Some years ago, Tim demonstrated a Swedish Candle Snuffer which would extinguish the candle after a predetermined length of time. We have had quite a few comments about this item, so we thought we would revisit the theme of candle snuffers.
The basic candle snuffer has been around for hundreds of years, and is a neat way of putting out candles without blowing wax everywhere. And if it is on a long handle then you can reach up to candles that would be hard to get to otherwise - maybe in a church, or a candle chandelier in a bigger house. Even on a tall Christmas tree maybe - in Victorian times real candles on Christmas trees were quite common.
The Swedish Candle Snuffer allows you to extinguish the candle automatically after a predetermined length of time. Not exactly of course, but you would have a good idea how long one inch or two inches of candle would burn for. As far as we know, these are not sold any more, although you might come across a second hand one somewhere.
We then came across the self-extinguishing 'Moment' candlestick, designed by Lars Beller Fjetland from Norway. See more details here - www.dezeen.com... This candle holder made its debut at the 'Wrong for Hay' collection at the Maison&Objet trade fair in Paris in 2015. Sadly, this item is no longer available. When we contacted Lars we were very touched to learn that he is a fan of Grand Illusions, and he kindly offered to send Tim a spare one, so Tim could add it to his collection. And demonstrate it here as well, of course. Thanks so much Lars!
Finally, coming right up to date, Tim recently bought a high-tech candle snuffer, that was launched in 2022 initially via a Kickstarter project. The base needs to be charged up through a USB port. You then place a candle on the base, and adjust the long arm so that it is pointing towards the flame. You can then set the timer for 1, 2,3 or 4 hours. At the end of that time, a fan starts up in the base, and - via the arm - blows the candle out. More info at myairyfairy.com/ - Наука

Happy New Years
And a Happy New Year
Inspired by an old video of yours, I found some of those Swedish candle snuffers this year! They don't send to the UK (Brexit) but one of my students ordered some to her parents' house in Italy and managed to get them to me in time for Christmas presents. Very excited! Happy Christmas, Tim & Grand Illusions.
I quite like the Norwegian one. It's stylish in its simple design.
I would still feel a bit worried about leaving a candle burning at home, even with an automatic candle snuffer in place, because something unpredictable might still happen. Flame LED's have come a long way over the years and I do prefer having a harmless little button-cell battery powering a "fake" flame, but what a lovely display indeed. 😊 Merry Christmas and a Happy New year.
The same Daniel Renard who did the Koakuma animations?
@@SpartanMJO12 I've enjoyed Tim's toy collection, ever since I looked for a nostalgic toy from my childhood and came across this channel. I quite liked how the toys were showcased and explained, so of course I'd give good ol' Tim a sub! 😊
I don't like to leave even the crockpot home alone.
I'm Swedish and my grandmother has always had those automatic ones, brings back memories.
5:36 - Yeah, it's magical how someone can produce so much waste to create a device that's inferior to the simple gravity-operated or spring-loaded ones in just about every way (needs batteries, is itself made of flammable material, doesn't have any way to detect how much of the candle is left, has dozens of parts that can fail, will probably break if it falls off a table, etc.).
I agree, that's a load of pollution for something hazardous and unreliable
I quite agree. And rather ugly, in my opinion.
if you needed an electronic device just to blow a candle i will burn your house down
Welcome to the future
not to mention how noisy it is! It would wake me up if the point was to put the candle to sleep if I fell asleep.
Can we please respect the fact that they did a timelapse of a candle for a few hours to show you how it works? :) Thank you cameraman and editors, and Tim ofcourse!
Merry Christmas and have a happy new year. Let's hope 2023 is a bit better now, mm?
Heh!
They even preserved the audio. Which was very satisfying to hear
@@OctyabrAprelya That was a maraca, I'm afraid.
Haha the electrical one is a dangerous device if you've ever seen one. If at some point eventually, relatively frequent, it can't blow out the candle it will just bellow the flame and/or possibly blow hot wax everywhere. If this were a widespread appliance we would read about housefires about every single day because of it.
How do you know?
Also, if you are going to get electricity involved in a light source, why not just…..
@@anderfu8273 shhh, you are ruining the ✨Magic✨
@@oarnaur I've got this very rare and weird super power of not being stupid as a lump of dirt😅
@@anderfu8273 Because light takes a constant supply of electricity
Wax is a renewable substance you can make at home
Candles can be scented and give off a very pleasing type of light that bulbs cannot emulate

I love the fact that youre still uploading
I would be more afraid using that new electric candle snuffer than one from hundreds of years ago Merry Christmas to you as well.
Yeah me too. Way too many failure points. If they had made a simple, mechanical one, I'd be simultaneously more impressed and more likely to want to use it.
Seriously. I trust some random startup from Kickstarter that runs on batteries infinitely less than an analog invention used by people for potentially decades that works because of a weight or spring.
Merry Christmas to you as well, Mr. Tim!

Merry Christmas Tim. 🎄🎄⛄⛄🎅🏼🎅🏼
The long awaited sequel! I remember back in 2013 or 15 on Xmas day you uploaded a 25 minute candle video. Merry Christmas to Tim & the team 🎄
Merry Christmas!
I make beeswax candles as a hobby. It should be noted that for beeswax it's highly recommended that the wick be dipped into the wax pool to extinguish which prevents it from smoking a lot. So blowing out beeswax candles is actually a bad idea. For tapers that do not usually have a wide enough wax pool... using a proper candle snuffer (first one in the video) is the best option but wait a few seconds even after the flame is extinguished before lifting the snuffer to restrict the flow of oxygen so as to reduce smoke.
I also found it humorous that he helped extinguish one of the candles by blowing on it at around 2:43 - ruclips.net/video/oWrwLEeYnTQ/видео.html
I can't put into words how dear this man is.
"Let me show you how wonderful this candle snuffer is."
(Blows out the candle)
Merry Christmas to everyone at Grand Illusions!
Merry Christmas!
Candle snuffers are used because the wick doesn't produce any more smoke when put out. If you just blow on it, a little ember remains most of the time and gives out ample amounts of smoke. It also may burn the remainder of the wick...
Merry Christmas, Tim; thanks so very much for all the joy you bring to the world.
Merry Christmas Tim, and everyone else at Grand Illusions!
5:19. That is extremely dangerous. It could ignite and kick off small embers and shoot them on to some easily inflammable material.
"airy fairy" - more like fiery devil.
Even the old candle snuffers werent without danger, but they atleast did not blow the embers off the wick.
What's the difference between that and just blowing a candle out?
unlike the gadget which would likely be left unattended, someone is in the room, blowing the candle out@@jpaxonreyes
Merry Christmas Tim and to everyone else watching tonight!
Merry Christmas Tim! God bless you and your family
What a wonderful creation on Christmas eve
Itll be a sad day when tim isnt around any more :( Hopefully he has many years left!
I'll stick with the Norwegian one. Never needs re-charging and won't blow molten wax all over the place.
Merry Christmas, Mr. Tim and his team!
I haven’t seen a recommendation for this guy in a while and I’m really glad to see that he’s doing OK
Have a Happy Christmas, Tim
My favorite is the one manufactured by Merry Phipson & Parker. A real little jewel.
Never knew there was such a thing as an automatic candle snuffer! Let alone some form of it existing for hundreds of years.
Candle snuffers are some of my favorite objects. They remind me of my grandmother who has unfortunately passed. She had a candle snuffer and when I was a kid I used to love snuffing out candles with it. When I would go over to her house she would light all the candles and let me snuff them out. I used to get so excited when she handed me her candle snuffer. Unfortunately when she passed the candle snuffer came up missing. I wish I had it so I could pass on those memories to my grandkids. This video makes me miss her.
I liked the counter weight one... nice idea
Merry Christmas Tim, your videos are always a treat!
Merry Christmas, Tim!
Happy Christmas to you too, Tim ...And to all a Good Day.
I really like the design of the older candle snuffers. It jus speaks to me. Merry Christmas and have a great New Year!

Merry Christmas to you as well!
so cool i really like the old ones
Merry Christmas Tim!
“By a Kickstarter process”
I’ve never heard it being described as that before
I was just thinking the other day to get something like this to snuff my candles, didnt know the name.
Thank you!
happy holidays, tim!
Merry Christmas Tim, much love to you and yours!
Merry Christmas Tim
Merry Christmas to you too, Tim with Grand Illusion :)
p.s
Where I live, it's 1:35pm during the day, not at night ;)
Not everyone watches the video when it comes out anyway haha.
neat love candle stuff

Merry Christmas to you all🎅
I thought the title read "this candle suffers" xD
merry late Christmas &happy new years eve
Merry Christmas Tim :)
Feliz Navidad Tim!
I saw one of those things in a RUclips short, or something like that: I thought it was just some novelty, I had no idea it existed for a longer time.
Merry Christmas to all :)
Merry Christmas Tim ^__^
Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas to you Tim hope you have a good one because I'm not doing well myself because I have a sore throat and my god it hurts so much
great snuff
The modern one needs a peltier device to power it, charge a super capacitor. Time could be adjusted by adding more capacitors, one it hits a certain voltage threshold it dumps to the fan
Merry Christmas One and All !!✝️🎄✝️
Thank you friend
Merry Xmas.
Warm greetings!
Thanks!
"It's time to light up, for the festive season!"
Right on, i got this real nice strain-
"And what better way than with candles"
Yeah, totally. That's what i was thinking too.
'We made a video. Watch it' 👹
'Yes Tim, as you command. I'll watch it. Please don't hurt me!' 😰😂
neat. I just think the first snuffer attached to the candle was used a bit incorrectly.
merry christmas tim ٩(◕‿◕。)۶
Happy neuw Sir Tim 😃
This were probably used a lot since candles were really the only way to light a house until electricity was discovered. So people people had a lot of candle in their house light all the time day and night so they would probably have used the ones that once the candle burns down flips over the wick. Great way to make sure your house didn't burn down.
NOoooo 😫... Tim... I can't believe you didn't set up the Swedish candle snuffer the right way 😖 they are so cool when operated properly 🕯
This guy has been making videos since I was 1 month old
That electric one is a daft idea, literally a fan to blow hot wax around and fan the flames near a small electrical device covered in plastic. The one with a point on that claps down onto the flame is the best!
Might wanna get someone on the audio and brightness there
Of course, here too they had to "renew" an old, perfect design that worked perfectly and turn it into a piece of plastic with electronics and a battery so that the Chinese have something to produce and Amazon has something to send.
Hi Tim, Do you have any old and/or novelty lighters?
The floral design looks real nice until it burns down the building lol
... Why did you blow the candle out when the swedish snuffer got there?? Lol
Sweet Jesus my eyes
I like the vintage snuffers, but I find that the last one is over-engineered; it might as well be an electric candle.
Can I buy these through your website?
Sorry but we do not sell any of these items. The last one is available from the people that manufacture it - see the text description.
Nice I love candles🎉❤🎉❤🎉🎉🎉🎉❤🎉❤❤🎉❤🎉
Cant disslike some good snuff!
Tim's Candle Snuffers
lol, Tim slowly moves the candle snuffer down and then he blows out the candle before the snuffer can snuff it! 😛
P.S. *Merry Christmas Tim!*
This video went by suprisingly fast.
A jubilant Chrismahannakwanzayule to every body!
They are called sconce
2:41 - I can clearly see the candle is stil alight after the device has activated and I can clearly hear the candle being blown out shortly afterwards.
"Victory of science over the common sense" ©. The easiest solution is just making a non-burning candlestick wide enough to collect melted wax. It is much more reliable. Of course, if one wants to decorate one's candle with burning materials then such devices may be useful.
Me, a total chad that already saw the second golden one in another video years ago 😎
Great ideas! - except the last one... plastic/batterie/chip nonsene... it is more a flame hazard than any of the other ideas...
🕯️😯
What an insightful comment
