I found a PC outside last September that had a core i3 7100 in it. It did well with the 4GB GTX 960 I paided it with. Minecraft and older games were running smoothly even with 2 cores. These CPUs are okay for what they are. I personally wouldn't buy one myself but others may still have a use for older hardware. I sold the PC to a guy that wanted to play mainly older games
I definitely agree, they are okay for what they are and that's probably the best scenario where they will still be getting used, where they play older games
I'm still using a similar CPU in the i5-4590 (4590 is slightly worse). I had to upgrade off my GTX 960 GPU (to a 3080) to play Halo. I can still play Apex Legends, Halo, Rocket League, CS, Valorant, Starcraft 2 without any issues. I don't play AAA titles though. I haven't been able to play Fortnite for years now and it is a pretty intense game to run. I'm obviously long past due for an upgrade haha
I used to use this CPU, it was in my first PC only about a year or two ago! With a GTX 1060 it worked pretty well on Forza (pretty much all I played back then) but it was good for what it was
I have a third gen i3 from 2013. It is PLENTY enough. I'm using it right now. It plays media flawlessly, and web pages load promptly. I see no need for anything faster.
Great to hear, it's always good to identify what tasks you need your CPU for, then pick an appropriate one accordingly. You have hit the nail on the head there
I built a budget amd pc. I bought an r5 4500 for 61 usd brand new and a gigabyte a520m k pro for 42 usd brand new. The rest were from my old Intel system. It's better than what Intel could offer for the same price.
this cpu can be used for: (very low powerdraw) - home build router pc - media center pc to watch movies - small storage/file server its obsolete for gaming and mostly not worth it, to build a system around it unless u have more spare parts laying around.
New Sub; Detroit, Michigan, US Well done! I recycle PCs and turn them into RetroGame systems with my Daughters, parts are fairly cheap even for New Ram, so I get to teach them about PCs and they feel cool like dad for building their own computers for Armagetron Advanced Battles lol. Just a Tip: put the Processor name "Intel i3-8100" in the Title for better "Clicks"
Have an old 1060 3gb still around somewhere from a skylake era prebuilt, it's okay. I think these machines are probably fine for retro gaming but I'd go stronger than the i3 for online, typically i7s have a decent amount more cache. I still have an old Z390 mini itx-ac board around with 9600K, granted I wouldn't suggest anyone build that now (I remember the chip being around 199 at the time). I kind of enjoy recasing the older machines and frankensteining the parts together seeing how it all runs but I don't really game much on them. There can be an issue of stuttering in newer/updated titles playing online, not like I wanted to upgrade to 12th but felt like I needed to this year when the sales were on. Would also suggest the 6gb if anyone is looking at a 1060.
The 8400 is the boss of that generation and buying a system whole is the best bang of buck for super budget. I wouldn't be too surprised if a i7 2600 outperformed that 8100
I was going to suggest H410 / H510 boards however this question made me realise that they are mainly mATX. I would suggest looking at any B460 motherboards, however since they aren't available in stores it makes it a bit more difficult.

I have a i7 processor from 2016 in my computer and it still runs games just fine, same with the 1070ti.

Very well said, I agree
Wow this cpu is 6 years old. Meanwhile I'm still using my 2600k from a decade ago

Good stuff to know...thanks
I bought a Xeon E3-1240v5 that costed me $17, its a better buy. you can do a comparison.
Hey bro do you know any budget atx motherboard thats supports intel's 10th generation?

@@EverythingDesktops Thanks man you really helped me out.
if you getting 1060 get the 6gb
For gaming, better buy new system.
But this is okay for budget and low power Jellyfin server. (intel 7th gen and above)
MEGADETH RULES
*Best PC build ever :D*
what fool would buy this over Ryzen 1 1400-1600 . They are newer and cheap.
the i7 is better
