Why are there so few XTC cover bands? Because XTC made it sound natural and effortless, and when you approach covering them, you quickly find that in order to do them justice, you need to level up. These guys nailed it.
Andy Partridge and XTC were not alone in having their potential cut short by debilitating stage fright. Another notorious case that comes to mind was that of Steely Dan's Donald Fagen. Fortunately for both bands, their record sales were so strong as to negate the necessity to thrive on their touring. The good news, both Fagen and Partridge have returned to the stage in recent years ....
Musically thes guys are great but vocally the pitching of the lead vocalist shows time and again why Andy Partridge is brilliant. Same for the backing vocals. In the studio XTC were meticulous and some songs can't be replicated live.
@CONSIDERABLYMORE1 What I was referring to was the average American audience whose idea of great 80's music was groups like Depeche Mode and assorted other thin techno crap acts. XTC soared above most anything the 80's could produce ...
Good job. I love this song.
Brilliant cover of a sublime wonderful bit of England
Excellent, Excellent job, on a virtually unknown, vastly unappreciated XTC gem !!!

Very nice, except I think you are playing the acoustic riff on the verses with 2 beats off.
