The Weeknd getting snubbed is honestly worse than Macklemore winning over Kendrick. You could (falsely mind) argue that the hits off of The Heist were big enough to win the Best rap album but to receive no nominations or acknowledgment at all for hits that have topped the charts the entire year is just plain madness.
Funny how everyone expected Abel and Fiona to be nominated for album of the year and that there would be competition between those 2 and taylor. Seeing the nominations, it’s obvious the grammys cleared the way for Taylor to win AOTY because they want the “taylor makes grammys history being the first female to win AOTY 3 times” headlines 🙄🙄🙄
Remember MTV awards. Taylor winning director of the year so she can be the first female to win that award. Perfect example of how all these shows are rigged BS.
I really hoped that Rina Sawayama would get a nomination for XS or her LP, Bieber's record getting a nomination doesn't make sense, and a moment of silence for Igor once more... Thank you.
It’s confusing because I wouldve thought after hours would of been the perfect album for the Grammys to put into a a lot of categories and have the weekend winning a lot of awards especially with how the album arguably is the most successful this year as well as having the most successful record being blinding lights, easily on the biggest snubs of all time in Grammys just doesn’t make sense when you look at what has actually been nominated
this is insane. blinding lights/after hours literally TOOK OVER 2020. after hours is a great r&b album which ALSO includes an amazing storyline and visuals. it is mind boggling to me that he was not even nominated. but it’s ok, we knew the grammys were corrupt since cardi b won best rap album over mac and travis and macklemore won over kendrick. crazy.
He submitted to rnb, complained about being pigeonholed, got moved to pop by the committee, but then the pop voters either didn't like him or didn't know they could vote for him. Supposedly only 50-500 people vote for nominations, and up to 12000 vote for the winner.
I read online that the grammys didn't nominate him because they wanted Abel to preform at the grammys but he also had the Super Bowl halftime show 7 days after and it would have been very difficult for him to preform at both but after many meetings they finally agreed that he could preform at both but by that point the grammys were aggravated therefore they didn't nominate him for anything. This isn't conformed its just something I read in multiple different places and it also makes sense because of his most recent tweet about planning the performance.
whatever they want. People should stop acting like Grammy's matters in any way. Complain complain complain they didn't get their little fake gold trophy.
Yea they are being completely petty at this point. Fun fact: it’s hypocritical of them to do that since back in 2019 they gave best song and record of the year to Childish Gambino for This is America and he didn’t need to perform at the show.
@@gabrielaflorez4093 honestly it makes no sense. i think they're broadcasted on the same week and maybe 2 performances wouldn't be impactful and the superbowl one would get a lot more attention. it just sounds so petty, it's not like bliding lights would be the only song he would perform at the superbowl and that song being the huge hit that it is, people really wouldn't mind watching 2 performances of it. abel is also a great performer, he's been giving some of the best "quarantine" performances this year. or maybe they didn't want to give him too much airtime and made him choose between the two because cbs broadcasts both. but what dumbass woud chose the grammys over a halftime show performance? the grammy commitee think too highly of themselves lol.
The Weeknd and Lady Gaga got fully snubbed, Weeknd more than Gaga but how did the two biggest artists this year receive almost nothing? Justice for Chromatica and After Hours
@@keirazephyr509 Gaga and Rina deserved more, Taylor’s album isn’t even pop, SAWAYAMA deserved way more as well. Gaga definitely too she broke a ton of records with Chromatica and got 0 recognition...
Grammys have always been very much related to commercial success, as we can see from the nominees (even Yummy got nominated lmao). So it's weird that Blinding Lights, which was the biggest hit of the year and universally liked, didn't get a single nomination. After Hours was also top 5 biggest album this year and positively received. I was expecting him to WIN a major category but he didn't even get a nomination in a minor category lol. Baffling.
The problem is that it’s not even a bias we have coz we’re die hard XO, this is the biggest song of the year. The fastest selling album of the year. Probably his most rounded body of work. A character he created, a world he created, quality music videos. He ran 2020 commercially. I really thought he’d collect at least 2 this year but not even a nomination isnt just controversial or a different opinion, it’s wrong. It’s incorrect.
I really think that this snubb is the last nail on the coffin of the Grammy's relevancy. They have been struggling already. But this snubb turned to out to be a very big story this year. Abel is the biggest artist of this year if not the decade. This will turn to be a hard hit for them.
@@ghaithghazi6748 yeah... the problem is people like Justin beiber and Taylor swift have more fans than most other artists and will always get nominated regardless of what they drop. So it will never die. They probably snubbed Abel just to create media attention
I didn't even like the Weeknd before Blinding Lights. I was kinda surprised when I heard it. I can't deny it's greatness. Deserves formal recognition but ya know... it's the Grammys.
All the magazines and blogs predictions : the weeknd's After Hours will sweep at the 2021 Grammys Grammys committee : who's After Hours? We don't know her 😑
Not exactly a fan of The Weeknd but seeing him and especially Blinding Lights snubbed like THIS.. What the actual f*ck? The GRAMMYs are a complete joke at this point.
Unfortunately until artists start not giving a shit to grammy's (refusing the award, not even going to the show, etc) this shit will just keep on going because it makes no difference to them
They snubbed him bc they were in talks to have him perform at the grammys, but he chose to perform at the super bowl a week before, while still hoping to retain his billing for the grammys. Obviously this was unaccaptable for the grammys, as it would likely be a repeat performance and would garner much less attention, so they could no longer offer him the same deal. Abel and his team refused to accept a lower offer however, so talks between Abel and the Grammys ended on a very sour note. I understand the frustration the grammys feel, as Abel essentially just leveraged their offer only to leave them in the dust, but to have that reflect on their selection criteria only calls into question the integrity of the selection committee (which no one buys anyways).
I feel like Abel wouldn’t give in a rehashed performance tho, especially if he’s playing both SB and Grammys. Lots of people definitely aren’t watching the Grammys now bc of this
Blinding lights was literally the BIGGEST song of the year, the fact that it isn't nominated shows how much de Grammys are influenced by things beyond music. They're supposed to be simply awarding excellence in music, and letting politics and stupid drama cloud their judgement shows why people have lost all respect for them.
After Hours deserves Album of the Year, Blinding Lights deserves Record of the Year, and the people who didn’t nominate The Weeknd deserve the death penalty
I didn't love After Hours, but even I can see that this is a catastrophic snub. I also think Phoebe Bridgers got snubbed for AOTY, or just that in general AOTY needed some rock and rap inclusions. Yeah, an abnormally large number of head scratchers this year, after the past couple years when the Grammys seemed like they were starting to get their act together with Janelle Monae, Lizzo, etc.
Dude did you check out the Rock Performance category? And then looked at the Rock Albums category? I swear it seems like 2 completely separated set of people chose the nominations for each category, just insane how poor the grammy's have been doing (even to their own crappy standards(
Also no Fleet Foxes - Shore nomination, unless I'm missing it??... Also, if anyone wants an underrated beautiful album from this year, check out 'Beginners' by Christian Lee Hutson. Sublime album from front to back.
On top of this, the audiobook of Alex Trebek's memoir, narrated by himself and Ken Jennings, was nominated for Best Spoken Word Album, but only Jennings received the nom. Personally I think it should have been a joint thing (and Ken does too). Kinda funky shit going on with the Grandmas

People like Mac, Weeknd, Cole, Cudi don't make music for accolades/trophies. They make music that stands the test of time, that changes lives. Now we know why Ye was pissing on his Grammy. I mean Jimi Hendrix never won a Grammy, and we all know how iconic & legendary his impact is. So in the words of Doc Hudson in Cars, "Its just an empty cup at the end of the day".
Thank you for citing a cars quote
damn.
wise words, my man
I shed a tear at "It's just an empty cup at the end of the day"
It honestly doesn’t make sense they’re known for being people pleasers but snub one of the most acclaimed albums of the year I am confused
you'd think making what is arguably the most ubiquitous song of 2020 would warrant at least one grammy nomination.
Completely agree with this, also think that Run the Jewels deserved some recognition for RTJ4.
Putting a D Smoke album instead of RTJ4 is just disrespectful
he is literally the #1 artist on spotify and his song blinding lights is still getting radio play wtf
Imagine making one of the best albums of the year and getting snubbed because he’d rather perform at the biggest televised event in the U.S.
Imagine actually giving one fuck about someone’s ego-stroking pomp and circumstance

Fighting? He started crying on social media. Wouldn't call that fighting.
He was blinded by the lights

The Weeknd getting snubbed is honestly worse than Macklemore winning over Kendrick. You could (falsely mind) argue that the hits off of The Heist were big enough to win the Best rap album but to receive no nominations or acknowledgment at all for hits that have topped the charts the entire year is just plain madness.
It’s worse because Kendrick at least had a chance at winning
@@vitamind5710 nah bc The Weeknd still doesn’t deserve to win lol, he probably deserves the nomination but not the award

Two years later and it's still utterly mindboggling how this albums and Blinding Lights were snubbed
Agreed, it’s tragic.
The fact that Yummy has been nominated and not Blinding Lights is the biggest act of terrorism this decade

I mean at least she could’ve been nominated for best new artist. How did Kaytranada got nominated for this? He has been relevant for years.
I did as well - her album is amazing!
Dude The Weeknd deserved song, album and artist of the Year wtf
this is insane. blinding lights/after hours literally TOOK OVER 2020. after hours is a great r&b album which ALSO includes an amazing storyline and visuals. it is mind boggling to me that he was not even nominated. but it’s ok, we knew the grammys were corrupt since cardi b won best rap album over mac and travis and macklemore won over kendrick. crazy.
Facts
After Hours is NOT JUST AN R&B ALBUM. If a white man recorded After Hours, it would 100% be considered a POP ALBUM
He submitted to rnb, complained about being pigeonholed, got moved to pop by the committee, but then the pop voters either didn't like him or didn't know they could vote for him. Supposedly only 50-500 people vote for nominations, and up to 12000 vote for the winner.
!!!!!!!
wahhh wahhh a super popular r&b pop artist didn't get a piece of faux gold. He has it so hard
It’s the fact the yummy got a nomination and blinding lights didn’t lol
Yes. It’s absolutely disgusting. There are plenty of deserving people nominated, and blinding lights should’ve been one of them.
If that's true it just shows how biased the Grammys are. They don't actually care about awarding for quality it's a scam :/
Not just The Weeknd, pretty much all the big artists of this year were snubbed out of their awards
Glad to know that I wasnt the only one hoping that Rina Sawayama should have got a nomination , her album is a masterpiece!
Crazy to me that Post Malone's Circles got nominated but not Mac Miller's

They literally didn’t nominate him bcuz he chose to perform at the Super Bowl

Baffling.
Yeah, you may not like Abel's music, but you can't say, that he didn't succeed this year
The problem is that it’s not even a bias we have coz we’re die hard XO, this is the biggest song of the year.

They probably snubbed Abel just to create media attention

ahhh some fantano video while eating breakfast cos it's freakin 6am here in the philippines.
they somehow get it wrong every year and everyone complains about the snubs and the grammys just don’t care and do the same thing the next year
Unfortunately until artists start not giving a shit to grammy's (refusing the award, not even going to the show, etc) this shit will just keep on going because it makes no difference to them
They snubbed him bc they were in talks to have him perform at the grammys, but he chose to perform at the super bowl a week before, while still hoping to retain his billing for the grammys.
Mac and The Weeknd are the ones that shock me the most
After Hours deserves Album of the Year, Blinding Lights deserves Record of the Year, and the people who didn’t nominate The Weeknd deserve the death penalty
Exactly lol. When you even have people who aren't even fond of the work themselves agree that it was snubbed you know it was bad ..
Dude did you check out the Rock Performance category? And then looked at the Rock Albums category? I swear it seems like 2 completely separated set of people chose the nominations for each category, just insane how poor the grammy's have been doing (even to their own crappy standards(
