    Thanks for sharing and explaining your keepers and rejects, always a tough decision!
    My favourite dahlia this season was Labyrinth, absolutely loved the colour variation and very prolific!!
    Added bonus was it makes a gorgeous dried flower🤩

      Kenora Mac B and Lindsay Michelle also look stunning when dried. It's hard to believe such large flowers would dry so beautifully.

    I have never heard of Papa Gino. That dahlia looks like Papageno (papa GAY no) that i grew and loved. Check out Mozart’s The Magic Flute for the duet ‘Papageno.’ I enjoyed your video and your dahlias. Thanks!

      It is Papageno, now I know how to say it. That said, old habits take a while to break so I might call it wrong for a bit before I smarten up🙂🙃🙂 I said Edinburgh wrong for a while too, until a Scottish friend laughed at me. Then there was allium......I should learn to google pronunciation more often.
      Thanks for letting me know, I am more than happy to be corrected.🌺

    I garden in 5b Colorado and for me, tartan is a prolific bloomer. funny how that can be.

      I think you get hotter than us in the summer with far less humidity - even with the long, extended, dry heat wave we had and are still having this year. That might be a reason Tartan likes it better there.

    We are having your rain. We want our sun back!
    I have dahlias still in bud and because I bought a mixed bag, I have no clue what they are. The slugs and snails are loving them just as they are - green. :)
    Thank you Evelyn for the video, your bouquets are so pretty!

      And I wouldn't mind a bit more rain. If the unknown dahlias bloom, you can often figure out what they are through google images
      We have a lot of slugs on the west coast. I reduce their impact by not watering in the evening, they don't like the dry evening soil and since neighbours like to water in the evening, the slugs hang out there, also our large bird populaton take care of the 1,000s of baby slugs in the spring - along with a lot of the weed seeds.
      I'm glad you like my bouquets, and thank you so much for being one of my earliest subs, and also taking the time to leave comments on most of my videos, I really do appreciate it.

    Thank you Evelyn! I don't need to Google it - I have you. :)
    I bought a mixed bag of dinner plate dahlias;
    I think I have the same Yellow one that you have as well as the Pink one with short stems.
    The other two have red stems and I'm hoping it's a red one.
    The rain;
    This is the first year that I can remember having a green lawn in August.

      Even in our normal "wet" climate, green lawns are not natural in August! At least not until the fourth week of August which usually rains steadily, stopping just after labour day for a couple of weeks.

    Do earwigs bother your dahlias? They’re stunning😊

    • @EvelynM-vlogs
      @EvelynM-vlogs  6 месяцев назад +1

      I do get earwigs in my dahlias, but they don't bother or eat them. I have no idea why, except maybe the brix factor in the soil is perfect to high, keeping the plants from being stressed. This in turn means the clicking sound plants emit is not elevated, making the unstressed flowers unappealing to the earwigs. That all sounds very hoite toite but it really is the only thing I can think of for them not touching the flowers other than to hide in them.

    Hey there,
    How many days do your large dinner plates last in a vase?

    • @EvelynM-vlogs
      @EvelynM-vlogs  10 месяцев назад

      Hi Lisa, depending on where they are kept, they can get up to a week. We do water our dahlias a lot, this helps with their vase life. If the temps are over 20deg. celsius, they get watered twice a day. If over 30deg. celsius, they get watered 3x a day. They go directly into water when cut and if I have to carry them to the water bucket, I carry them upside down. Hydration is the most important thing that you can do to keep your dahlias happy and healthy once cut. I also never cut old ones, that's not an issue as I only have 160 dahlia plants.

    Where do you garden? I'm in 8b in Oregon. Great video! 👍Do you have an Instagram page?

      I garden in Campbell River, which is on Vancouver Island, off the coast of BC, Canada. Our climate is milder than most people think, because we get the warm ocean currents coming up from Hawaii in the winter. No instagram, or facebook, or anything other than RUclips. My city is small, with only a 34,000+ population It basically operates best with word of mouth.
      Glad you enjoyed the video!
