Does anyone know why this ending was cut? It's honestly better. It couldn't be a right's issue, because this is the ending of Evil Dead II. I'm not sure if they had rights to Army of Darkness, but using the S-Mart ending from the final version means that they're actually using a scene from the movie. So, I guess the producers just didn't like a cliffhanger ending, or something.
hey, know I'm three years late, but like you said, the producers just didn't like a cliffhanger because non-evil-dead-familiar audiences found it confusing.
The show was originally "Evil Dead 1&2 the Musical" and this ending was based on the ending of ED2. When moved to Off Broadway, the show runners wanted to change the ending as it was very much...well "completely out of nowhere". So the song "Blew That Bitch Away" was added.
I liked this ending better than the main one that became the official one.
