Is It That Good? | Harley Benton SC Custom II Active

  • Is it that good? We are checking out the SC Custom II Active, and I was actually really surprised with this guitar. It sounded amazing when I hooked it up to my Ampknob Rev C from Bogren Digital. I was really hoping that the SC Custom II was going to blow me away, and it did. The SC Custom II just had a few minor QC issues like securing the neck pickup. aligning the tone knob, and making the input easier to get a guitar cable into. But other than those minor issues the SC Custom II is totally worth the $225 that I paid for it!

    Heyy!!
    One month ago I bought the HB SC 1000, It is also an Eclipse copy, but I had to give It back to Thomann because It had a crack on the headstock.
    Then, when I recieved the new SC 1000, It came with another crack between the neck and the fingerboard, and I had to give It back again.
    Now I will try to buy this one, which is like the superior model of the SC1000, Hope It will arrive safe, hahaha.
    Great video and review.

    Just received my HB35+ yesterday. The reviews are true!....it's awesome. A "B" stock and not a thing wrong with it. I took a chance on Harley Benton acoustic last spring and ordered their take on the solid mahogany Martin 00015 @ 2100$ here in Canada. The HB was 410 $ delivery and all duty included, and it's a lovely guitar. Perfect for delta stuff. Great review...says it all. Thanks

    Can you imagine that we can have active pickups from EMGs for a price defying all competition
    And I have the impression that it gets better with the years
    When I started playing guitar I would have loved to hear about Harley Benton if it existed at the time
    I play with a real Eclipse now but I wish I knew when I started

    Excellent review. May i know if the model u got is made in Vietnam or Indonesia? Do u see the need to upgrade the pickups to EMG Active Pickups? Been seeing mixed reviews on the QC like nut issues, fretwork, binding on the earlier model issues. Otherwise it definitely sounds great for the price

    I just received my Harley Benton SC and Cherry... Straight out of the box, it was really fun to play and sounded incredible. I had previously ordered a Jackson Warrior with Tremolo, and that guitar was more expensive and was alright to play (considering its name brand.) I will definitely buy another HB guitar... Going to buy their CST DIY guitar and an Amarok.

    Good honest video. You're a very accomodating guy; I would have sent that back! Fixable faults are just about acceptable if you've got a good deal but the loose pickup? If it won't tighten on the screws then the wood around the screw holes needs to be cut out and a new block glued in. Same with the angled switch: oversize drilling and dowelling but in this area you would be removing surface paint. I was hoping that HB q.c. had improved lately but it seems to be only on certain models.
    Nice playing, I like the little arpeggio, it's catchy.

      Those are all good points forsure. I find that the Harley Benton guitars are great project guitars, but there are much better brands out there. Even with the little things I do really enjoy this guitar, and play it all the time.
      I definitely love doing these reviews, because I can let anyone that is looking for a certain piece of equipment my thoughts, and I want to be as honest about it as I can. I think that is huge.

    HB definitely makes great products for the price. I have a little studio sized acoustic from them and it sounds like my buddy's Martin. There's one fret that is noticeably scratchy but for like $300 shipped...damn good.

      Hey! Really glad that you enjoy your Harley Benton guitar. I really love this single cut. I still use it to this day on recording and writing music.
      Though I have had some not so great products delivered from them. Most of HB's products have been solid!

    I have 5 HBs. Didn't plan on that, but the quality has been great and you can't beat the price. I did get the EX-84 with EMGs. I'm not a fan of the EX-84 sitting down with it. I mostly play seated. So, I think I might try one of the black with the gold hardware. I wish they'd do a blacked out version. I'm not a huge fan of the gold. I might change out the EX-84 black hardware for the gold on this, and then it would be blackedout. If it all fits. Anyways. Great video. I'd like a bit on playing without a track. But, it's your video and you did great. Great sound and production. 2 thumbs up.

      Thank you so much for tuning in, and all the support! I will definitely try to bring some dry guitar playing without a mix in some future videos!
      So far I've been really happy with the Harley Bentons. I will say the only issue I've run into is the quality of the hardware is easily breakable (I found out the hard way) but sound wise, and feel they are great!

    In my experience most humbucker pickups are just held in with screws through the bottom plate (height adjusters). They move a bit in every guitar I've owned, but if it's excessive........?

    • @HighImpaktAudio
      @HighImpaktAudio  10 месяцев назад +1

      I have the same experiences with humbuckers. I tried checking the screws to make sure they aren't too loose.
      But the pickup just kinda wobbles in its pocket haha.
      Either way hasn't effected the sound, and tone. Just moved a bit more than I'm used to.
      Thank you so much for watching!! 😁

    Those flaws are expected, hence the price. Without the little flaws they'd go to 500-600. But the one that's the "eclipse" one is another model! Even cheaper the SC-1000 WH Progressive Line.

    I'm struggling between this one and ltd eclipse 256 , what will be better ?

    • @HighImpaktAudio
      @HighImpaktAudio  3 месяца назад +1

      I have both guitars and the quality of the metal parts is a little bit better on the 256 from ltd. Though with that being said I do really enjoy the roswell active pickups they sound awesome in my opinion. These guitars have the same shape but have some different features like the pickups. If you prefer the more passive pickup sound then go with the 256. If you like the active pickups then go with the SC Custom. I really enjoy both guitars I believe you'll get a good one either way.
      The Ltd will be a bit more tame for stuff like rock and hard rock where the SC Custom is a metal machine.
      Hope this helps! Thank you so much for watching! 😁

    What's the difference between this model and the SC 1000 Progressive line model?

    • @HighImpaktAudio
      @HighImpaktAudio  Год назад +1

      Hello!
      It looks like the progressive line has a mahogany body while the custom line has a meranti body.
      The progressive also is running some active HBZ HI gain pickups, and the custom is running a set of active roswell.
      The fretboard of the progressive is amaranth versus the roasted jatoba of the custom.
      Also the progressive has a "C" shape neck and the custom has the Modern "C" shape. How different those shapes are I'm not sure.
      But from having played both I haven't not much of a difference.
      There are a few other minor differences in components, but there are the bigger ones that I saw.
      Thank you for watching! 😁

      @@HighImpaktAudio Thanks man. So, which one's better overall?

    • @HighImpaktAudio
      @HighImpaktAudio  Год назад +1

      @eddieroxx not a problem! Overall spec wise they both are aimed towards high gain tones. Though I don't have any experience with the progressive line. It's hard to say which one is better.
      The price point on the customs that I saw were a little higher than the progressive line which leads me to think that the hard ware of the custom will be better.
      I got a Harley benton Dullahan that was about $125 and the metal threads for the screws stripped out really easily. So I'd probably go with the slightly higher price point due to the quality.
      I have the Custom II from this video still. And I can easily say that I still love it. It's held up quite well for me! So I'd probably recommend the Custom
