South Kaibab, an eclipse, a night at Phantom Ranch and back up. Grand Canyon, Arizona.
I was able to secure a night at Phantom Ranch off the transfer portal from a group on Facebook a few months ago. Without even thinking about any details about any aspect of this, it was purchased. It all happened so fast, and when it was done I had a cabin with enough room for eight people! So, I posted to the group without much thought and if anyone was interested in tagging along for my adventure down and share the cabin. I got a few replies. Upon getting home from work, my girlfriend, her daughter and I creeped the Facebook profiles. We quickly made a unanimous decision. Tom. He was adventurous, liked to hike, and seemed like a nice, fun, normal guy and loved dogs. He was also around my age. When we first talked it was like I’ve known him for a lifetime and we and immediately clicked. When we met at the Grand Canyon we were like kindred spirits, connected by fate, going through the same things in life. I knew this would be a great trip and a lifelong friendship. Whie this a long video in parts and a slog in others I made this video for its totality of our adventure. I made this for myself, I made this for Tom, I made this for us. I am sharing it with you to give us hope that indeed… good things can happen on the internet when you step outside your comfort zone and take a chance. This video was created so we could always watch it wherever we are, whenever we want to re-live the memory of hiking into the Grand Canyon, for it is now eternal.
