Fraser Island's Secret Boat Ramp

- There's NO Public Boat Ramps on Fraser Island... So They Say.
Located just off the east coast of Australia is Fraser Island, the world’s largest sand island. Every year it attracts thousands of visitors.
But despite the 300km of coastline, there’s apparently no public boat ramps on Fraser Island. Not a single one. None whatsoever.
I checked all the official websites & maps and they consistently state that there are no boat ramps on Fraser island.
So if you want to launch your boat your jet ski, instead of safely driving down a concrete boat ramp you have to risk a beach launch, reversing your trailer directly through soft sand hoping you don’t get bogged.
But surely with over 300km of coastline there’s a secret boat ramp somewhere. How could a island this big and so close to the mainland not have a proper boat ramp.
I’d heard rumours of an old ramp somewhere on the south west corner of the island but no one had personally been there and there was nothing noted on any map I could find.
So perhaps they were mistaken but then I took a look a closer look at some satellite images? Could this shadow be evidence of a secret boat ramp or is it perhaps just a rocky beach?
Well I decided to find out for myself and put all the rumours to rest.
Conditions were great as I crossed over from the mainland. But from the middle of the channel there was no sign of any boat ramp.
Upon reaching the southern tip of the island, I cruised north up the west coast, hoping to identify what I had seen on the satellite images.
After a few kilometres, I found it.

@@JetSkiCamping I’m from Delaware USA, we have the Delaware and Maryland bays that are no comparison to Fraser Island but I have been to the Florida Keys that are similar. I have a Sea doo rxt 300 that we enjoy fishing, tubing, wake boarding and just cruising to battery island Chesapeake MD. Thanks for the great content from around the world that so many people really appreciate!

Yeah but that's a barge landing. It is closed to the public.

Yeah going to launch from urangun and shoot up to wathumba. Hopefully get there for black marlin season 🤞
Beddy they’ve already started so should be a good season 🤞 awesome camp spot in Wathumba. I’ve done it a few times in my Tinnie. Doing the bottom end solo this time round late October Kauri Creek back to Urangan

Yeah - most people immediately head north but I might try this campground next time I arrive on a high tide.

Yeah, I guess many of the maps no longer show the ramp because it’s not being maintained. Probably don’t want to encourage its use?????
Good ol coolooloi Creek, one of my favourite camping spots since 99.9% of people head up the island.
