    Thanks alot, Sir. I think that's why I cant play better, I just keep thinking "Was I good enough?" or "Now can I play any song?", I dont really enjoy my performance I guess. I will do my best now and improve my skill.

      You're welcome Putri! Sounds like you got through the entire video. :-) Don't forget, enjoying the performance is conditional. You have to "care" when you are practicing before you can "not care" in the performance. Glad to hear you are thinking this stuff through.

    Great stuff. After returning to Trumpet after 46 years departure, I can say this is spot on. In other areas of my life’s pursuits the “decision” to care and be perfect in practice is the hallmark of all the greats in all endeavors. There has to be an intolerance for anything but your best at all times, and a focus on what’s right and working so you become an expert on success.

      Right! You are correct, this is not just a music thing. It's unfortunate that our culture today does not celebrate this kind of thinking anymore. At least not here in the USA. A lot of the old world values have been "replaced" with new values that do not have truth behind them.

      You're welcome! Good! That's what this video is for. I'm glad you are inspired to practice better. Learning how to practice will take you so much farther than any amount of "passion". A lot of people think it takes passion to succeed, but someone who knows how to practice will always do better than someone with a lot of passion but no practice skills.

    If your practice goes well you will approach your performance with confidence and do your basics well. Do you agree

    • @eltigredo
      @eltigredo  11 месяцев назад

      I wish it was that simple. You are correct that confidence is the usual result. But for some people their lack of confidence is rooted in something other than their preparation. I have had a lot of students during my forty-four years of teaching who became very nervous in performance even though they invested the time and held a high standard.
      In fact, sometimes their high standards are the root of their lack of confidence. This is the bitter irony of many would be great trumpet players.

    Could you make a video on how to properly breath while playing trumpet?

      Sure. I put it on my to-do list. I'll let you know when I publish it.

    I would like to be good player, it takes alot of work!

    • @eltigredo
      @eltigredo  2 года назад +1

      Yes, it does take a lot of work, but it's a mistake to believe that work alone can get you there. If you play terrible in your practice sessions, then you will always play terrible and there is no amount of practice time that will fix that. The idea that people can jump into the music, make a bunch of mistakes, and then fix those mistakes later is not a working method. No matter how much time you spend practicing, that will always be a problem.

    Hey Mr. Lewis! I am a new subscriber of your videos. I am a 7th grade cornet/trumpet player that recently tried out for my district's 7th and 8th grade auditions and I failed. I have region auditions coming up and I hope that you could give me some tips on what to do to succeed. I will watch this video but I hope that either in a video or in a reaction to this comment tell me what to do. Thanks and have a great day!

      How long do you have before your region audition? I can give you general tips, but without knowing more about where you are in your development, I can’t really give you any precise advice. Let me know more about what you are struggling with and what you think is holding you back.

      Hey Mr. Lewis! The TMEA middle school phase 1 region 30 region auditions are in 16 days. My main problems are tone quality, tension, and range. I am going to take private lessons, but I would love to receive some tips from you. Thanks and have a great day.

      Sorry if too many comments showed up. It was just a mistake.

    • @eltigredo
      @eltigredo  5 лет назад

      Okay, thanks for answering my question. Having only 16 days to work with offers a tricky question for me to answer. While there are things you can do for tone, tension and range, in the short term, the long term solutions are always best. But I will do what I can. I'll try to put a video together for you in the next few days. --No Promises!!!-- I am pretty busy right now, but I will do what I can. Ha! The most difficult part is thinking what to tell you. It really is a great question, something that a lot of people would probably like to know. What do you do when there isn't much time???? Thanks for the suggestion.
