I understand many people think their later stuff is lacking, and other than some of the hits I can agree on the slip, but year zero is one of the most brilliant concept albums of all time. Trent evolves in such a perfect way, the aggression we need is always there even if taken in different ways. I mean, how do you fucking compose something like this? seriously? fucking love you Trent, I really hope you know many lives you've saved. don't be humble, you truly are a Savior

First song I heard from NIN was "Wish" off the Broken EP in 1994. I was 13yrs old. ☺Fell in love with the amazing barrage of sounds I was hearing immediately. So I'm fu€king 39 now and love NIN just as much if not more. You have to appreciate the originality and huge catalog put out over the years. You can't replicate what they've done. Reznor is one of the most creative musicians ever, hand down. And how he produces his music, using all those crazy synthesizers and rare, unheard of oddities to make a song is absolutely amazing. And you can't fail to mention all the work he and Atticus Ross have done. Like the Social Network soundtrack. Ok I'm done basically being a "fan boy"now. Lol.😆

After hearing Pretty Hate Machine and then The Downward Spiral when I was 14 I was in love with that sound but I was slowly seduced by big beat and drum and bass. I missed a few albums, came back briefly, then went away, but I'm back in the NIN love camp to stay. I missed some of NIN's greatness as it happened but it is fun to go digging to find the lost treasures.
for me (my humble opinion) Year Zero is the pinnacle of NIN...the end of a long road that had to land this way.....under appreciated and looked over, imo this album is gonna be the one that musicologists cite as the culmination of Trent's sound

My sister bought the cd Pretty Hate Machine right when it was released and all the songs were on repeat through the debauchery of drinking all night and falling asleep with the hand on play . Been a fan since to this man .

@alias302 its a very funny statement to say Depeche took from NIN considering the fact that depeche pioneered part of the electronic / industrial movement. Many depeche songs that have industrial qualities were written while Reznor was still a school kid. nonetheless, this song is fantastic.

My mistake, market. I take that back, I didn't know that you were new to NIN. I've seen the band with 3 bassists - Danny Lohner, Jeordie and now Justin. They are all capable - but you're right, I prefer Justin over jeordie. He gives the songs a bit more flavour. I'm going to the NYC and LA shows (waiting for Chicago) but I think you'll have a great time, trust me.

I went to one of his shows on this tour. It was the best show I've been to. I got seats right up front and it was pretty cheap too, only like $45 or so. WAY better than wasting hundreds of dollars to see the Rolling Stones live.
