Gauff's ability to anticipate where Sabalenka's shots were going and her ability to keep the rally alive won the day.
Sabalenka didn't help herself by hitting any number of shots direct at Gauff or by telegraphing where a shot was going.
At this level when you get an opportunity to put the ball away you have to take it.
Sabalenka failed on numerous occasions to do so.
Slow conditions favored Gauff but she deserved to win regardless.

Aryna is so hard and judgmental with herself, she was not terrible, a true warrior is tenacious and adaptable, and even with bad conditions (wind, cold, whatever) should be able to adapt and thrive. That´s why Coco won. Everytime Aryna loose she complain, she justifies herself, and she is No.1 , sometimes you win and sometimes you loose, it´s like that! She needs some psychological help to learn to be more humble and compassionate with herself. She played a great final, but Coco was more tenacious and adaptable to match conditions.

Here's what the ever gracious Sabalenka had to say about the match. She couldn't bring herself to praise Gauff's performance. According to Sabalenka, Gauff only won because she (Sabalenka) had played poorly.
    Sabalenka:
“Honestly, guys, this will hurt so much, especially after such a tough two weeks, playing great tennis and in these terrible conditions playing such terrible tennis in the final - that really hurts.” "Conditions were terrible, and she simply was better in these conditions than me. I think it was the worst final I ever played.”
Given the chance to praise Gauff’s inspired defensive showing, Sabalenka said her opponent had won the match “by running and playing those high balls from the frame,” before saying directly that Gauff had framed, or mishit, numerous shots.
“She was hitting the ball from the frame. Somehow, magically, the ball lands in the court. It felt like a joke, like somebody from above was just staying there laughing, like, ‘Let’s see if you can handle this.’
“She won the match not because she played incredible, just because I made all of those mistakes, from if you look from the outside, from easy balls.”
