This is could be be the start of a wonderful series, random old walks from random old books. Outdoor activitie is building a amazing resource for generations to come.
I agree, very cool idea for a show 😁👍🏼 I would defo watch! Then again, Marek could be having conversations with dolls, battling with evil bread or making inedible meals, and I’d still be around for the ride! 👍🏼💗
Russell seems a nice bloke to go walking with and there is definitely a hint of Portillo about him. My thirst quencher is usually a pint of cider shandy or just an orange juice and lemonade with ice, both give me a bit of an energy boost and the cider numbs any aches and pains. Was wondering whether you could sell CDWC embroidered patches, similar to the ones on the beanie hats? Stay cool
@@cdwc Rarely better, Thank you! Was on the rack a while back but now the pawns like Philip are serving their purpose to detract from the big fish like me
Hey Marek. 👍😃 Another great walk. That's an area of the UK I'm not familiar with. Although it looks lovely. That White Witch had an awfully foul mouth ! Made me laugh out loud. A cold Shandy is a beautiful refreshing drink. I agree with you. Nothing nicer on a hot day. 😃👍 Take it easy Cool Dude.
When I was a kid the now Secret Garden building used to make coloured garden tubs and planters. Farnham is next door to me and we are lucky to have beautiful countryside to walk through. No Red Squirrels though
I think I can remember when the Secret Garden did that. I really like what they've done with it now (although all the garden stuff is really expensive). There seems to be a Bembridge price hike thing where everyone whacks on 20% especially workmen.
Russell's resemblance to Michael Portillo was uncanny! Most refreshing drink probably has to be an ice cold American Gatorade chock full of artificial colors and flavors.
I have never tried Gatorade. Have you ever been covered in a bucket of Gatorade like American sports coaches. I always assumed Lucozade is the same as Gatorade.
The Southern Rambles are packed with adventure. a mysterious beastly cat, Mother Ludlam's Cave, album cover shots, an ancient yew, a Michael Portillo reference, and an excellent collab with Russell. Your videos get better all the time. My answer: Agua frescas are nice.
There’s an interesting article in July’s Fortean Times about big cats. They have found evidence in Gloucestershire after a lamb was eaten in May 2022. Hair samples taken from a fence revealed it to be Panthera Pardus, a type of leopard!
Just discovered this, don't know how I missed it 6 months ago I was def following you then. Trouble is for my 2024 day trips I've decided to focus on my local area - Sussex & Hampshire. You've now tempted me into Surrey, drat!
Oh my god, I knew about Mother Ludlam from the Loremen podcast! Never heard of Michael Portillo though I actually like to drink coffee, that's just because I'm hopelessly addicted; a lemon ginger kombucha is my favorite refreshing drink. I quit drinking anything alcoholic back in my twenties, but kombucha has a vibe similar to beer
Yeah, I know for a fact that the majority or this walk was on roads. These are my ends, and I'm always stuck for nice places to walk my dog. We need more footpaths! Thanks for the video Marek, I was hoping they'd be something for the spotter's guide, so I could give it a go!
@@cdwc exactly 🙂👍. Thanks for all the work you put in to your vids mate. Always good fun and enjoyable. Catch you again soon ... on the next amble. 🙂👍👋
I've recently discovered mint water and Ribena or strawberry cordial it's so refreshing. Get a couple of mint plants and take cuttings of the leaves, crush and twist them and leave them to soak in a jug of water for at least one hour and you are done. Best with ice
Thanks for taking us along for this very cool walk, bit of a magical vibe going on with the cave- dwelling lady and old monastery ruins, and stories of spaniel-sized cats. You n Russell defo brightened up my Saturday morning so thanks for taking us along for this walk... Miles better than anythin Michael Portillo ever did!!!! 😘👍🏼
The book is brilliant. His writing style is hilarious and it is full of atmospheric black and white photos of walks. I can thoroughly recommend it cool dude.
That walk looks very pleasant. I believe the area is beautiful. I visited Farnham this January for a couple of days in lovely weather. But as I arrived with an already sprained ankle, I was sadly not able to walk much 😢 So thank you for sharing 😊
Right! What was that accent you used for the big cat story, Marek? 😂😂 Can't beleive you were down the road but glad you got a good burger. Our local pubs are pricey but do good scran. I though the phrase "Russel can smell burgers" sounded like an indy track from the teenage band you mentioned. Washed down with soda water and lime! Finally, promise you will NEVER go Portillo pastel on us please! :PS love the walk based on that book. Have stated buying old guide books myself. Lovely read.
Best burger for a while as well, and it’s nice to know Mr Mais liked a ginger shandy! Big fan of a nice post-walk lemonade, myself! Edit: *Fifteen quid* to get into a gallery!?
I looked the gallery up the website - It actually £13.50 with £1.49 gift aid. I wonder how many people pay that? I was trying to work out what a pint of 'Old' was that S.B.P Mais refers to. I think it might be a stout. I just watched some of your videos. Excellent. I really enjoyed them. Thank you for signing up too.
The most refreshing drink I ever had was a pint of Aspall's cider consumed in a Norfolk pub, after a day spent travelling and setting up camp and wandering about a bit on a hot summers evening. Julia Bradbury is a far better prospect than Michael Portillo, try selling her your idea !
I don’t think you’d like walking with me. I fall over if I walk and talk. So I’m more of a bencher than a walker. See a bench must sit on it. I think it’s rude to the bench not to. I like walks that have benches ever 100 meters or so. This app should show bench locations for people like me.
I agree wholeheartedly the app should have a bench mode, and indicate how far you are away from the nearest bench. They can rename it Outdoor Inactive.
I hadn't even HAD two Shandy's & I thought that really WAS Michael Denzil Xavier Portillo. Russell's Remarkable Reproduction. What a likeness & transformation to behold. And what an entertaining duo you both make. You should have your own Travel Show for sure extolling the virtues of Outdoor Active all over the UK. Old Mother Hubbard, oops, I mean Ludlam needs to watch her language!I don't drink anything (I'm the driest person ever) so can't recommend a special brew. But I CAN recommend a Marek Keyring. ORANGE SHIRT Marek got in the gallery! Yay!!! Now I want his psychedelic mate for posing with pigeons! Great walk Marek!!
Were you tempted to stoop to pick a buttercup near the ruins of the abbey? Decent double act by the way, even if it was a bit infomercially. I like cold elderflower cordial for maximum refreshment!
Definitely the most refreshing drink is soda water, lovely flavors but no sweetness to leave a taste in your mouth.
The Abby ruins were so beautiful.
Grapefruit juice mixed with sparkling water. And Russell genuinely looks like Michael Portillo in his posh outfit.
One day Russell will get so famous that Michael Portillo will be doing impressions of him.

I agree the old books for walks is a great idea.
That seemed like a lovely walk Marek. A cold beer for me please. And Russel Portillo looked the part.
I expect Russell will change his name to that shortly.

The problem is I have to buy everything in a minimum of 100 really. I did Cool Dudes Trail patches but they took about two years to sell.
Fantastic choice of Walks. Especially diverting to Waverley Abbey.

Larwood and Portillo gone walking on the shandy.

Nice one cool dude. Thank you so much for joining.
I like all your videos, of course, but for some reason I found this particularly relaxing.
It was probably the calm demeanour of Russell.
Brings back memories, as most of your route was on the Pilgrims Way that I walked a couple of years ago, lovely
It is very pleasing in Spring/Early Summer.
Nice one dudes, looked a decent burger and good to see chips on a plate for once rather than them tiny baskets - what a swizz they are.

The Southern Rambles is an excellent read. I think the reliance on maps back then and footpaths being less marked out made it more of an adventure.
Thanks.
