Well-deserved. I rank Arran, anCnoc, and Benromach together as quality distilleries that charge notably less than others (£5-10 less) for their basic age-statements, without compromising on consistently good bottles. I suppose I "rewarded" Arran's respect of the customer this christmas by buying their quarter cask, which for an NAS I would never usually pay that much for, but I trust this distillery and feel a lot happier taking a risk with them due to their focus on the affordable, quality 10.
I have to say Ralph, I fully agree with your chastisement of the distilleries. The prices are getting out of control fast! Most bottlings have gone up an avg of $20-25. That’s just for the standard ones! The premium 18 yr olds and such even more so upwards to $50 or more. Even Bourbon. Actually I’d say Bourbon has gone up more than scotch. Seriously greedy. I won’t even touch the stuff now. The only difference is that the giant price jump in the US market has for now excluded most of the entry level bottles. Good on you to give them an earful. I’m having to pull my purse strings this year for sure. Rum will benefit from this, as they are still relatively modestly priced. Thanks for sharing. Merry Christmas !
While prices have been creeping up on whiskey in general, keep in mind that a big reason scotch went up in the US this year is because tariffs on single malt Scotch and (Northern) Irish whiskey went into effect in January, so the cost of those tariffs get passed to us, the consumers. A few brands seem to be unchanged (Glenmo, Speyburn, and some Ardbegs) but other than that, everything went up at least 20% in my price/supply-controlled state.
@@WUBRGer_King I understand but glenmorangie and all the other ones priced similarly are all from Scotland. If they can keep their prices at the same level, so should the rest .

In 2020, in the states, I think those increases are primarily the fault of the US government rather than just the distillers. But for those cases we have to vote with our wallets. I stocked up on Talisker before the tariffs hit and I'm not planning on buying it again unless I see it for a more reasonable price. IMO this has already started to work, as Lagavulin and Oban have gone back to pre-tariff prices. Now, my thought regarding Moet is that they may be thinking more long-term. Right now, Glenmo and Ardbeg are cheaper than their competing brands (my state has to sell based on MSRP, so I'm going off of that), and enthusiasts generally consider both to be pretty good whiskeys, so they might be trying to use this as an opportunity to get market share away from Diageo/Beam/Grant. Been watching since '09 - Whisky Review #1,.....Talisker 10yo. My comment at the time "This stuff is my favorite -- even with the CARLMEL." :-D You said something in one of your reviews several years back that has always stuck with me "the surest thing in life is change.". Well, this past year has been the prime example,...at least in my life time. Here's to a better 2021,...thanks Ralfy.
The Arran 10 is a lovely drop and I agree with you Ralfy that it is affordable. I do have a couple of other expressions of Arran, but this one is very handy. Thanks for your comments.
Sadly, in the US, Arran is a very rare whisky to see on the shelves near me. I’ve wanted to buy it for a while, but haven’t found it. Worse yet, where I am I notice a lot of malts that are cheap in the UK being pretty steeply priced. Simple malts that those in the UK take for granted as being cheap in supermarkets aren’t cheap everywhere. Bowmore 12 for example is $64.99 near me.
I have just finished my first Arran 10yo. I really loved it. Its a style I like at the minute. Similar to Campbelltown malts. The bottle was around the £30 mark and was great value. No nonsense packaging, telling you everything you need that is important, and not bombarding you with waffle. I thought the inclusion of I formation in braille was a great idea. Tha ks for the upload Ralfy.
What a fantastic choice. There was clues in the last video when u compared the arran 10 to a standard speyside. I had a fantastic experience at the arran distillery a couple of years ago. At the end of the tour me and someone else stayed back and we got to try expensive whiskies on the house. Arran always has a special place with me.

Looking forward to your new book in 2021. Your whisky pick of the year is perfect. I bought a bottle of Arran 10 in the beginning of December and I love it. A fine whisky how a whisky should be. Excellent choice ralfy! I always have a bottle of Arran 10 in my bar. I have a little left in my Arran 14yr bottle but I'm saving it for a special occasion. All the best, wonderful job as usual! Cheers!
You know what I really enjoy about watching a video from Ralfy is that it makes me smile because of all the positivity. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and it continues on with a Happy New Year!
Ralfy I have taken to watching your video's early evening on a daily basis, they are so satisfying, calming and full of knowledge. By late evening I have a dram in hand and slowly sip away to my hearts content. Thanks from the other side of the world in down under Sydney. Cheers 🥃
Thank you ralfy. Honestly, Arran wasn't on my radar so far at all. After watching your video, I randomly came across with the label in a local store and just bought it. Pricewise it has been a bargain in my eyes, payed approx EUR 26,00. Already tasted it, loving it. At that price, this Whisky easily outperforms a lot of my far more expensive ones. Unchillfiltered, natural color and 46% on top. I am happy and your channel is truly an enrichment in so many different aspects. Greetings from Austria. I am also leaving a malt-mention, if that's okay: "life loving, rooted, global scotch-honoring malt-family"
Just finished your book Ralfy, thanks for reminding me to slow down and savour my malts again, and for the wonderful sense of place in the tales, not to mention fabulous Orlando on his tenth life as some cats do!
Great video Ralfy. A few thoughts. Your charity plans are fantastic. I agree with your pick from Arran. I've never had the 10 yet not available at the moment. I have had 2 from Arran this year. The Port finish and the Bothy quarter cask. Both were excellent. Boy wouldn't it be a shame if the name of the distiller that threatened legal action against you was leaked. Have a great new year Ralfy
For Whiskey of the Year drinkers in Australia - Arran 10 is almost impossible to find but there is some Deanston 12 around. Vintage Cellars have it on sale at $83. The typical price is around $95.
Another cracking review, and watching you sit next to the fire with yer bunnet on, putting the world to rights, well it brought back fond memories of my granda flooding back, from many years ago now. Arran 10 is now on the to do list
The Daftmill auction is a fantastic idea. Well done Ralfy. I didn't get a bottle through my good friend Mark - unemployment has hit the pocket badly - so I really appreciate the situation for people who will benefit from the food bank. Great sentiment as always from a man of honour.

Whisky and fire blessings from South Shields, England. Hope 2021 is good to you and yours.
Thank you Ralfy. For you candor!
Thank you for your opinions and information, it is good that they are kept honest every time.
Have a cosy end of year and interesting 2021!
Ralfy you are a great inspiration in such a grim time Thanks Ralfy👍👍👍
Came for the whiskey stayed for the charisma
Isle of Arran is such a sympathetic distillery, in price, quality, presentation.. wonderful spirits out there!
I don’t even drink whiskey, I just like watching your video’s and your in depth reviews and common talks
Love watching u man! Im from st louis missouri in the us. I wish i could come visit u someday and sit and have a dram together!
Cheers 🥃
. . . happy to help !
Thanks for the video. Arran produces great malts. Arran 18 is my favorite.
Ralfy, good one for speaking out.
Congratulations on the wood burning stove, they are very efficient and put out so much more heat.
Must admit I'm not a regular viewer Ralfy but every now and again I watch a few of your videos and they're always brilliant! Happy new year.
Fab channel, love your chat and reviews.
Santa left me your book. About 40 odd pages in so far. Really enjoying it. All the best for 2021 my friend
I am also leaving a malt-mention, if that's okay:
"life loving, rooted, global scotch-honoring malt-family"
. . . happy to share !
Love the wood burner! Looks great and BAM! 12:52 hit us with a bottle of Daftmill 2006! What a way to start!
For Whiskey of the Year drinkers in Australia - Arran 10 is almost impossible to find but there is some Deanston 12 around. Vintage Cellars have it on sale at $83. The typical price is around $95.
Awesome choice for whisky of the year, keep up the great work ralfy, your truly the Best.
Never seen you so passionate ralfy, your a credit to us all mate, got a bit emotional at your views , all the best and keep up the good work
Another cracking review, and watching you sit next to the fire with yer bunnet on, putting the world to rights, well it brought back fond memories of my granda flooding back, from many years ago now.
Great choice for Whisky of the year. Can´t wait for the second book, I really enjoyed the first one.
