@@homerunhitters333 Going to have to disagree with you on this one. A couple weeks ago at that Mets event, Cohen told the fans that the negotiations were tough and that they would probably move on if things didn't change. If the Mets didn't want Pete, they would not have made any offer. They just didn't want to get ripped off. Pete only hits HR's. He doesn't get on base, he doesn't hit for average, he doesn't run well and he's a below average defender. He's averaged 2.9 WAR over the last 2 years. Also, the Mets offer that was on the table (3/$72) was the highest offer of any team and now he is the highest AAV first basemen in the league. Mets wanted Pete but not at a ridiculous contract. Pete bet on himself and lost. Regardless, I'm glad he's back. Wish it was for 3 years but 1 is better than nothing. He will obviously opt out after year 1

Boras is still tripping over the Juan Soto money. He sold Petey a can of worms. The 7-year $158 mill pre-Stearns deal is looking pretty generous now, but we're all geniuses in hindsight. I want to see Alonso make Francessa eat his words about aging badly (something Mikey knows a lot about)
I still contend that this has been more about turning 30 (the new 40 in metric terms) than it does having an "off" year in '24. Pete does not have to carry the power burden on his back anymore with Vientos and Soto in the lineup. I think we'll see that average and RBI totals up in '25.

I think he understands these things are not easily done. Are you a Mets fan? Pete Alonso is back with our team for 2 more years to play 1st base and to remain being a part of the lineup now that finally has the xfactor in it that the Mets and the fans have been waiting for.
And this is what you're thinking and saying ? Hey, he's back with the team he wants to be with the most and he'll be making more than plenty of money. I think he's happy. You should too. You can trust that last year was a super test and a super learning experience for him. A down year for this man comes with 34 bombs and 80+ Rbis, not to mention all the fantastic plays he made at 1st and all the errant throws he saved with his glove picking skills.
This is a very intelligent player who went through a really tough year to say the least. You best to believe that he learned from such a tough year and from what he was able to overcome to show up during the post season.
I have this snap shot with him and Lindor on my phone. They're both looking at each other with so much thrill and excitement as they're celebrating. I wish I could share it here. Lindor the captain of the infield wanted him back. McNeil got his best friend back.
Now he will have the great patience of Soto with him on the team and that will help him big time. That great eye of Soto along with his entire hitting approach at the plate is going to merge with the entire lineup. Mets fans should be celebrating right now. I'am.
Is Mendoza going to make the lineup up like I want it? Probably not but it's going to be the best lineup of all the lineups the Mets ever had.
Pete is back and Soto is a New York Met. 🥂

@@jason7638 Being a Mets fan means everyone is still entitled to their opinions, bruh. And it's not a long term contract that he wanted... so he won't be here for long. Fact is Alonso gambled and lost because he got greedy. So don't sugarcoat the obvious here. Next year he'll be gone because the Mets have bigger fish to reel in... namely Vlad Guerrero Jr and Kyle Tucker. Remember, the game of sports is more a business than anything else now... more than ever. What does that mean to you? It means that the Mets are not holding dear to past glory or accomplishments. And well they shouldn't. Just as players (like Pete) are looking to get more money, baseball owners are also looking out for their best interests... in this case the Mets know they can do so much better if they don't panic like you fans out there and stick to their principles by carefully seeing what's in the horizon for next year's free agency!
