I am a fan of these guys, back when Heritage came out I enjoyed it straight away as well as the subsequent albums. I like where they're going with the new record, it's very jam packed with little things and think it unravels more and more with each listen, it's very fun to put the vinyl on and read the testament as it plays, looking at the artwork etc. I'm happy with it, *HEEEY!*
I love this album but it definitely takes a few spins to get to grips with it all. Anyway, this is my favourite Opeth album since Ghost Reveries, and probably my AOTY!
Checking this out later, my guess is TVFish loves it and Vile isn't a big fan, he typically doesn't vibe with progressive stuff from the reviews I've seen. That said -- This is my favorite album of the year and I'll be interested in checking your reviews out after work here
comments as I make my way through the video: 1. Michael and Fredrik both have featured on Ghost albums, Michael on Helvenstoter on Prequelle, and Fredrick did all of the guitar tracking on Impera. Opeth influence on Ghost imo is evident but vice versa too. 2. As for "Diversification of vocals" I haven't hear a single person talk about S5 at 4:10 yet. That harsh delivery is SUPERB, and easily my favorite harsh on the album. That harsh and vocal flow is so "Oldpeth" (god I hate that term lol) 3. S6 is a SOTY contender for me, my top 3 songs of the year are EASILY Mute by Caligula's Horse, Grinding Wheels of the Ophanim by Job For a Cowboy and now S6 by Opeth. Glad TVfish really enjoyed that one as well.
"§" this symbol is in swedish probably like in german called a "paragraph". Wikipedia: While § is usually read in spoken English as the word "section", many other languages use the word "paragraph" exclusively to refer to a section of a document (especially of legal text), and use other words to describe a paragraph in the English sense. Consequently, in those cases "§" may be read as "paragraph", and may occasionally also be described as a "paragraph sign", but this is a description of its usage, not a formal name.
Today i listened back to some ghost reveries and there were songs that just made me cry. There are some songs on ghost reveries, still life, watershed, that just are like that. The new album is just too new to do something like this to me. So i can't really rank it yet within their discography.
I liked this one a lot after a couple listens. Mikael said section 1 was the first song he wrote on the album and 5 the last and to me it shows. Section 5 is the strongest track on the album and already a classic for me which makes me excited to see what they do next. You can just see how much more comfortable the band was as the album went on. Overall, I really like it but it's not quite on the level of some of their classics. It fits somwhere below the Still Life, Ghost Reveries, MorningRise, and Blackwater Park. Probably tied for 5th or 6th with My Arms, Watershed and Deliverance. That's still really good because I adore those albums.
Haha, so close yet again to adding another album to the coveted list. It's interesting that there's only been one album released this year that's gotten Two Toe Tags since I personally think 2024 has been stronger than 2023 when it comes to metal.
It's a great album, not a bad song on it, favourite tracks, paragraph,4,5,& 6. Still doesn't beat, watershed or ,pale communion for me though, yet anyway.

One of their best albums for sure.
Seeing Opeth a couple months ago blew my mind. Best show I’ve ever been to and I’ve been to hundreds of shows……. Love opeth

I'll forever be stuck on Still Life, Blackwater Park, and Watershed, but this album was a welcome change after the last few.
AOTY for me, hands down. The songs, the production, the flow. Growls bring back makes me so happy too, blending Oldpeth and Newpeth. Love it.

This album is a little schizophrenic. Seems like an album that will grow on people over time.
