    Benedict Cumberbatch man… Benedict Cumberbatch is something else. He truly blew me away.

    The emotional trenches were plentiful. The middle was mentally exhausting. Poor “8” that was a graphic and tragic ending. Meanwhile Edgar is unscathed and eating french toast at a diner. Great acting..oddly enough points on realism.

    • @nurianimates
      @nurianimates 26 дней назад +2

      Yea…. That part of Edgar being unharmed and admiring those homeless ppl was completely unrealistic!

      I agree, Eric had a terrible few days underground, watched a woman drown, doesn't know where the graffiti guy he admires ended up, climbs up the ladder that terrified him before (did he swim against the current to get back there?) and casually walks into a cafe looking all clean and chipper with enough money to order some French toast. Make it make sense.

    Cumberbatch killed this role. Roy from the office did great as the police chief as well

  • @albislopez
    @albislopez 27 дней назад +7

    One thing that could been better in my opinion is Eric's role through the show, instead of following Vincent telling him, "you're a bad father" it could focus on Edgar's fears, and insecurities more (since Eric is Edgar's creation after all) the only time we actually watch Edgar expressing himself is when he talks to his father about Edgar, but he didn't listen, making Vincent's guilt more impactful

    • @annaf3915
      @annaf3915 25 дней назад +1

      To be honest I wanted to slap Eric every time he showed up. He was just an unneccessary distration, and why did he have to look like the Gruffalo? I could have tolerated him better if he had contributed to Vincent's search in anyway, or like you say given him clues about Edgar's state of mind, but his constant trudging along annoyed the hell out of me. Also, why do the police and everyone else ignore that Vincent is clearly psychotic and a danger to himself?

    • @SLUSH_PUPPYY
      @SLUSH_PUPPYY 8 дней назад +1

      Well Eric is all in Vincent’s mind (like schizophrenia) so it’s always going to be things that are running around in his brain, especially the worst things he thinks about himself because he feels so guilty. It wouldn’t be Edgar’s feelings because it isn’t in Edgar’s head, it’s in Vincent’s. But yeah I kept thinking of Monsters Inc lmao

    • @albislopez
      @albislopez 8 дней назад

      @@SLUSH_PUPPYY I get what you're saying, but I still think that Eric should be a projection of Edgar's so Vincent can reflect on how he treated his son. Feom a storytelling perspective it would be more interesting

    • @TC4loveandlife
      @TC4loveandlife 2 дня назад +1

      He can barley notice the damage he is doing to his child and Is highly focused on himself and victimized himself alot I wouldn't expect him to know any of his sons insecurities although he cares for the boy it wouldn’t really make much sense we would like to see that happen but it wouldn’t be realistic.

    I was really drawn into the show during the first two episodes but then it became kind of all over the place and consistently depressing. This could have been a 2 hour long movie or the oppsosite, a longer series with a chance for a season 2, given the depth of the main characters and all the "side quests".
    But in that case I wouldn't have watched it because Netflix keeps canceling my favorite shows so I only click on "Limited Series" these days.

    I think that people are missing the point of the ending. It is framed as a happy ending but is anything but.
    While Edgar, the son’s version of Eric is a jovial, bright character he thought up for the show Good Day Sunshine, it is drastically different from Vincent, the father’s version. His is a representation of his subconscious. His version is all of the bad parts of himself. His Eric embodies his disillusion, contempt and anger brought on by his abuse of alcohol and drugs
    The final shot of Vincent’s subconscious version of Eric watching over Vincent and Edgar connecting after Vincent has been trying to get clean alludes to the possibility of Vincent’s repressed bad habits coming back. Although he has made the effort to change and create a new start, a lot of addicts eventually relapse.

    • @ultmotive
      @ultmotive 2 дня назад +1

      Yeah it wasn't the first time he's had issues. His mom kept bringing up how she thought he was relapsing, so it wasn't the first time and probably won't be the last; as seen by Eric still looming around.

    I really liked the show, my favorite scene was when Vincent showed up the the towns celebration event where all the kids were at and you see the camera go from police force to politician to strange men in white vans all together involved in the murder of the 14 yr old boy that is mentioned in the show but telling the audience that these types of people are all on one accord when it comes to s*x tra//icing, kidnapping and prostitution not just because they abuse their power with regular things on a daily basis

      I don't think the ending was really a "happily ever after" ending though. Vincent single-handedly destroyed the family dynamic by breaking up his marriage. Instead we see that Vincent and Cassie seem to be on good terms and co-parenting a son who is cautiously willing to reconnect with his father. I would say we are left in a more hopefully optimistic state than a true happy ending.

    Sounds a bit too dark for my tastes Chris, which is why I stopped watching shows like Baptiste (after the rollercoaster ride of The Missing), Griselda & American Rust.
    We're currently watching The Booth At The End, The Big Door Prize & several other regular shows. The Good Doctor finished 😥, Evil is back (yay!), we also finished Elsbeth S1 :).
    I'm watching a few things on my own, such as Interview With The Vampire, Kaiju No 8, finished Blood of Zeus S2 (very good!), Garouden S1 (not bad), and far too much RUclips for good sense! ;-p

    MAN, I gotta say, I’ve been quite pleasantly surprised & impressed with your analyses, thus far! I’m pretty critical of online (YT) film/tv criticism & aside from one other notable channel, I’ve found little in the way of content providing consistently good analysis/insight. These days it seems like most reviewers are either pretentious asshats throwing around esoteric terminology which may or may not relate to the content discussed….or dudes with no real depth of intellect or opinion of their own, copying others like themselves, which results in the most moronic & pedestrian commentary possible! 😬Gee, Crystal…tell us how you really feel, right?!🙄
    Aaaaanyway, I’m a new sub & am enjoying your content quite a lot! This vid makes 4/4 of your reviews that I agree with 💯! Keep up the good work, man! 👊💥😎

    This is the ultimate in diversity and inclusion. There are no humans there, no unique characters that make the story interesting. Actually, there is no story. Each character is a representative of a certain group who expresses the manifesto of that group in politically correct blurbs. Richard Dreyfuss is absolutely correct in harshly criticizing the whole stifling environment that doesn't allow any originality, anything new. Creativity is not, and could not be a politically correct thing. If everybody walks in goose step, that spells death to the art.

    Total misrepresentation of norm life.
    3 or more gay couples to 1... Just isn't normal. I stopped watching after 2nd gay couple walked in. 2 much. Just tired of it being shoved into our face all the damn time...
    I would say I don't care had it been represented realistically. But it wasn't. It's just too much. Just wonder how many gay folks worked on this film. Is it supposed to be filmed for gay community? If so... Then expose those films to gay community, not Gen pop. It's over the top to me that every single show now has to have it in there. Some sort of gay scene in 1st episode before any other supposed romantic scene...

    Totally agree. This show could have been half as long. Totally lost focus on the main story to cram in more messages about black struggle. Just make it two shows. Make it about one lost kid. They shoved in racism, homophobia, sexism. Why? Why not just make it about a bad father who needs to go through hell to bring his son back?
