Life in Russia is not limited to Moscow and Sankt Peterburg. Russia is huge and diverse. A film like this is very educational for Americans. I am from Russia, lived there for 43 years and saw a lot in my life there. I survived the war, Stalin's times, worked in factories and collective farms. I have been living in America now for more than 40 years. I like the film and sent it to my American friends. It worth watching.

They aren't trying to attack Norilsk, just highlight its dark appeal. Plenty of Russian cities like that sort of dark romanticism - Gogolian/Dostoyevskian St Petersburg being the most prominent example. It's not even a specifically Russian phenomenon - a lot of people like to highlight the druggy, "synthwave" character of Miami, the dilapidation of 80s London, or the decadence of 20s Berlin.
Tourists can't travel there since 2001. the Russian government don't want you to see it. Norilsk was still 2013 one of top 10 most polluted towns around the world.

i actually know someone who lived there and moved for a better job in bigger city, he was happy. it seems like a deep place with history or something and people seemed happy in the video too and i guess it's all that matters.
I'm fully blown away. Absolute stunning shots and a atmosphere ... that I never felt before. I salute every Russian living in Norilsk. As a western European I could hardly stand the winter in Irkutsk, but living in Norilsk must be so much harder. I love Russia and the russian mentality.
Some will romanticize anything given half a chance. The filmmaker did an excellent job with the film, but somehow I don't think their intention was to portray it in a positive light. Russia in general is an awful, corrupt place that will take many more decades, if not centuries to evolve to Western standards.
Russia is certainly not "awful", and even Norilsk is not as bad as this and similar shows try to communicate. Look, they even added a haunting music to make it sound more scary. Search for Norilsk on youtube in Russian (Норильск), and you'll see it through the eyes of locals.

The pictures, the directing and the setting of this short clip is out of this world well made. I've seen a lot through the years but this is one of the most beautifully filmed pieces I have ever seen.
It's looks very rough, apocalyptic, shows horrors of industrial pollution and abandonment. Harsh weather, dark. I've seen they do have some good things, intelligence, good attitude. If I was rich-I personally would give some things & try to help.
I think it's mainly to protect all the mining reserves there, or some similar strategic political/economic reason. They may also be trying to replicate the 'secret city' method which was a bit of a Soviet thing to do a while back I believe.
It doenst seem to be too hard to visit Norilsk as a foreigner. You can easily book a trip on various travelling sites but this doesn't neccessarly mean it also will work. Definately a city I'd love to see myself one day.

Well done movie about very dark city. Norilsk is literally dark with 40 days without sun proceed and followed by short days. It is dark because of pollution. It is build on permafrost and has no roads leading to or from it. And as many places in a region it is build on bones of victims of gulag. It is literally dark, cold, polluted cemetery. Place remote, dark and hostile to life but still inhabited by hard working and tough ppl.

Norlisk needs some funding, grants, money from polluters to improve their community. How about a community center with a pool, hot tub, large atrium, indoor garden, light therapy.

Awesome cinematic. Tho watching a couple vlogs afterwards by a Romanian, it seems to be pretty habitable tho. I kinda wanna go to Norilsk and live there for a year now. I think the cold will be ok. I've spent a winter within the arctic circle before (Lapland) And i loved it, such beautiful skies. But very little sun yeah. And ofc the Aurora borealis was amazing.
