The lack of high scores, goes to show how much more difficult it is to succeed at these professional oil patterns, which demands a lot more precison. One ball can go high, while a single board adjustment right can gutter ball.
It’s a split where the lighter the ball, the better the chance to make it, because it’s more likely to deflect off the 2 and then hit the 4 on the left to take out the 8.
@@wecontrolthevideo okay, well it isn't like it was a light ball okay! is wasn't a small 8 pound, it was a 13 pound so there is no need to make that comment
Great conversions under the tv lights but the ones with the head pin arent technically splits. They're washouts. I know, I'm splitting hairs. Oh, and yes, pun intended
i think it means u would have to split the pins like, in half, where that would mean (using a whole rack) include taking out the head pin, which is why with out the head pin its called a split but with the head pin classafied as something diffrent
True MOTIVATION... Sean lavery-spar's 8 .. 10 spare was spare of the year..... No one has ever done that on TV before... That I can remember in 47 yrs..
I saw it live, it was incredible. I was just behind them up towards the back. He had another 10 pin earlier bounce on a spare. Never seen it before that day...still waiting to see a 7-10 pick up.
Technically, going for the 8 should yield a higher percentage. You'd have to hit the 8 pin on the left side on a perfect tangent line to slide it over to the 10. But honestly, just throwing it at one as hard as possible and hoping for a lucky bounce is probably best, because getting one guaranteed pin is better than potentially missing both trying to get the perfect tangent line.

I’ve converted a few splits in my 10+ yrs bowling. The 4,7,10, 4,10, 6,7, 3,7,10 8,10, 2,7,10, 5,6,10, 4,5,7, 5,7 and the 5,10. Never converted the 7,10.
5-10, 5-7, 9-10, 8-9-10, 4-5-7, 4-9, 3-4-6-7-10, 2-4-6-10, 4-5, 3-6-7-10, 3-10, 3-9-10, 2-7, and 2-7-8. Technically, I’ve picked up the 6-7-10. I was going for the 6-7-9-10 and got all but the 9. I’ve also hypothetically gotten the 4-10. Had the 10 been standing, I would’ve had it. I’ve also hypothetically converted the 4-6
So, to recap, the 2 4 8 10 was made more than 4 TIMES in this one year. One by E.J Tackett, and the other 3 were made during the week of wsob. One by Ronnie Russell, and the other 2 were done in the SAME HOUR during the scorpion championship by Kris Prather and Billy O
I managed to pick up the 6-7-10 in a high school state bowling tournament. Normally my "strike ball" I line up on the approach in a direct line with the 2nd arrow (I'm a right hander) . Pretty standard shot. When I left this split one of the guys on the team told me to "stand all the way over the left, aim at the 2nd arrow on the right and just throw your normal shot". I'm thinking "no way it will stay out of the channel" Sure enough, I throw it, it curves perfectly, with about 2 boards to spare and slides the 6 over to the 7 and the ball takes out the 10. FYI, my ball then (and still is) a Galaxy 2000 plastic ball. So no fancy reactive urathane.
Does anyone know what weight of ball Tackett uses? He easily lobs the ball out there a ways so I cannot see it being close to being a 16 pounder. I guess his spare ball is lighter. He appears to have good control and revs for a lightweight player throwing a heavy ball.
Thanks. Anyways, that was a freaky 2-4-8-10 split conversion he made considering his ball went to the 6th board before breaking back across, and the angle it hit the 2 pin that still was able to take out the 10 was unbelievable if you look at it closely.
the 2-4-8-10 is so hard because you have NO idea where those pins are going to deflect. (but, if you can hook it with his speed, prol a little easier 😉) impressive af
Some of these were not splits & not that difficult for accomplished bowlers. Others, like the 2-4-8-10, 3-4-6-7-10 and 8--10 splits are very difficult. Amazing conversions there.
Im a 5 pin bowler up here in canada, this year i bowled in my first major qualifier for the Canadian Open, but for some reason i rather watch 10 pin bowling, i would of done 10 pin for league and such, but no 10 pin lanes near me, but the tournament i placed 30/32 male bowlers, with a 239 average
I once had the weirdest split, but it's not really a split. When I was delivering, the person on the next lane also delivered (rude) and I tried to stop my delivery and retry, but the ball slipped and became a gutterball. Then for some reason, the machine failed to detect the headpin and recorded that as "1 split". I then picked the 10 pin spare.
U know the difference is having exp working on pinsetterd during these tournaments the curtain is down and swinging in regular bowling they are not so I'm not saying it happens all the time but if the pin hit the curtain the pins will come back onto the deck I've seen it done and sometimes the pins will be flying down the lane back to you

Amazing shot. It wouldn't work without the 4 taking out the 8, and to throw the shot with that much hook on it makes it all the more impressive.
There haven't been a whole lot of high scores on the TV finals this year. But, these spilt conversations make up for it. Insane!
