  • We booked a guarantee balcony cabin on the P&O Iona Cruise Ship for our section in August 2021 and were allocated accessible Cabin 12514. In this video we show you exactly what this cabin has to offer including the exceptionally large balcony. Looking at the Iona deck plans it is this cabin and 11514 that have the largest standard balconies on this ship.

    What an incredibly useful overview of an accessible cabin. We are booked on a cruise on Iona in 2022 and we booked 12514. Imagine our surprise at getting to see everything our cabin offered in your video tour. We were starting to worry about space for a scooter and the layout of the cabin and bathroom but you have put our minds at rest. Thanks guys. Happy cruising!

    Excellent video showing all the accessible features of the cabin. When looking for accessible accommodation for my brother in law we often had to rely on word of mouth or photos and were often disappointed when we arrived. Manoeuvring the wheelchair was often difficult. He's past travelling now but your video would have been perfect. I'm sure others will find it invaluable. The spacious balcony is a bonus.

      A little more thought would of been better eg mirror in bathroom is a bit high and carpeted floors are the easiest when using a wheelchair. Good to see however the considerations although accessibility should be standard in all areas 😊

    We are booked on Iona in March 2022, in a seaview accessible cabin. It's great to see that they have really given some thought to their less mobile guests. Door bells, push pads, gadgets in wardrobes and a great wet room.

    Very good tour and excellent equipment too. As for the vibrating for door bell thingy on the bed.....oooh eeeer !!! (Never knew a door bell could be so much fun) Joking apart they are very useful, my dad had one in his bedroom, you can get them hooked up to smoke detectors too, I'm sure that one was also. This cabin really gives you a sense of security and practicality, it's very reassuring to know if you require such a cabin. I'm so impressed. Thank you for sharing this with the community. Thank you so much for sharing this video! We've just come off the Disney Magic and stayed in an accessible cabin, which is not a patch on this cabin on the Iona! Because of the larger bathroom, and slightly larger floor space, they decided to sacrifice storage space. We had half a wardrobe for the two of us for a 6-night (3n B2B) cruise, which only had the lower rail, so we had to make use of the magnetic hooks we bought and hung all of my dresses, etc. from the ceiling! Then there were only a couple of shelves for us to use, which meant that we had to use space on the sofa, rending that useless for the whole cruise! Perhaps it was just that particular cabin, and it made us paranoid for our P&O cruise booked for Sept 2022 on the Iona. But now, seeing this, my mind is put firmly at rest! We've got a slightly different cabin number on a different deck, but if this cabin is anything to go by, then we'll be okay! Thanks once again for your videos, and especially this one!

    • @PaulandCaroleLovetoTravel
      @PaulandCaroleLovetoTravel  2 года назад

      Glad it has put your mind at ease! Think Disney need a rethink with their accessible cabins, not good! You will be fine on Iona cabin wise. We really enjoyed our time on board so hope you do too. We have an Iona vlog series starting soon!

      @@PaulandCaroleLovetoTravel Disney really do. I know the Magic is one of their older ships, but there were various issues for me, with ramps and uneven entry/exits about the ship. Will look forward to the Iona vlog series :)

      @michelle ordever not sticking up for Disney magic in the slightest but it’s a very old ship that needs updating they bought it back for travelling this year but it needs a lot of updating as disabled rules have changed since that ship was built the likes of Iona are going to be good because they brand new ships we stay In accessible cabins as my hubby is wheelchair bound my one complaint with every cruise ship is the low number of accessible cabins on there ships as they make there ships very disabled friendly but don’t have enough accessible cabins there are 25 on Iona 21 on anthem and 16 on independence of the seas I have never been on Disney, Mcl or princess so not sure on those numbers but I do know there will be not enough I have been known to have to book 18 months in advance to make sure we get an accessible cabin

    • @PurplePumpkin
      @PurplePumpkin 2 года назад +1

      @@wendygeorge I know that the Magic is the oldest in the fleet, (I thought I'd mentioned it in my original comment, but didn't!) so I do understand that part. Although the lack of storage was ridiculous. I believe there are just 8 accessible rooms on the Magic - if that is true, then that is ridiculous :( Knowing that other newer ships have a limited amount of accessible cabins gives me a heads up for future cruises - thank you x

      That’s a shame your cabin on magic wasn’t great. Our accessible cabin on Disney Magic was incredible! A lot of storage, and the most enormous balcony. I found accessibility around the ship more than ok with spaces for wheelchairs in cinema and theatre. The lifts were a little small but plenty of them fortunately! There are at least 16 accessible cabins on magic (from memory,) so fairly comparable to other ships, I also wish there were more!

      It is very useful to know if the moveable handrail on the side of the toilet locks in the up position. My wife would need it to be lockable in the up position because she can only use her left arm and she would use it to hold on to to assist standing up from her wheelchair. She couldn’t get close enough to the toilet with her wheelchair with the handrail folded down. A lot just fold up out of the way and if you pull it, it just folds down - this would be no good for my wife, we’d need an opposite handed cabin where the fixed handrail would be on her left hand side. A great video, thanks.
