    Nice! How many buds did it produce? I have limited space on my roof and I will probably try growing some in 15 gallon containers and have it grow 3 feet tall. What do you think? I use Vesterra products too.

    • @RAREDRAGONFRUIT

      It produced 2 buds before I got it. They bloomed about 5 days or so after I received the plant. I applied tea and castings weekly and it turned more green within a week or so. It tried to produce a 3rd flower but it aborted during our heatwave. How do you like their products so far? If I remember correctly, you are impressed with the results so far?

    Have you had a chance to check if your Laverne pink variety is self fertile? It looks/sounds like such a tasty fruit! Hopeful mine will grow quickly and fruit next year

      I will this season, but am almost certain it needs cross pollination.

    How can you tell from the vines if it’s a undatus variety?

    • @RAREDRAGONFRUIT
      @RAREDRAGONFRUIT  4 года назад +2

      The spines, the structure of the branch, and the lack of a grey edge between the spines (on the ribs). Also, the flowers look a bit different too.

    I can’t find any info on the La Verne white… I have the white, pink and red varieties but they sold the company and I haven’t seen any info on it, if you find anything please pass it along

      I don't have it, I have LaVerne Purple, LaVerne Red (magenta), and LaVerne red (red flesh)

    There's a post in Grafting DF group by Wayne Situ. His Laverne pink is magenta color. How can you/us find out for sure which is correctly labeled?

    • @RAREDRAGONFRUIT
      @RAREDRAGONFRUIT  3 года назад +2

      LaVerne Nursery has been known to grow from seedlings in the past. The older plants are probably seedlings (hybrids) and this is a perfect example. You can't tell for sure until you buy a cutting from a reputable grower with proof of the fruit and flesh or your Laverne plant produces fruit. I hear that this nursery is now mostly selling Edgar's Baby from tissue culture... Check out this video to see how bad their labeling system is set up. Honsestly, I got very lucky with this LaVerne Hyrbrid... ruclips.net/video/7_lir79BY4k/видео.html&t

    Where can I buy a pink la verne cutting?

    • @RAREDRAGONFRUIT
      @RAREDRAGONFRUIT  4 года назад +1

      The Nursery is out in Piru, California. I hear they grow from seed so it can be a wildcard. Do you live in San Diego? I have a few pieces I'm rooting. This is my favorite fruit that's come out of the collection so far. In my opinion, better than a Yellow Palora because it's just as sweet, it's larger, has a shorter harvest time, and the seeds were so small and mild.

    Is this Pink flesh from Laverne self fertile?
    Now the pink flesh NoId given to me is no longer noid.

      There are several pink fleshed varieties out there. This plant was most likely grown from seed based on the looks and is probably self sterile. I need to test it next season. It’s a great fruit!

      The one I have given 5o me was a cutting from a plant from LA Verne bought from Home depot .
      Label just like yours.

    Juice a whole fruit then test the brix score for a more practical reading don't you think ?

    • @RAREDRAGONFRUIT
      @RAREDRAGONFRUIT  3 года назад

      That would be a great way to get an average reading. The fruit is sweetest and has the highest brix in the center of the fruit. As you eat the fruit towards the rind, it is less sweet and more tart. I should try this in the future to see the difference in the score.

    If you see this comment even a year after, I got a question:
    Will you maybe do a video on experimenting with smaller containers for dragonfruit?

    • @RAREDRAGONFRUIT
      @RAREDRAGONFRUIT  3 года назад +1

      Sure. You can see in this video that the LaVerne Pink plant was in a small pot for 5 years and it still set fruit that were delicious. What sized pots? 5?

    • @TheBrewingMiner
      @TheBrewingMiner 3 года назад

      @@RAREDRAGONFRUIT Wow, that plant has been in that pot for 5 years? That's insane.
      Yeah, I was thinking of trying 2gal - 5gal pots.
