You are a beautiful person, inside and out. And so is your garden. What an inspiration! Just started sheet mulching my front yard in Sarasota, Florida so that I don't have to pay to have it mowed. Good for the wallet and good for the planet. Thank you so much for your videos!
I love it! I’m going to try that mulching. We had a bad hurricane that almost took everything out so starting from scratch. A blessing and a curse. Thank you for all the great tips.
You got me here yelling at the phone! Had to close my office door. Darn add popped up at the kitchen window! Way to represent the 8 -oh- three! In the words of DJ Khaled, "Another one!" 😅 This is why you are linked in my bio! Thanks for sharing!!!
@@jaysgardenjournal I used your newspaper method on a slope that divides our property lines. The hose as a guide was a great idea. Our landscaper came by as I was doing it . He asked where'd I gotten the idea from? A woman on RUclips! 😄😄😄
Love the Before and After photos. I lay brown paper down (I use the garden bags from Costco) and cover with mulch for weed control, It lasts for ~2 years. Helps me to focus on a few beds per season.
I just found your video, I have a garden that was neglected when I was taken ill and no one in my family wanted to tackle it but you just helped get back in the game thanks.
Absolutely love your garden. Gardening produces sanity, doesn't it? I never feel like I've had a truly good weekend unless I can get some dirt under my fingernails! Have you ever grown China asters? Not sure how they'd do in your southern climate. I grow them in Rhode Island
I am in the Desert SW, I have only known Bermuda Grass, and making a bed like this is like inviting it to grow.....it is the oddest thing, it grows where you don't want it. All of my beds must be at least two inches below the surface of the ground so as to deep water the roots. Most days I find myself going from planting bed to planting bed moving the hose as it fills up...Bermuda loves that too! LOL Jay, you have a Dreamscape Garden!
I want to create an island garden bed in the front of my house, basically connecting 2 evergreen trees. It's a big job. You motivated me to do it....😅😊
Amazing garden. You've worked so hard. Could you share how to maintain sheet mulching during the season? Do weeds break through mid-year? Do you spot fix and redo the sheet mulching?
I love your garden it’s so full and beautiful. I have a question about the cardboard process. Do you do it in the fall and then ready to plant for spring? Is it just cardboard and mulch and nothing else? The reason I’m asking is I’m very interested in trying this in my yard.
Thank you! I'm definitely going to sheet mulch my side yard over-run by ferns. But may l ask, do you think cardboard will be strong enough? I'll try a small area first to see how it goes. Happy gardening!
How long does this cardboard last? I'm assuming that over time the cardboard will breakdown allowing weeds to grow. Will you need to redo them with new cardboard?
Wow! You have done a beautiful job with your garden!! I’m also in zone 8 in north Texas…how long did it take for the cardboard to disintegrate and allow you to plant in those beds? I’ve just started using paper bags as weed suppression with compost on top. Your property is such an inspiration!
I wish I had 1/20th of your energy. Good golly !!!!!
This is the inspiration I needed to add more flower bed to my yard and less useless grass.
Go for it! Thanks for visiting the garden🌱🌱🌱

Wow! Beautiful as you are! I too have used this method.

Beautiful! What a difference a few years and your hard work has made. How do you keep the grass from growing over into your beds?
I add more mulch as needed. And I try to make it a habit to weed my garden beds on a regular basis.
Amazing garden. You've worked so hard. Could you share how to maintain sheet mulching during the season? Do weeds break through mid-year? Do you spot fix and redo the sheet mulching?
Yes, I reapply if the weeds spring back vigorously but they rarely do if I keep the soil covered with natural mulch (leaves, wood chips, etc)
Love watching you Jay. I've used the sheet mulch method too.
Absolutely beautiful and inspirational!!
Beautiful gardens 🥰 Thank you for sharing the sheet mulching technique too, I’ve tried it and it’s working great!
Amazing what you've been able to accomplish!
Love sedum joy!
How do you water all of your garden. Its beautiful 😍

Nice work! Pls where did you get the wide leaf that is turning purple on garden bed number one?
Found it at Lowe’s about 2years ago
@@jaysgardenjournal Thanks pls what is the name of the plant?
Thank you! I'm definitely going to sheet mulch my side yard over-run by ferns. But may l ask, do you think cardboard will be strong enough? I'll try a small area first to see how it goes. Happy gardening!
Go for it! 🌱🌱
How often do you add more mulch?
After creating the garden bed, do you recommend installing edging around the bed? Or do you find edging is not necessary?
Not necessary. I like a natural edge 🌱

After you put cardboard and soil down, how long do you have to wait before you start planting?
You can plant first then sheet mulch or wait 6-12 months
how many layers of cardboard do you recommend. I'm in Texas and I have bermuda grass.
I use one layer, but I overlap the edges really well
