I have one of these, there's an Etsy shop that makes a belt clip for it. Best purchase I've ever made, never had gaming more accessible at any instant while looking like an idiot
I would also like a device like this that runs Android, but hinged Android gaming devices (that aren't just folding screens / flipphones) are very rare to release. The last one we had was the Retroid Pocket Flip, which has been discontinued with no sign of a successor even though the response was "this is good, but it needs something to push it to greatness".
Just discovered you bud, seen tons of reviews on this already hyping this up, didn't think yet another review would be any different, but I took a chance, you still managed to a make a review that entertained me yet felt honest and authentic. SUBBED & LIKED.
I got the non SP version (ambernic 35xx) for like 30 bucks on sale and I’ve been having a blast with it. Wish I knew about the sp version before hand though because it looks super cool!
I wonder if a winged grip/accessory could be/ has been made that gives it analog support but out to the sides, via the C port? If it supports OTG I mean. Also be careful to not charge this thing via USB C to C, apparently they get super hot and can even ignite.
I have a similar console, the RG353V. I honestly recommend it more bc it comes with Kodi, Linux, and android. I would recommend cloning the sd cards to safer ones to prevent data loss, and it has 2 gigs of ram
So I have to say it, and kinda hate too, but depending on how you launched the games. There is actually a really decent chance that you didn't get fully power, and that more game/systems would play so much better
Whenever you get any of these Linux China Dinguses - Custom Rom, Custom Rom , Custom Rom pls. Although the stock firmware experience for these kinds of devices is not as bad as it used to be (considering that is used to be borderline unusable the bar is not very high) the community usually does wonders for both performance, aesthetics and usability. Also in what world do we expect 50 dollar devices to Emulate Wii and Gamecube, unfortunately it's still too soon.
I miss Patapon so much. Seriously Sony release updated/remastered Patapon 1-3 on PC and charge $20 per and you'll make $60 from me. But until then.... ya know..... Jack Sparrow time.
if you want wipeout in your pocket, I run the PSP version of wipeout pulse on a retroid pocket 4 pro with the FX350 modpack installed, and the hires texture pack, at a locked 60fps lmao. looks better than the PS2 version.
Android 14 is actually usable even with 1 gb of ram. I have a Samsung S3 with lineageos 21 installed on it. If you try this DO NOT install gapps. It becomes painfully slow and buggy. Also it would be nice to see what hardware it has. It might be stolen from a phone judging by the specs.
It has 1GB of RAM and an Allwinner H700 chipset (uses A53 cores). In general, making handhelds with Android is more expensive due to more advanced hardware needed, to ensure the device runs properly. Also keep in mind that Android handhelds require more software quality testing. This device also has 5ghz Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2 and a micro HDMI port.
Friend please do not try to usb-c fast charge or use any charger over 2 amps or you will get and angry LI battery situation there. for the rest the console is great, If you can afford to have a retroidpocket 4 pro together they are (for me) the perfect handhelds emulation combo.
Out of 50k+ units sold, only 3 reported cases happened. A few people did some extensive tests, and the occurrence of the battery exploding is very, very rare. I'm pretty sure most battery problems are caused by people feeding too much power into these things, which these retro handhelds always had problems with. Either way, I believe Anbernic changed the motherboard design slightly on newer units, so the issue should be gone now.
Loading custom software like muOS allows you to play GTA III and Vice City through PortMaster on these handhelds. Not sure if that counts as jailbreaking.
That kinda my issue with these custom handhelds, not alot of power for the price you pay and the controls are lacking for alot of the games it could play. You can get alot better by buying a old mid range smartphone and get a controller case like the razer kyshi or whatever its called and your golden
For the price of both of those things, you could easily buy the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro, which would be an infinitely better gaming experience with amazing controls, + it could run any Android game and emulate almost every system (except for the Switch, really).
@@skewyangel I was not aware of that hand-held and it seems like a pretty solid option apart from the control layout. Having the thumbsticks at the bottom on such a small handheld seems like a poor choice but 200$ for all that is a pretty good deal. Thanks for letting me know about that.
few tips i know about this device. 1: ALWAYS use the RA games option. for some reason the other game room option has GARBAGE performance??? 2: tapping the power button quickly changes the D-pad to work like a control stick. 3: this runs Linux, and there are guides online showing you how to update it to the latest firmware which I believe can use something called portmaster, letting you port Linux games to the device to play them.
I would have loved to know that double tap trick because I was trying to play a PSP game earlier that needed both the dpad and the analog stick and I gave up because of the lack of controls
@@JonBringus 0:49 - 0:51 I still have my childhood GBA SP in perfect working condition (I got it on Christmas of 2005 when I was 6), it's built like a tank. It makes the RG35XX SP look like a piece of shit when it's actually really awesome if you're using it for its intended purpose. granted, it does come with those emulators and games, but I'd like to think the whole point of the "SP" part was to market it as a fucking gameboy, which it's really good at being lol
Note: There are Ambernic models that do have Android, but the most expensive models (and the most expensive currently uses Windows and PC hardware) But the one you bought (The rg35XX SP) is on the cheaper line, so the rg35XX limit is PSP
This is by far my favorite emulation handheld I have ever owned. I saw a post on reddit about the hinge breaking, fingers crossed that doesn't happen to me. Why do so many reviews automatically jump to systems it can't play well?
the ppsspp core plugin in retorarch is pretty bad. saldy that such devices dont use standalone installations. many emus from more recent consoles are suffering from bad performance from such launchers which is odd
most of the time with these handhelds certain games run well and others just dont and people will compile entire lists of games and their specific settings to make them run as good or better than the original.
