    Wow! This brings me back!! I moved to Toronto in November of '78 so I'd be watching this on my Admiral 12" black & white set in my first apartment! Thanks for the memory!

    "Only three supergroups survived the decade, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones and The Who." Uh, ever heard of Queen and Pink Floyd?

    • @Bobjb999
      @Bobjb999 3 года назад +6

      The first use of the word "supergroup" I ever heard was when it was applied to Blind Faith in 1969. The original meaning of "supergroup" would NOT have included Led Zep, Stones, Who, Pink Floyd, Queen, or The Beatles. Because "supergroup" meant a band made up of members who had previously been in a number various OTHER famous bands. Blind Faith's members were from Cream, Traffic, & Family. That made Blind Faith a supergroup. None of the other bands mentioned here qualify 'cause "supergroup" did not mean "mega selling & famous for years." It had a different meaning that got twisted and perverted, as we can read and hear above.

    • @inversion66
      @inversion66 3 года назад +1

      @@Bobjb999 Even when this was filmed most people didn't use the term for bands like Zep. In fact the term was often used as a vague insult, implying a band was less than the sum of its parts.

    • @Etobeeshawn
      @Etobeeshawn 3 года назад +2

      I think the word supergroup is being used loosely not literally (as Hermesacat's reply to you about the meaning of 'supergroup' is correct). And I think the point of Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, The Who surviving the '70s is that they were formed AND became popular in the '60s and still remained popular in the '70s, whereas Queen and Pink Floyd (even if formed in the '60s) did not become popular and commercially successful until early-to-mid '70s (Jeanne Beker wouldn't disrespect those bands, at least not on purpose imo, but she is being factual). And for the record: I'm still a huge fan of ALL of five of those bands, plus the Ramones etc.
