During our last trip to the Lake Tanganyika we completed. 3 night dives. The first one was in the shallows near Mkangazi.
My friend and dive buddy Mattia in action taking photos in the video too
While we were diving the locals came up and told our crew there was a croc in the bay and that getting in to water at night was complete madness. Minutes after getting out on to the shore sure we saw something lurking at us from the water. We think crocs are scared of scuba sound and all them flash and video lights must be terrifying. We better be right because we are planning many more night dives to do :D
I snorkelled here in 2017 on my first trip to the lake. Later in the evening i was confident i saw croc in the bay. I couldnt sleep all night ! :))))
In this video you see :
- crab (if you know species name please comment)
- Mastacembellus elipsifer,
- Callochromis pleurospilus,
- young Boulengerochromis microlepis
- Trematocara
- Ctenochromis horei

Very nice and very strange to see! Thank you for filming and uploading!
A very illuminating performance!
That crab is Platythelphusa armata
Thank you !
Is first fish callochromis pleurospilus 'flame rainbow'?
Im not familiar with common names too much. I would say it’s C. pleurospilus Mkangazi
Was the spiny eel M. moori? Thanks for sharing 👌‼️
I think it was M. ellipsifer
At 2:26, that's a beautiful cichlid! What kind of cichlid is that? Do you know the specie name? Thanks for sharing with us..
Its Trematocara stigmaticum (not sure on species name though). These are very special cichlids. During the day they live in very deep habitat, possibly deeper than 100 m. At night they come up to the surface. I know they are in the hobby and have been bred but very rare fish for sure
1:06 is that electric eel?
There are no electric eels in Lake Tanganyika, but there is an electric catfish.
M. ellipsifer most likely
