    The funny thing about Professor Leonard's lectures is that they don't actually feel like typical lectures;
    they feel almost like a television series, which you watch with a lot of joy and look forward to the next "episode".

    Best teacher for Statistics on the planet. The way he teaches statistics is awesome. I have found lots of teachers who don't possess the practical aspect of statistics and that's why masses found statistics is boring, but Professor Leonard teaching style is really awesome.

    Dear Sir i myself is a Maths teacher and the way you have explained the difference Permutation & Combination is so awesome. Specially the way you brought Permutation shifting to combination clears the students doubts. "i will be using these examples for my students for easy understanding. worth the 1 1/2 hrs of the time to learn new ways of helping students understand better.

    seriously wish you were my teacher, I didn't understand my professors note the whole course and made 60-66 on the tests... after watching you and taking notes and studying your notes I made a 95 on my final.... and my professor had had looks like you decided to study in an e-mail, no he just sucks as a teacher and I learned from Professor Leonard is what I wanted to say.... but that wouldn't be appropriate, however I am complaining to my college because I didn't pay for a teacher that couldn't teach and make us feel stupid when we ask questions and then not explain.

    I think it would help greatly at 15:00 - 20:00 to draw the distinction between the security code example (where the numbers 0-9 can be reused for each digit) versus the fruit example where you only have one of each fruit total and they can't be reused. You can sense that the students are expecting to be able to place an apple in every one of the five slots. They're seeing fruits but thinking security codes.
    I also think it would help if statistics teachers brought props to the class. Bring an actual deck of cards to class. Bring a coin. Bring a 6-sided die. To see it being demonstrated right in front of the class is a powerful learning tool. I bet half the students in the class have never played cards before (a very real problem when describing probabilities using examples involving playing cards). The odds that every student knows what a Jack is or knows the four suits in Poker is quite low. I'd bring a deck of cards to class, open it up, and display it for everyone to see. That way you remove all doubt.
    Love the videos, keep up the great work!
    FYI: I took statistics in college and I'm watching these videos for review. This one particular area of statistics is arguably the most confusing area in all of mathematics.

    When - at which instance in mathematical structures - are unlikelyhoods regarded as trivial ? And who dicides ? A coin that is tossed may come to rest on its edge, and a die on one of its vertices. Most unlikely, but which mathematician may say it cannot ? Granted a point has no dimension and a vertex being a point.

    Hello professor, I really enjoyed your videos but I have a small suggestion that might help many people. Because lectures may contain several sub-topics and someone might need specific subtopic or specific thing they did not understand, it becomes hard to look for that specific subtopic in 1 or 2 hours long video or even deciding the right video because videos are divided by lessons not topics.. so I suggest putting something like hashtags in the description containing the sub-topics.. for example, I'm looking for explanation of cardinal numbers of set, but I don't know where to find this exactly in your videos because my textbook is different than the one you're using... in my textbook it's in the same lesson with permutation and combination.. I even couldn't find using search tool in your channel.. otherwise thanks a lot for your great videos and your channel is very excellent!

  • @aram5642
    @aram5642 3 года назад

    I have been helping others understand the basics of probability, counting, and I always need to start by pointing out the common meaning of the word 'combination' which is used interchangeably for both combinations and permutations. This often blurs the difference between the two. All the examples with pin codes or code padlocks are unfortunate, because the commonly used word "combination" implies the order of the digits does not matter (1234 should then work for 4321), while in these cases it does matter, so we should speak about permutations instead.

    One way to show that 0! = 1 is to kind of "complete the pattern";
    for example ----- 4! / 4 = 3! ----- 3! / 3 = 2! ----- 2! / 2 = 1! ----- 1! / 1 = 0!,
    which implies that 0! = 1, since the above pattern implies that n! / n = (n - 1)!,
    assuming that n ∈ ℕ, n ≠ 0.

    Nobody posted the answer for the boys and girls problem @ 1:22:00? I got 792. I'm pretty sure I'm right but I've been up all night and that number seems small, so who knows.
    12! / (7! *5!)
    simplifies in the numerator to:
    6 * 11 * 2 * 3 * 2 = 792
