Gospel and "arrivederci" with some musical fireworks
The traditional gospel concert in SS.Pietro e Paolo will be the first highlight of the day, with a choir of over 30 members, the Castagnole Community Choir (Chiesa Papio, 5 pm)
The festival's educational partner, SMUM School of Modern Music, will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a concert given by a quintet of teachers, including guitarist Giorgio Meuwly (whose original compositions will be heard) and saxophonist Gabriele Comeglio (Take Eat Easy, 18.30-20.00).
On the New Orleans Stage (20:00 - 21:30) the second, eagerly awaited concert by the Swiss Armed Forces Big Band feat. Wayne Bergeron, followed by Eliza Sonnenschein & The Sunshine Avenue Band, one of the audience's favourite New Orleans bands (Stage Elvezia, 21:00 - 22:00), the powerful funk-soul of Tom McGuire & The Brassholes (Stage Chiesa, 22:00 - 23:30) and from 22:00. 30 pm on Stage New Orleans, the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra will be awarded the Ascona Jazz Award 2024 for its great contribution to the festival’s development as well as the realisation of the official sister cities agreement between New Orleans and Ascona.
Meanwhile, on Stage Elvezia (from 11.30 pm to 1 am), people will be dancing with the Elevations, the spectacular formation of Neal Sugarman, saxophonist and founder of Dapton Records, one of the leading figures of the soul revival of the last twenty years.
