- SAINIK SCHOOL ADMISSION AND SAINIK SCHOOL ENTRANCE EXAM ADMISSION TO SAINIK SCHOOL IS A MATTER OF GREAT HONOUR AND PRIDE
1. Sainik Schools : a Brief History - The Sainik Schools comprise of chain of schools in India started in 1961 by India’s then Defence Minister Krishna Menon to rectify the regional and class imbalance amongst the officer cadre of the Indian armed forces. The model of Sainik Schools was adopted from the Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC) which have given India many service chiefs and the public school system of England. Deserving students can get high quality education at Sainik schools irrespective of their income or class background. Since their inception, Sainik Schools have sent thousands of students to the Army, the Navy and the Air Force as officers and produced many more responsible civil citizens of the nation.
2. The Sainik Schools in India - As of now, there are 33 Sainik schools, at least one per major states, of the Republic of India. These schools prepare their cadets to lead as officers in the Defence Services of the country. However, alumni of Sainik Schools have excelled themselves in diverse walks of life. The schools selects the best and capable students through a national level entrance examination and attempts to mould their overall personality with emphasis on extracurricular activities. The Sainik school cubs had their baptism of fire in the 1971 Indo - Pak war and emerged with flying colours. Remember how the young officers led their troops upfront, uphill, undauntedly through the cannonade to recapture the Kargil massifs? And many alumni of Sainik schools have rose to the highest pedestal by becoming chiefs of Army, Navy, Air Force. These residential schools admit students in class VI and provide them with an education that imbibes the Orwellian ‘Officer Like Qualities’ making them, ideally, fit to join the National Defence Academy. Admission is also given in class IX, subject to availability of vacant seats which have been carried forward successively. The Sainik Schools are managed by a Society which is registered under the Societies Registration Act (XXI of 1960). The administration of the Sainik School is vested with an autonomous body under the Board of Governors with the Rajya Raksha Mantri as its Chairman. The Chief Ministers and the Education Ministers of the States are also the members of the Board of Governors. The Local Board of Administration meets at regular intervals to review the progress of the School and to devise measures for improvement.

Minimum Admission Requirement - For admission in Sixth Standard, boys must be between the age group of 10 - 11 years on the 1st July of the year in which admission is sought. For vacant seats, admission is given in class 9th, for which the student must be between the age group of 13 to 14 years on the 1st July of the year in which admission is sought.
5. Reservation of Seats - 67% vacancies are reserved for boys belonging to the State in which the school is located. Out of this 15%, 7.5% and 25% seats are reserved for the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Armed Forces Personnel including the Ex - servicemen.

Sainik Schools ensure overall development of a student including academics, sports, physical fitness etc. The student is at a liberty to chose any field including defence after 12th.
