MOS was incredible, I was born in the early 80s, I was raised on Reeves and Keaton but superman never felt real just a comic book on screen, MOS grounded the character and made him feel real it was an amazing movie. WB then refused to allow MOS2 to be made as they wanted Batman included as soon as possible. BVS Ultimate Edition was also a really good movie, and then with WW and Zack Synder Justice League we could of had something very very special but for some reason the studio decided to get involved and destroy what we could of had. I personally won’t give Gunn a penny as his comments on kids turned me off him for life, but I hope others enjoy his vision and the DCU to come. 👍David will no doubt crush it as Superman best of luck to him. Really hope people enjoy it 👍
If this is what the trailer shows me about Superman, then I want a comic-accurate Batman movie next. One where they aren't afraid to let him be with the rest of DC and deal with fantastical elements/villains. Be a father to Robin and a brother to Superman.
I implore everyone here in this comment section and Nightwingstan to watch Superman and Lois. It is also a good superman adaptation, excited for the 2025 adaptation.
Yeah can’t agree enough. A lot of people say it’s the best live-action Superman content now, and I agree it is so far, but I am hyped for this film and I think can surpass it too.
I'm still waiting for the movie to come out before judging the movie. Also, I liked the gloomy superman versions but I miss the fun, inspiring movie. Christophe Reeve gave me that feeling when I was a kid and the recent superman trailer gave me that exact same feeling. which is hopeful and excited. r
First comic accurate Superman on the big screen in a while. In the video, I do reference Richard Donner’s movies as classic adaptations. I wouldn’t be a DC fan without Superman II.
Reeve's Clark was NOT comic accurate at the time. Clark was not a klutz or nerd, he was just mild-mannered which meant he wasn't aggressive or quick to anger or even prone to standing up for himself once it looked like fisticuffs were inevitable. Clark would go toe to toe with anybody, but would back down once they looked ready to throw hands because he could not fake an injury if they punched him in the eye or nose or lip and they ended up with a broken hand. So he would speak his piece and if the other person started getting overly aggressive, he would back down. That's mild-mannered, not a wimp or a dork and that's how George Reeves played him in the television show. Chris Reeve re-imagined Clark as a dork and a wimp and the comics grabbed onto that for the latter half of the Bronze Age from 1978 to 1985. Chris needed to differentiate the two personas and having Clark have a backbone made him too much like Superman. Dean Cain would encounter this issue later but his problem was slightly from the other side. Comic Clark at the time was a former athlete, academic genius, well-rounded and self-confident with no issues with the ladies. Superman was Superman, larger than life, heroic, majestic and very commanding. Clark kept a weight set at his apartment and his athletic trophies on his shelves to account for his build, plus he was raised on a farm. Superman was never thought to have a secret identity. Back to Cain. His Clark was High School and college star athlete, genius and world traveler. He could hold his own in a verbal battle with Lois and even get the better of her. He was well liked by everybody and ladies wanted him. His Superman on the other hand was plain, stoic, aloof and had no real personality until he talked to his mother and she admonished him for thinking of Superman as just a cardboard cutout. So he started giving Superman more personality but not more than Clark. "Superman is what I can do, Clark is who I am." Cain's Clark told Lois that and that's been the prevailing thought regarding the two since. Superman is the disguise that Clark dons to use his powers in public. In the years before 1985, Superman was the man and Clark was the disguise and that was understood by all and sundry.
Superman has been written and drawn by a billion different writers and artists. His character has gone through hundreds of changes over the decades. There is no such thing as 'comic accurate' Superman. It depends on what the audience wants at the time. Cavill destroyed a truck in MOS and everyone lost their shit. Reeves beat up a truck driver in Superman II. Both showed the 'human' side of Kal. All the films just show different facets of the character. Stop letting your dislike/like for any writer or producer guide your criticisms. It makes it sound more like whining.
He was as reasonable and level headed in this video as humanly possible. Yes, there are many different iterations of Superman throughout the years but the core and essence of the character has always been that of hope, optimism, joy, and justice. Can you find some stories over the nearly 100 years that don't fully focus on those things? Well yes lol. But the core of Superman will always be the same. That's what comic accurate Superman means. And yes, we're getting it for the first time in a while.
@doc8013 I just want to say thank you for this comment. Glad you watched the entire video and appreciate you! And yes, what I meant is that this is the first movie in a while that looks like it’s capturing the essence of what Superman is, which is why I think the trailer is so popular.
@@Nightwingstan-n7r just found you a few days ago after the Superman trailer and every video I've seen since you've had really good, level-headed analysis, which isn't exactly easy to find when looking for DC related discussions. Although this trailer has really seemed to kinda bring the fandom together. That has to do with your points about it capturing the essence of the character. We all know and love Superman for the same reason, at least the vast majority of the fans do. This trailer totally captured that.
Reeve = Comic Accurate Superman

Last we had decent superman was chris/brandon
Brandon was heavily underrated
Chris is all-time, Brandon needed a better movie like Cavill. Glad Brandon got to play Kingdom Come Superman.
@Nightwingstan-n7r brandon is my superman. But I do agree on that I'm catching up on the older superman films from 1948

First comic accurate Superman?!? I guess you weren’t even a thought in the universe when Christopher Reeve defined Big Blue.

@Falcun21 I think I really like the MY adventures with superman take on Clark.
@Falcun21 please cite a comic where Clark Kent didn't back down from a physical confrontation.
