Berbers were invited by Islamic scholars to protect against Christians and they did so for 200 years. Without the Berbers Al Andalusia would have fallen in 1100-1200, instead of 1492. Never divide the Muslims up into ethnic groups and foreigners Muslims are one United Islamic group
@@mayankbisht7691 Yes i know, im just saying at the time of al andalus, ethnic division was the least of the problems of the andalusians. They just wanted protection from their rulers and christian raids, and they invited the almohads and celebrated when they came with open arms. there are poems about this and letters from numerous cities inviting almoravids to come to al andalus. Almoravids at first had no interest and then they came and defeated the christians in sagrajas and left again, because they were not interested in land expansion into iberia. The flaw in studying history is that we sometimes read its pages to read the news of victories and defeats, and news of births and deaths. Almohads are really getting a lot of criticism in many videos about their "inability in siege warfare" and "lack of supply trains". noone takes into account they had to defend from both the banu ghaniya attacks and huge arab nomad migration into north africa from the east (banu hilal), as well as defend against 5 christian kingdoms to the north. its a defensive front of more than 3000 km long. regarding the supply situation it is a matter of the gibraltar bottleneck that limit supplies from north africa, having to bring troops from far away tunisia and southern morocco is also difficult, and the war impoverished iberian peninsula, that could not support almohads huge armies. Castile literally had a castle every mile or so, and almohads took a great many of them in a time before guns and cannons.
The almohads actually were able to défend themselves and attack. But because of 3 reasons they collapsed: wrongly chosen caliphs, merinid revolt, and the andalusians betraying them in Las Navas
@@aym.s5827 yeah, they betrayed their Berber protectors. And they got their due reward, which was being conquered by extremist Christian kingdoms. I personally think that the problem is that neither the Almoravids nor the Almohads had any real interest in Al-Andalus, as their domains lied in North Africa. However, I do think that, given time (which the Taifas didn't really have), a capable leader would have conquered the whole Al-Andalus, thus unifying the Muslims again under native rule. This would have been slightly better as local rules had a more vested interest in maintaning their domains than foreign conquerors. I think the situation is similar to that of China, which was divided into warring States several times, conquered by barbarians from the north, until they unified under a powerful centralized State that protected the frontiers, with varying degrees of success. In fact, I'm writing a novel on the subject. So, if you want to contribute, let me know.
The Almoravides and the Almohads lasted a combined total of 200 years in Spain and Portugal. They were always alien Muslim desert tribes , they destroyed a lot but contributed greatly to the desire for a reconquista
Al Andalus occupies a special place in Islamic history and folklore. It is looked at with wonder and sorrow as well because Muslims were eventually ethnically cleansed from the region after the reconquista. In his poem, Tarana-e-Milli (Song Of The Community), the great Urdu literattaeur Allama Iqbal makes a reference to Muslim Spain: "Ay gulsitaan e andalus! Wo din haiN yaad tujh ko. Thaa teri DaaliyoN par jab aashiyaaN hamaara." Translation: O garden of Andalus, you will remember those days. When our abode was a nest on your branches." Iqbal also indirectly referred to Andalus in his classic Shikwa.
Many of the Jews were already ethnically cleansed by the Almohads, which were one of the Berber dynasties, that made an ultimatum that the non-Muslims either convert or die. Those who converted did so out of fear of death and practiced their religion in secret.
Stop the playing victims. Remember that Judaism people were suffered because of Granada 1066 AD tragedy. Remember that nonmuslims suffered from Almohad Reforms in 13th century, which hundred years much earlier than the aforementioned Spanish Inquisituon (and the Almohad puritanism might inspired the Spanish Inquisition)
Remember that christians had to practice their religion in secret.. invented language such as Mozarab during almohad rule. It was already preceding the Spanish Inquisition by many hundred years.
Why not start andulus in Morocco or Libya? Instead, millions of North Africans are fleeing to Western Christian countries disguised as UNDERAGED refugees.
The fall of Al Andalus continued with the rule of the Berber dynasties due to their strict interpretation of Islam that ended the Golden Age of multiculturalism. This especially occurred under the puritanical Almohads when the intellectual output of Al Andalus dropped drastically. Scholars like Ibn Rushd had their books burned and were banished from their positions. Non-Muslims were forced to flee like Maimonides who would be considered the greatest Jewish thinker. The initial successes of Almoravids and Almohads were really for not with the Christian forces routing them in the end.
the greatest scientists of al andalus lived during the almohad era, such as Ibn rushd (averroes). he was literally sponsored by the almohad caliph who was interested in some aspects of greek philosophy.
To be fair the whole Averroes thing was personal, the caliph was insulted by a remark in Averroes book about animals where Averroes said he seen the giraffe in the garden of "the king of Berbers" and the caliph didn't like being called that instead of Caliph
@@I_hu85ghjo Averroes was born in 1126 in cordoba (thats a hundred years since the fall of the umayyads in spain), when it was part of the almoravid empire, and he died in 1198 in Marrakech, the capital of the almohad empire. So no, im not mixing the umayyads with almohads. i know the difference between the dynasties that ruled al andalus.

@@monacherkaoui9547 Islam saved Europe by invading Greece - that's why Greek knowledge was moved into mainland Europe - this is what sparked the Renaissance. Not really, Spain was a Phoenician coIony for thousands of years before the Iatin people inveded it. Infact Phoenicians and Cartage North Africans were similar people. You can say they took back what belongs to them, from the Roman/Iatin lnvadors.
Musa’s initial reconnaissance missions to Spain returned with reports of great splendors and beauty-both animate and inanimate-further whetting Muslim ambitions.§ During one of the subsequent raids in 710, the Muslims “made several inroads into the mainland, which produced a rich spoil and several captives, who were so handsome that Musa and his companions had never seen the like of them.”4 The feeling was not mutual. It appears that the westernmost people of Europe saw Islam’s newest converts, the Berbers, much the same way as the easternmost people of Europe saw Islam’s original converts, the Arabs: unfavorably. According to al-Maqqari’s chronicle, Whenever some of the scattered tribes of Berbers inhabiting along the northern coast of Africa happened to approach the sea shore, the fears and consternation of the Greeks* would increase, they would fly in all directions for fear of the threatened invasion, and their dread of the Berbers waxed so greatly that it was instilled into their nature, and became in after times a prominent feature in their character. On the other side, the Berbers having been made acquainted with this ill-will and hatred of the people of Andalus towards them, hated and envied them the more, this being in a certain measure the reason why even a long time afterwards a Berber could scarcely be found who did not most cordially hate an Andalusian [people of Spanish/Christian descent], and vice versa.5 Once on Spanish soil, the Islamized Berbers’ “cordial hate” manifested itself. Thus, during another early raid, a Berber chieftain “set fire to their houses and fields, and burnt also a church very much venerated amongst them. He then put to the sword such of its inhabitants as he met, and, making a few prisoners, returned safe to Africa.”6 Successful raids further bolstered dreams of wholesale conquest. By the end of April 711, Tarek was ready. At the head of “an army of seven thousand men, chiefly Berbers and slaves, very few only being genuine Arabs,"

Almoravid does not mean "united in the cause of God." Rather it is a mispronunciation of "Al Murabitun" and it means people of the Ribaat, it does not mean "united in the cause of God." Ribat means "fastness" "tie" "fortress" or "outpost" and refers to a spiritual and military outpost on the frontiers of Islamic lands. Such outposts were spiritual epicenters / anchor points in North Africa and the Murabitun (Almoravid) movement happened coalesced around them. The Almoravids referred to themselves as Murabitun. If Spain had remained Muslim, then Europe would have to fight on two fronts. The ottoman empire in the east and the Al Andalus in the west. The battle of Lepanto had considerable Spanish help, without it, the ottomans would've been victorious and the two could've formed an alliance to attack Italy in a two pronged attack.

Religion is used to recruit fighters; always has and always will. Crusades, reconquesta, the 711 conquest of Iberia - all were to get more land.

The flaw in studying history is that we sometimes read its pages to read the news of victories and defeats, and news of births and deaths. But history is another thing behind this phenomenon, which is to know what introductions were organized until they ended in victory or defeat. And this is a divine law that continues in the conflict of human beings and civilizations.
I found a somewhat serious mistake at 21:10. Santarém was attacked but not captured by the Almohads in 1190. And silves was only recaptured in the campaign in the following year. Anyway, big admirer of Hikma’s videos! Love to learn with him.
Also it was not Santarém (then Portugal’s second or third largest city) which was destroyed but instead small castle that al-Bayyam al Mughrib calls al-Funj, which is interpreted as modern-day coruche.

@@HikmaHistory thx for clarifying. Appreciate it
Al Andalus occupies a special place in Islamic history and folklore. It is looked at with wonder and sorrow as well because Muslims were eventually ethnically cleansed from the region after the reconquista.
In his poem, Tarana-e-Milli (Song Of The Community), the great Urdu literattaeur Allama Iqbal makes a reference to Muslim Spain:
"Ay gulsitaan e andalus! Wo din haiN yaad tujh ko.
Thaa teri DaaliyoN par jab aashiyaaN hamaara."
Translation: O garden of Andalus, you will remember those days.
When our abode was a nest on your branches."
Iqbal also indirectly referred to Andalus in his classic Shikwa.
Such horrible old days 💀

But they are not official languages in Morocco and no one speaks them at home or in the street, we have only two official languages (Arabic and Tamazight/berber)
But our daily language is Moroccan Darija, spoken by about 60% of Moroccans (which is a mixture of Arabic and Berber) and our language is considered the most difficult Arabic dialect, so that the Arabs of the Middle East don't understand us until they say that we are not Arabs(and in fact they have a right , we are not arab , we are moorish berber )
Our other language is Tamazight/berber spoken by about 40% of Moroccans، it is our original native language, and it has not become extinct. Millions of Moroccans still speak it in three dialects (Soussi berber/Rifien berber/Atlasi berber), and we still speak it, even though it is fading day after day in favor of Moroccan Darija

According to al-Maqqari’s chronicle,
Whenever some of the scattered tribes of Berbers inhabiting along the northern coast of Africa happened to approach the sea shore, the fears and consternation of the Greeks* would increase, they would fly in all directions for fear of the threatened invasion, and their dread of the Berbers waxed so greatly that it was instilled into their nature, and became in after times a prominent feature in their character.

Thank Mehmed II for liberating Istanbul from Christian occupation
@@ahrlj24Christian ocupation ? Constantinopla were Christian five centuries before Mohamed was born.
Everyday I thank God that they lost Iberia.
Every single day? Gotdang I gotta rate that consistency...
@@HikmaHistory Gotta rate the consistency of muslims succumbing to China everyday (Pakistan, Uighur, Taliban, etc).
But took Constantinople 💔
Constantinople is insignificant compared to the rest of the (new) world which they gained. And ultimately Ottoman was meeting its end.
Your welcome but thank God because he helped us
It was lost when the Arabs lost their identity and weren’t the leaders anymore. According to Ibn Khaldun
It was lost because they were beaten and kicked out by the indigenous Spanish and Portuguese

Muslims lost Spain and Portugal but they won Constantinople and the balkans to this day
@@Wakobear. but they brought economic and military power more than any islamic empire
SUCK IT CHRISTIANS
And Muslims can't even dictate China lol, on Uighur issue. Or doesn't have solidarity when China violated the territory of Malaysia and Indonesia.
There were no Portugal nor Spain at that time. These countries appeared much later after the Moors were expelled.
@@Ogeroigres There was no Morocco or Algeria either, you f**l.
Does the kingdoms of portugal and spain the 12th century allowed muslims to worship to allah in their kingdoms?
Nice synopsis only wish you explored the cooperation between the Muslims & Christians in fighting perceived enemies - both other Muslim taifas and Christian states. Religion, though presented as a black-and-white issue, is never that clear-cut. Wats are always fought over land - getting it,, holding it, and exploiting it. Religion is used to recruit fighters; always has and always will. Crusades, reconquesta, the 711 conquest of Iberia - all were to get more land.
The thing is that Spain has an amazing culture. And efforts by politicians to "teach" them by planting statues of Arabs in Cordoba and Anglo-Saxon revisions of Spanish history have passed them by
I’m sorry but your accent at the beginning made me think you said “autistic tradition” for a second and I was rolling
As a Moroccan Amazigh from where the Almohads came from, that's one of the saddest period of our history...
Not really the Almohads did nothing for us Berbers and brought the Banu hilal to western Morocco
@@Revitalization4241 wait what ? isn't it the fatimids who did that ?
Perhaps getting colonized by foreigers from Arabia with their foreign language and religion was the saddest point in your history?
Amazigh lost their religion and identities.. to Arab invasion.

You guys had the keys of Europe as lords, but you lost everything because of division.
Division is still plaguing the Arab and Islamic world with wars, coups.
@@majuscule8883 problem was we had to many berber kings instead of one leader in cordoba and we hated the arabs as rulers in northe africa and iberia

The Iberian Muslim Kingdoms peacefully coexisted with the Christian Kingdoms for a long time. The Almohads ruined this peaceful coexistence.
To be fair, the golden age ended after Castilla took Toledo, long before the Almohads came
It didn’t belong to you - Reality, slavery only ended in the land of Mecca in the 1960s - ISIS enslave the Yazidis now … Amazighs were also forcibly converted to Islam - Arabs, Ottomans, Tatars, Persians, and other Muslim groups all enslaved from Iberia to Russia … Islamists to the PC re-write history … but slavery ending in the land of Mecca in the 1960s because of international pressure sums it up!
This was supposed to be a video about reconquista but, most of it was about how Muslim won this and that. Reconquista part of it was summarized in few seconds. Looks like it's hard for him to talk about it. 😂
