arasia remains unknown of, though rumours say she lives in a cabin alone, raising muffalo and living a quiet life. Though she gets unwelcome visitors, her past life experience makes them nothing but a footnote. She still isn't happy, she doubts she ever will be, but she has purpose.
This is a genius-level soundtrack. I don't say that lightly. I'm a super critical hater who usually shits on everyone's music. But this is definitely within top 5 soundtracks OF ALL TIME.
I'm playing this game, I started with 1 colonist. Then after 6 months inside the game time, someone decided to join us. It was a girl, while the first colonist was a guy. After a while, they realized that they were made for each other... But then a terrible event happened. We were attacked by a raider, his melee level was at 10. I decided to send the dude there first, because he has level 6 ranged combat and he has a good bow. But in the end, the raider won and took him somewhere. She tried to save him, but it was too late... And it was this track that was playing at that moment. I felt her sadness, she was sitting at the table and thinking about something... Thank God it's just a game and you can load past saves and fix everything, that's exactly what I did)
"i really hope the colonist with the worst aiming skill i just equiped with molotov cocktails doesn't miss his target 15 meters away from him and ends up accidentally throwing one onto my chemfuel storage in a base made entirely out of wood" *he did, infact, miss his target*
One of my founders, Jeff is dead. He was a herbalist and was the only doctor. When he got a infection, nobody could treat him and self tending wasn't enough, so he went to sleep forever. He loved animals, so he was buried nearby the animal farm so that he could see what he loved.

After 200 hours and many failed colonies, I managed to build my starship (I named it “Olympus Mons” and I’m very proud of it,) and fly into the Wild Black Yonder. Best game I have ever played.
One time, I had this colonist, Five Head (personally named by me) and he was friends with absolutely everyone. He dies during a raid and nearly everyone has a psychotic break. Only two guys survived and later died from starvation. Great game, 10/10 would recomend.
I remember my first modded colony, it's the oldest I remember. I had 3 soldiers, and I was playing a Winston Waves playthrough. I forgot their names, but they kept demolishing every raid that came through. We grew to six people, however it didn't last long. My mountain base was blown through by a few mechanoids on Wave 23. The mechanoids pierced through our defenses, as we didn't have a killbox. And after the rampage was over, I watched as my last few colonists slowly bled out all over the green grass. And then I loaded the colony again and beat their ass.
I once was a a leader of a strong, strong colony, dumping massive groups of waste on my enemies, making a drug and blood empire, only to be wiped out by a menace, a unit, a monster. John fritzler. Without his table he went on a rampage, shooting most of the people in my colony, or the people that were there, I had done a massive caravan to a colony friend, with Fritz, being left to watch over, Fritz was, you could say a Chad, he had multiple bionic parts, strong armor, trigger happy, and a minigun. And in my hour of need, a raid happened, killing Fritz, and destroying my progress, although I still have a thriving group of colonists, those who came with on the caravan, only if. He could find that god damn table.
my first colony was on a beach. i remember it was always raining. i remember the front yard with chess table and horseshoe pins. one day it got attacked by 5 centipedes. and no matter how many times i savescum i cant save it.
The first colony i ever had, pretty light mod order, was incredibly new to the game, made a base in the middle of who knows where and made a small shack out of wood, winter came before i even put down a crop plot and people started dying around us, ended up resorting to donner party tactics and ate those we could to survive, by the time winter was over i was left with one diseased man who later died, it was then that i fell in love with this game
One of my cats died in rimworld, so then I rezzed him back with debug mode, but then, all the colonists still think the cat is dead, so they are grieving over the loss of my alive cat, so anyways, all the colonists are sad and then one guy gets a mental break, and starts attacking the dang cat, then the guy actually managed to kill the cat (somehow) so now the colonists are double sad, and now everyone is just having mental breaks left and right. This is why you don't mess with debug mode, kids.
My colony couple died with 4 child and now the oldest daughter She's Optimist, Tough, Trigger-happy melts enemies with mini gun and became Count of my colony.
reminds me of my favourite reddit post on R/RimWorld by U/AbcLmn18 "RimWorld is this game where there's this music that goes like, strum... strum... strum... And it's like super relaxed and chill music and folks are walking around doing stuff, building houses, sowing crops, drinking beer and such. Then one day a bunch of angry folks come and attack you and the music changes to like drums and beats and so on and y'all start fighting. And you barely hold and angry folks retreat and everything is covered in blood and all your folks are shot and wounded and whoever can still walk carries downed folks to beds and folks who'll die of blood loss in 7 hours patch up folks who'll otherwise die of blood loss in 5 hours. And finally the dust settles, whoever survived survived, your folks count their losses, repair damage, and continue with their daily lives. And the music is like strum... strum... strum..."
I've lost plenty of colonists in the past, lost more colonies and restarted morethan I lost colonists, but recently I had this colonist that I really grew attached to, her name is Minmin and oddly enough she is 20 years older than her mother "YoungMom". Despite her old age, she was an amazing doctor and an overall important moral light of the colony. She's rescued people not even of our own faction along with her pacifist mother, saving people together and priding ourselves in aiding other factions and building a good relationship with everyone but all good things indeed come to an end. A mechanoid cluster crashed and took roots beneath the neighboring lands and worse, we only had one day to prepare. I have dealt with them before but I am not the most well equipped and savvy of combatting mechanoids, nontheless I was confident thinking this would end up as smooth as last time afterall we gained the favor of countless factions to aid us in our time of need so why else should I linger any doubt? But alas that confidence was to be my downfall, I had foolishly lined up my people in an open-field unconcerned of the countless swift rays that beams through the field from 3 large centipedes until one had been struct by the heart, one named Minmin.. She had instantly perished and suffered no pain, her final moments were as bleak as the beam that pierced her heart but her mother and everyone else around her had suffered an opposite fate, time had stopped for a moment filling the air with nothing but the faint explosions in the background and the agonizing screech from YoungMom, shock and rage had filled the battlefield. No longer is this battle an ordinary battle, but a battle for our beloved Minmin. Hours passed and my colony triumphed with the aid of one other faction, but this was a sorrowful triumph. YoungMom and the rest grieved, I was inconsolable but we nonetheless gave Minmin a proper and honorable burial, comemorating her valiant sacrifice for the colony and forever marking a note in my mind to never give in into this insidious killer I call overconfidence. I'm just here now to clear my mind as I listen to this tune.
Started a colony with a Female Colonist named Yuu "Hajuka" Ito. Started the game by opening up an ancient danger. This song comes up, mechanoid bullet misses and hits an ancient cruptosleep casket(all of them filled with hostile ancients, in the midsts of the firefight Hajuka is downed, Stranger in Black arrives with just a revolver, is named Allan "Snake" Patterson, Snake packs up, to head to another spot on the map, Hajuka gets killed, an ancient sees Snake, Snake runs very fast, a trade caravan from a civil outlander union arrives, snake escapes, the caravan kills the ancients, Snake is renamed to "Al" and builds a colony a few tiles away.
I just beat the mech colony, some got hurt but nobody died. Then when I allowed the mech bodies to be moved, my husky Snore tried to haul one of their body and the grizzly bear attacked her for food. I gathered troops but it was too late. I avenged her and killed the bear, but what to end? That's the first time I learned you can make a grave for pets
Emotional stories? Takes me back to the time i killed a single alpaca from a wandering caravan, got well over 2000 mortar shells and turned my colony into xenophobic boomer from fallout 4 type people that just mortar everybody who comes into the region

Gabby, she was only 16. she had to try to save all of her friends from bleeding out, but instead of guaranteeing the life of one, she tried to save them all, thus they all bled out. She got addicted to alcohol, probably trying to forget, all while this song was playing.
Thank you for sharing this heartbreaking story, president Obama.
The final of the three has died. He was a founder of BigusTittyComitee, and this land we call BigusTittyHome
It do be like that, the founders always have a special place in our hearts, no matter how big and vast the base becomes. Cuz we just know that they are the ones who have been along us the longest, the ones who started it all, from wooden rifles to pulse charged munitions
And this comment has 69 likes. Seems like there's hope for humanity after all.

"Moving on"
It's called that for a reason. Infact, most songs are named in a way that roughly translates to *when* they're played.
chaos bringer is for raids, example.
Moving on is for when a colonist dies.
@Outskirts Society Really? I'm convinced they play in some sort of order or scripted way.
@@applecore4720 when Jet got attached by chinchilla Moving On played

But that’s how the story goes. RIP
@@usernamehere2124 Its tough when you build up a colony with mods, of various creatures and humans and adroids. Death comes as a shock, and it hurts so bad. Even though I've gotten tired of it after hundreds of hours, the OST is still fantastic.
The soundtrack sounded a bit like Borderlands. Thats why I love it so much.

So I had a guy named Houston, he was an amazing protector of the colony, survived many fights, even lost his leg, but thanks to our doctor he survived
He got engaged, he was getting his jew bionic leg, all was good, until disatsers struck

"RimWorld is this game where there's this music that goes like, strum... strum... strum...
And it's like super relaxed and chill music and folks are walking around doing stuff, building houses, sowing crops, drinking beer and such.
Then one day a bunch of angry folks come and attack you and the music changes to like drums and beats and so on and y'all start fighting.
And you barely hold and angry folks retreat and everything is covered in blood and all your folks are shot and wounded
and whoever can still walk carries downed folks to beds and folks who'll die of blood loss in 7 hours patch up folks who'll otherwise die of blood loss in 5 hours.

I’m sorry about the mad raccoon, Gilmore... it’s time to start moving on.

Lesson from my first colony
