Australia federal budget 2024: Jim Chalmers says priority is cost-of-living help in budget speech

Along with changes to the stage-three tax cuts legislated in February, the budget included new energy bill relief and assistance for people struggling to pay rent. Chalmers delivered the first back-to-back surplus, projected to be $9.3bn this time, since the global financial crisis in 2007-08
