  • I share my time-saving hack for preparing and organizing floss for the Buttons and Beads Mill Hill Kits.
These kits are quite large and can seem overwhelming to most people looking at the threads that need to be sorted before you can start your project.
Today I walk through how I saved a ton of time sorting threads with a few tools that you can get at Hobby Lobby and 123stitch.com

I appreciate your help. I find Mill Hill kits to painful to tackle. Not only do you have deal with beads but the floss as well. Ugh… I will live vicariously through your pieces. It looks beautiful and can’t wait to see your progress. Happy birthday start to you!🎉

Thanks for the tips. And as long as someone owns either a DMC book or a full set of DMC threads, this will work. But what you've demonstrated is that MillHill kits are extremely difficult to sort through and prepare, and I think that's unreasonable. Many other sellers manage to provide pre-sorted and labeled threads. Why can't MillHill?

I would rather take the time to sort through the threads so that Mill Hill can keep their prices low and materials high quality.

In the Diamond Dot kits there are bead trays that have a funnel type tip on one end which allows you to pour the beads into your storage containers quite easily. You may be able to find Diamond Dot accessories just on their own

I just bought that same kit, so yay 🎉😊 I love Mill Hills, gives me a break from the HAEDS. The MH kit I’m doing now is called Winter Glow and somehow it unfortunately slipped through Quality Control. The colors were named incorrectly (two were named “light blue”, and two named “very light blue”, plus the kit was missing one of the two bead packs. That’s never happened to me before, but it was a pain. I have the same color card you do for reference, and I have a master set of DMC on hand in case I run out of anything. No LNS near me, only Hobby Lobby 25 miles away. So, the color card came in handy, because unless I’ve gone blind, 931 is NOT light blue…it’s med antique blue. I also use Tacky Bob’s (now Tacky Bill since Bob’s is now deceased lol), one for each packet of beads. Makes beading easy peasy. Great video, and thx ❤

That is terrible! I will make sure to double check my kits when I open my kits from now on. I just recently got a local Hobby Lobby so I totally understand! I am going to be purchasing the Tacky Bill and trying it out you are the second person to recommend it! Thank you for your comment! It was very appreciated ❤️🪡

would love to see your part 2 when you get to sorting the beads, do you stitch in hand or you do use those magnetic hoops when stitching these?

I think a part 2 with beads needs to happen. I will start working on it! I stitch these in hand at the table a little at a time
