The boomers ABSOLUTELY knew they were doing this to us, because they were my teachers and my teachers in the 70s and 80s told me their generation was selling out mine. They even told us their unions knew the pension plans they were forcing on small school districts were unaffordable and unsustainable. My parents knew it, too. My parents told me there would be no social security by the time I was 65. They were right. I can't retire until past 67.

I'm the youngest in a small group with all boomers, and we had a conversation about leaving "houses and wealth" to their children, and they were mostly dismissive of it. One of the couples said they wanted to spend all their money so their kids would have nothing when they died. I thought that was a wicked viewpoint but I didn't say anything at that moment out of prudence and charity, being the youngest member of the group (I straddle the line between being a young Gen Xer and an Older Millenial). Ironically, the one person who wanted to leave something to her children was the lady who I know is influenced by the prosperity gospel, like Joel Osteen. I think that's more evidence how when the current evangelical leaders went scorched earth on prosperity teachers a lot of other things got burned in the process.

Boomers are completely self absorbed. My grandparents were of the great generation. They worked hard, were responsible and they sacrificed for their children. When they died, my mother took the money and spent it traveling. She calls herself a Christian but she only thinks about herself.
My father is the same way. He tells me things were hard when he was young so he can relate. He went through a party period in his youth working in the oil-field and drinking a lot. He tells me he totalled 15 cars and two motorcycles while driving intoxicated. Fortunately he never killed anyone but can you imagine working a blue-collar job and having the money to afford beer and crash that many cars? And he tells me he can relate?!

Some missed opportunities here to talk about the Boomers, quite possibly one of the spoiled generation and the economic timebomb that is going to bring about the downfall.
Boomers (as a generation; individuals have varied experiences) were born and grew up in one of the most economically advantaged time periods in the history of mankind. Their previous generations went through the Great Depression and two World Wars to build a military and economic superpower, grew up in an environment where you can sustain a family with a high school diploma. Their work comparatively was rewarded much more than what the current generation can be rewarded. They have assets that they’ve accumulated (house, retirement accounts) that has had decades of overall positive growth.
Now they are coming of retirement age, and the unfunded liabilities of social security and Medicare are looming over the country like a slowly moving meteor. While they had the time and the political power to deal with this, they didn’t. They could have, but the concerns of the younger generations were no match for their own collective greed. Ask any boomer, conservative or liberal, about a serious reform of these programs, and you’ll get the same answer.

    • @hacerclic1020

You are not speaking from wisdom. Every generation blames the one before for the state the world is in. Boomers blamed their parents' generation and your children's generation will curse yours. The problem is not Boomers. The problem is sin in the heart of every man, including your own.

    • @Rexhunterj
      @Rexhunterj 17 дней назад

It's the same in Australia. The government gave out the age-pension/retirement-pension to offset the line of poverty.
Before that pension was instated the level of poverty and outright homelessness in the elderly was high, high enough to take a sizeable chunk off the poverty statistics to convince the people on voting it in/accepting it.
We also offer a disability and job seeker pension for those without an income, the people on these are treated like subhumans, despite being in the same position as the elderly people.
Everyone just avoids the discussion of a UBI which would solver several problems if we could fund it (which we could if we got rid of corporate greed and incompetence in the government)

Young men are more likely to work at Chik Fila than learn a physical trade because they will be competing against illegal labor. I'd like to also point out something about work today: most white collar work created today is very, let's just say, empty. While this isn't across the board there is a significant portion of work that is just "make work", that is, work generated for it's own sake. And unfortunately most college degrees will only deliver you into that kind of job. Transitioning from being a military maintainer to a manufacturing QA analyst has been eye opening with how much purpose has been taken out of a lot of jobs today. And with AI just beginning to make it's mark in industry, a LOT of people are gonna find themselves without a rudder because most of the white collar work will be cut away by it. We're really beginning to enter a transitional period (similar to the Industrial Revolution and the advent of the Internet) in regards to the fundamental nature of work itself.
If you're blue collar, well you probably still have time before significant changes manifest (maybe) and certainly doing working with your hands is certainly more grounding of an experience than typing away at excel spreadsheets all day. But changes are happening and spiritually we're going to have to have answers for entire generations questioning what is purposeful work when so much is taken up by tech.

Good discussion. However, the dynamics my wife and our family deal with are a bit different in that we're Bible-believing believers and both sets of our parents are woke, unsaved boomers. Not expecting much from them, even though they live in nice houses but why should we? More importantly, we are praying for God to cause them to repent and believe. If that means continuing to rent forever in a 1200 sq. ft. apartment so be it. We wouldn't trade that if it meant they (and our siblings and their families) were saved.

A lot of interesting discussion and content in this video. Thanks for making it. The discussion might have been more edifying if a boomer Christian had been included in the dialog. I think some of the commentary does not recognize that a lot of what was described was not things boomers did or decided, but they were the generation that this system was forced on. I did not choose these things, I saw them happening, I fought against them, and I was grieved as I saw them unfold. It would be like blaming the border crisis on your generation. Make sure you can handle it spiritually and economically, that your wife is fully on board and fully supportive of the endeavor, ideally that she live in a space of her own, but even if she doesn't - set very solid ground rules about who does what and goes where and when. I say all of this because my mom is not Christian- but even if your mom is Christian, make sure you communicate well and that you're ready to be a kind of 'functional head' over two adult women. Obviously, you will not be your mom's spiritual head, but many of those duties will likely start to overlap. Jesus is the Sabbath ,he gives true rest.
Genesis 2:The Garden of Eden 2 And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.
Deuteronomy 5:The Ten Commandments Reviewed 12 ‘Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, as the Lord your God commanded you. 13 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 14 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work:
Psalm 95:A Call to Worship and Obedience 8 “Do not harden your hearts, as in the rebellion, As in the day of trial in the wilderness, 9 When your fathers tested Me; They tried Me, though they saw My work. 10 For forty years I was grieved with that generation, And said, ‘It is a people who go astray in their hearts, And they do not know My ways.’ 11 So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest.’ ”
Mark 2:Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath 27 And Jesus said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. 28 Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath.”
Matthew 11:Jesus Gives True Rest 28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Colossians 2:Not Legalism but Christ 16 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, 17 which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ. 18 Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, 19 and not holding fast to the Head, from whom all the body, nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments, grows with the increase that is from God. 20 Therefore, if you died with Christ from the basic principles of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to regulations- 21 “Do not touch, do not taste, do not handle,” 22 which all concern things which perish with the using-according to the commandments and doctrines of men? 23 These things indeed have an appearance of wisdom in self-imposed religion, false humility, and neglect of the body, but are of no value against the indulgence of the flesh.
Acts 15: But some of the sect of the Pharisees who believed rose up, saying, “It is necessary to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.” 6 Now the apostles and elders came together to consider this matter. 7 And when there had been much dispute, Peter rose up and said to them: “Men and brethren, you know that a good while ago God chose among us, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe. 8 So God, who knows the heart, acknowledged them by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He did to us, 9 and made no distinction between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. 10 Now therefore, why do you test God by putting a yoke on the neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? 11 But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved in the same manner as they.”
24 Since we have heard that some who went out from us have troubled you with words, unsettling your souls, saying, “You must be circumcised and keep the law”-to whom we gave no such commandment- 25 it seemed good to us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, 26 men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 27 We have therefore sent Judas and Silas, who will also report the same things by word of mouth. 28 For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things: 29 that you abstain from things offered to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well. Farewell.
Acts 21:Paul Urged to Make Peace 18 On the following day Paul went in with us to James, and all the elders were present. 19 When he had greeted them, he told in detail those things which God had done among the Gentiles through his ministry. 20 And when they heard it, they glorified the Lord. And they said to him, “You see, brother, how many myriads of Jews there are who have believed, and they are all zealous for the law; 21 but they have been informed about you that you teach all the Jews who are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, saying that they ought not to circumcise their children nor to walk according to the customs.
Galatians 3:Purpose of the Law 21 Is the law then against the promises of God? Certainly not! For if there had been a law given which could have given life, truly righteousness would have been by the law. 22 But the Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. 23 But before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law, kept for the faith which would afterward be revealed. 24 Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 25 But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.
2 Corinthians 3:Glory of the New Covenant 12 Therefore, since we have such hope, we use great boldness of speech- 13 unlike Moses, who put a veil over his face so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the end of what was passing away. 14 But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ. 15 But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart. 16 Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
Galatians 4:Fears for the Church 9 But now after you have known God, or rather are known by God, how is it that you turn again to the weak and beggarly elements, to which you desire again to be in bondage? 10 You observe days and months and seasons and years. 11 I am afraid for you, lest I have labored for you in vain. 12 Brethren, I urge you to become like me, for I became like you. You have not injured me at all. 13 You know that because of physical infirmity I preached the gospel to you at the first. 14 And my trial which was in my flesh you did not despise or reject, but you received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus. 15 What then was the blessing you enjoyed? For I bear you witness that, if possible, you would have plucked out your own eyes and given them to me. 16 Have I therefore become your enemy because I tell you the truth? 17 They zealously court you, but for no good; yes, they want to exclude you, that you may be zealous for them. 18 But it is good to be zealous in a good thing always, and not only when I am present with you. 19 My little children, for whom I labor in birth again until Christ is formed in you, 20 I would like to be present with you now and to change my tone; for I have doubts about you.
