Safe to say that after Ray Brown left us Chuck Berghofer became the number one studio & jazz bassist in Los Angeles & the West Coast. I played with him in Sierra Madre!
Chuck Berghofer is an outstanding bassist !!! One evening I was at the Piano bar at the 'Money Tree Jazz Supper Club on Riverside Dr. in Toluca Lake 'where 'Chuck Berghofer was accompanying Jimmy Rowles on piano & Stacy Rowles on trumpet & singing with Nick Martinis on drums & I asked Chuck Berghofer if I could tape that session & Chuck thought it would be okay & Jimmy Rowles realized I was taping later in that 1st Set & Read me the Riot Act & 'Jimmy Rowles was right as I should have asked Jimmy Rowles initially & I didn't. Ultimately, it was a Fabulous evening of LA, Toluca Lake 'Money Tree' Jazz
Many thanks for all your great playing, fantastic! Being a long term fan of Elvis Presley, I wonder if you played bass for Elvis during the sit down shows for NBC's 1968 TV special 'Elvis'? I read an interview with the legendary Scotty Moore and he stated that there was a hidden bass player in the audience behind Elvis. Would be cool to have it confirmed and maybe even with a photo. Thank you for the music!
Love this!
