    You can divide the shape of the surface failure into 4 zones:
    First: a triangular zone directly under the footing and this zone will push down during the failure.
    Second: the second zone will be pressed by the first zone which will make it move under and to the side way. The same will happen to the zone 3 which will move to side and upward. That’s mean the general shear failure occurs by sliding.
    This video we lead us to talk about the local shear and then we will use the zone shape to calculate the ultimate bearing capacity and after that we will entertain the effect of the ground water-table on the foundation.
