Thanks for the detail breakdown. I am tired of these tekken old heads with 2-3 decades of game knowledge just telling me to "just side step bro' with zero explanation as to when and how.
@@shaftmastr7753nigga doing the same thing he just complained about lmao, he prob did but come on bro a guide is much easier than using trial an error for each character, that each has 150 moves with varying level of tracking including to their weak sides
@@shaftmastr7753 Here it is again-your comment is basically like people saying, 'Just sidestep, bro.' That's why I appreciate this guy, he's really good at breaking down complex concepts and presenting them in a way that's easy for new players to understand.
@3ASY355 yeah dawg i started with tekken 8 too and like its not that complicated i literally just see a move and im like "hmm i wonder if i can side step here" and either it works or it doesnt. I’ve looked up advanced sidestepping guides for the last few weeks with no luck. Now you appear in my recommended and bless me with this amazing knowledge. I appreciate you sir, great video 🐐
this video is astounding. ive never heard a player describe the application of sidesteps with this sort of concise and goal-oriented explanation. too many guides just say to sidestep/block at around +3/-3, but not the why or the rationale. ive been playing tekken since t7 came out, and i never heard anyone properly articulate the perspective that jab > sidestep > block is the lowest risk way to create whiffs and set up advantage situations, and how much you really should be abusing it i played tonight for 4 hours just doing jab/df+1 into sidestep block every time, and launching peoples shit, and the results are immediate. its like walking on a cloud, i dont even need the rest of my moveset until im up against a good player
Great info! Definitely one of my weaknesses but you explained when it’s best to sidestep. I was sort of guessing unless I was at enough of a distance when they start a string.
11:36 this was something that took me a bit of time to realise, I kept trying to use f3 (on lili ofc slowish homing mid) to counter people doing sidestep blocks in situations like after df1. Obviously it didnt work lol, I realised that wasn't the answer but this video really confirms that point heheh. Subbed.
@@nobacktalk heheh it is that burni hello! Ye I know how frustrating it can be as well, players who consistently do it well, do almost cause me to have to shift my entire game plan cause it just creates so many whiffs if you're not careful. @@burni988 you definitely did along with a couple other people. sidestep blocking is just an insane move lol and it’s so risky to deal with in a rewarding way

yoshi’s df1 is a goated move too. i use it a lot to start mixups. ENDERBORN said i need to poke and move way more. df1 and 1 gonna go a long way for that.
go with jin laser scraper but the one with forward thrust. the 2nd string is jailing if the 1st is block. its partial jailing. you can avoid it with fast crouch. but not all char have fast crouch animation that was almost unsee able crouch. if you can do it fast enough (the crouch) you can side step the 2nd hit, even better with a standing attack. lidia have the fastest crouch animation, compare to paul and raven. check it if you have time.
I was just thinking something like this video could be useful, it couldn't have been better timed. If I might ask something - the part of sidestepping that I've personally always struggled with is just getting my hands used to doing it quickly and fluidly (what I've always thought of as "how do the pro players move around like that"), so I wanted to ask: do you have any recommendations or routines on how to practice that part of it?
I am a beginner and I had heard of side step block on immediate timing before. But for me the block almost eliminates all chances for punishing something "small". E.g. if I just side step a df1 and hail-mary a launcher, I can launch. But if I want to be safe and side step block, there is not enough time to do a big punish (I sometimes can get a jab in). Am I just being too slow?
Yes that would imply that you are too slow to the opponent whiffing his immediate option after you sidestepped. You should be able to sidestep and launch if the follow up of the opponent whiffs. Go into the lab and try to set Dragunov to do single jab into df2 (his launcher). If you sidestep (his weak side is right) right after you blocked his jab you should be able to immediately launch him as he will whiff his launcher. Then you should set up dragunov to do jab into b3 (which is a homing move). try now to sidestep and immediately hold back to block the homing move after his jab. Next I would set up Dragunov to mix up both options. This will force you to visually confirm if he has whiffed the move or if he is using the homing move (which you should have blocked) Not only that, but this will make you practice both sidestepping and blocking and at the same time be able to launch the dragunov for a whiff. Hope that helps!
So Dvj df1 is -6 on block , so this is to mutch frame disavantage to try side step block ? I should do it after jab or down 3 ? What other moves i should considering as a poke to side step in my offense ? Thank you for your answer
@@Nihl3375 yeah, among other reasons. nina has ss1 too which is like +10 on block. both those chars have a safe whiff punish launcher which make them both extremely good as well

Also do you recommend single or double tapping when stepping? And what’s the difference? Sorry I have a lot of questions I’ve been meaning to ask someone lol

Why do you think sidestep cancling is not so common, it was proven to be faster then Side walk for many characters.
Why do you recommend SS vs. sidewalk in T8? I've heard other players say the opposite so I'm curious what your reasoning is. Great video btw!
no idea why people say the opposite. if you get hit by a mid at sidewalk range, you get heat engaged. blocking is much safer
