Thanks for watching! I finally got around to making this highly anticipated reaction, and this album absolutely lived up to all the hype! Definitely the best Madonna album I've heard so far! What do you guys think? Which songs are your favorite? What other fun facts/stories do you know related to this album? Share them in the comments, I'm super curious to hear them all! If you enjoy these videos and would like to support me beyond watching my videos, feel free to check out my Patreon! www.patreon.com/thecakeissisley
Very personal songs on the album, about her parents, the end of her marriage etc. the following albums are even better in my opinion, Erotica, Bedtime Stories and Ray Of Light followed Like A Prayer in the 90s and esecially the later was once again a total gamechanger and won her pretty much every award on the planet.
I'm glad you really loved this album! It's truly amazing, Madonna at her best. And it only gets better after this. She's the Queen of Pop for some reason
Like a Prayer was and still is concidered the ultimate pop album. It's iconic at a cultural level. It changed pop music forever. It was a before-after turning point in pop music. Madonna became more serious and brought serious lyrics to pop music. Promise to Try is about her mother's death. Oh Father is about her relationship with her father after her mother died. Til Death Do Us Apart is about her failed marriage with actor Sean Penn. After you see all the videos for this album, including Vogue from her next album, I recommend you to react to the world tour she did for this album, the Blond Ambition Tour because that tour changed pop performances forever.
Like A Prayer is Madonna’s best album ever! ❤️ I have loved this album since I was a 7 or 8 years old (today I’m 30, I turn 31 in a month). I am going to get a tattoo with the first verse of Like A Prayer on my chest.
oh sisley, i absolutely LOVED your reaction to the masterpiece that is LIKE A PRAYER. you get so much of it and listening to you, listening to it, reminds me of when i first heard it back in 1989. so thank you. in addition, when i first hear an album, there are songs i dont care for but they grow on me. Like a Prayer is truly a masterpiece and after the "confessional" content of this album, EVERY ARTIST thereafter started including songs about their lives and childhood, etc. This was again, showing Madonna's POWER and how she was creating THE TEMPLATE in which everyone still follows until this day. FACTS. also, Prince is on guitar through this album, the LAP intro and outro and all throughout. as well as their duet on the song you appreciated, Love Song.
you have several video singles to react from this album: like a prayer express yourself cherish dear jessie oh father keep it together (blond ambition tour) promise to try (truth or dare documentary)
Thanks for reacting to this legendary album. I just left school the year this was released and remember watching the Like a Prayer Pepsi commercial and seeing M's new look and was as blown away then as I still am today. Love you Sisley but love Madonna more!! Can't wait for your reaction to I'm Breathless!! 💙
Great reaction. Definitely give Till Death do us Part another listen. Lyrically she singing about her marriage to actor Sean Penn. I always felt the "chaotic" feel of the song was intentional and represented their intense roller coaster relationship which was rumored to be occasionally violent. Videos from this album are some of her BEST and deepest: Like a Prayer Express Yourself Cherish Oh Father Dear Jessie (she appears in animated form) Promise to Try (an excerpt from Truth or Dare documentary)
She produced Love Song with Prince, till death do us apart was about her failed marriage with Sean Penn and Promise to Try is dedicated to her late mother, who died when Madonna was 5
This album is in my Top 5 favorite Madonna albums (to me, there are still 3 albums that are better), it's definitely one of her better records. My favorite song is obviously Like a Prayer (it's actually my second favorite Madonna song ever) while my least favorite is Act of Contrition. I don't dislike it at all, but I just think it's a bit useless and I think that the album would have been perfectly fine with Spanish Eyes as the closer. It is dedicated to her mother, who died when Madonna was a child, and the songs are more personal than before. The song "Promise to Try" is about the death of her mother, the song "Oh Father" talks about the difficult relationship that she had with her father as a consequence, and "Till Death Do Us Part" is about her failed mariage with Sean Penn. Madonna also collaborated with Prince for this album. Besides "Love Song" which obviously features him, he's the one playing guitar in "Like a Prayer", "Keep It Together" and "Act of Contrition". Most of the vocals were recorded in just a few takes and left as they were on the final versions of the songs. For example, Oh Father's lead vocals were recorded in just two takes. Before going to the next album, I'm Breathless (often considered as a soundtrack album when it's really not), you have 4 music videos to react to: Like a Prayer, Express Yourself, Cherish and Oh Father. A music video for Dear Jessie also exists, but Madonna doesn't appear in it, so I'd recommend you to skip it. Please upload Madonna reactions more regularly, we love them! Thanks you for this reaction, it was worth it! :)
This is gonna be weird, but my favorite Madonna song is Express Yourself, but not the version on the album. I prefer the Immaculate Collection Mix and that’s the one I go to . Thank you for doing another Madonna album! I love your reactions. ❤️
I just knew you would love this album and I predicted you would adore Cherish and Dear Jessie. This album was very controversial when released. The Like A Prayer video pissed of religious people due to the oral sex puns in the lyrics ("I'm down on my knees, I wanna take you there") and the burning crosses is the music video. Pepsi was supposed to sponsor her world tour and help promote the album but the backlash from the general public made them cut all ties with Madonna. The song Promise To Try is about her mother who passed away when Madonna was only 5. Till Death Do Us Part is a reference to her ex-husband, Sean Penn, who she divorced the same year this album was released. Love Song featured vocals from Prince who also produced the track. Another fun note the original packaging of the album came scented with Patchouli oil along with a postcard with information about AIDS awareness. I'm excited to see you react to the videos from this era. They truly are a work of art. Furthermore, please don't skip the next album which is I'm Breathless. Some fans will argue that Erotica is next in line but it truly isn't; I'm Breathless is NOT just a soundtrack like Who's That Girl was. It's a full-on studio jazz album and it's some of her best work. I'll remind you again when you react to the final Like A Prayer video for Dear Jessie. :)
I love Pray for Spanish Eyes, it was the B-side for Oh Father, and it was played on the radio occasionally in Northeast USA during winter 89/90. Perhaps because Oh Father was more somber a ballad. Still, Oh Father is a beautiful song and video
Imagine how it was when this album was first released! I remember going into a store and buying the vinyl album and instantly detecting the smell of Patchouli Oil. Then rushing home to play the album and hearing the incredible melodies and ground breaking guitar riffs. She was all over the news and print media at the time and the world was under her spell. She totally dominated the charts around the world throughout the 80s. It was a very special time for Madonna fans.
This Album is magical and one Of her most personal jobs, she really reveal layers of her soul and life on it, I would love if you React to the "Cherish" video.
Till death do us part mine fav from album along with promise to try..ah generally way to good album to pick fav. Spanish eyes, cherish...like a preyer ofc and xpress yourself but so hard to decide
Also, you wondered if any of her modern stuff can compete with Like a Prayer as an conceptual album...just you wait. Especially when you react to Ray of Light. In terms of ambition, concept, and art, I find latter Madonna to be superior to early Madonna. Early Madonna however made bops like nobody's business.
I love your Madonna re-view-actions. David Fincher directed the videos of Express Yourself and oh Father. After directing music videos he is now an acclaimed film director. He says than he learned what hard work was after working with Madonna. Both videos are great, express yourself is considered one of the best music videos ever and has been the most expensive one for a long timd. Thanks a lot again and sorry for my english
I love Love Song! Prince and Madonna's collaboration on the song is amazing!!! However my favorite track on this album is Promise To Try! It's so sad, yet so beautiful!!!

Like a prayer has to be the best song on this album. I love till death do us part
Oh and I forgot about Cherish... Brilliant song!
Hey. U are so funny. Is so good that Madonna inspires you. She is a very good influence
Love your Madonna reactions
Cant wait to the Erotica album!!
Me too.
You are such a wonderful light, such a vibrant joy in this world. Keep on doing you!
Jessie is Patrick Leonard's daughter, the producer of the album. Madonna wrote the song for her.
OMG, I never knew that.
the bible of Pop!!!
13:19 you said it gurl, she's not just a pop artist.
Promise to Try was the first song ever to make me cry.. LOVE the new hair color sis!! Beautiful! You would be a blast to hang with! Ever visit KY? Lol
Pop masterpiece 👑

Spanish eyes. Is the best. That Mexican trumpet 🎺 are so great. My dream is this song on tour. She can turn this song very political

Love 💕 your reactions of Madonna. My favorite was cherish. Dear Jessie . You capture the meaning and the essence and feeling so well. Iconic album
love it! You can tell that you have a good knowledge of music and are a genuine music fan, always great to see that.

Khánh Delecious I know but she likes the song and I think it represents the song well. That's why I put documentary excerpt.

Cool hive same I love that version, even celebration has a different version to the first two
I always preferred Celebration's even though others say it was just a bad stitched version of the mv's.
Me too
I prefer the Shep Pettibone's remix version which the Immaculate Collection version is edited and based from.
@@garrettfuller3716 What is mv?
Btw.... you have an angelic
Voice!❤️

Cherish and its video are amazing
Watch the video for ‘Cherish’, it’s magical.

the songs btw and express yourself are very familiar. the chord progression and even "hey hey" parts and melodies are the same

Most songs vocals were recorded in one take. The album was almost done in two weeks
Love song was done with Prince :)
Love Song features Prince, just a reminder.
I remember when I got this album. I couldn’t stop listening to it while smelling the patchouli-scented jacket. My favorite Madonna album of all.
I’m sure you know by now the Prince connection
Yesss!! I was so looking forward to this! Love you
