    People who say "shoot the arm or leg" have probably never fired a gun before, let alone doing it in a high-stress situation with a moving target. It's unfortunate but he really did look like a serious threat.

    • @KreefS
      @KreefS 6 лет назад +3

      Not only that but a shot to the leg/arm can and will still kill. It's better to shoot where you know it will be effective and where you know you will hit.

      Lol how about the fact that cops get like basically no training and are not good at managing any type of violent situation... seriously, when you're delaing with people's lives the first step shouldn't be to take out a gun and blast them. American cops are basically just there to shoot anything that moves and could pose danger.

    • @sadesemolu

      I feel like that should be common knowledge. Like, anyone whose played Dead Space can tell you how hard limb shooting is. Let alone a real life or death situation.

      David he was bipolar and he apparently acted like that alot and people normally ignored it. It was gentrifiers who had just moved in that called the cops on him

    • @ThTgUy143
      @ThTgUy143 6 лет назад +20

      Amanda Thomas because he acted that way before doesn't justify him constantly doing it. If anything I'm surprised he had not been hurt before by someone. Also can you link me to the video or article you got your info from ?

    • @ThTgUy143

      Berry D and your not wrong he did clearly need mental help if he believed what he was doing was right . I also get that cops do need more training to be able to deal with these situations better. I just can't really defend or feel bad because of the way he was doing it. He wasn't pointing it at someone's face and then saying JK it's a pipe which is still fucked up but he was pointing it then running away. So no one really knew if it was or wasn't a gun they just knew it looked like a gun. If what Rick said is true he pointed the pipe at the cops and the cops are told someone is running around with a gun I can't blame them for shooting him.

    He probably had a mental crisis. My dad has bipolar and has strong moments and its very sad and police usually try to help if they understand the issue but it looked like a guy and they reacted like that. When some people with mental crisis are out of control its hard to help them till it subsides. Who knows how long it can take.

    He wasn't just in his backyard, chillin...he was running from the cops for a while, it was a chase, the bird had him in sight for a good amount of the chase. He was breaking car windows and hopping fences.
    The moment the cops shot him, prior to, you see him turn towards the cops with his hand extended.
    Two cops shot a total of 20 times, 8 hit.
    It was the middle of the night, and police had received multiple calls that someone was hopping fences breaking windows.
    There was a very good chance that he was indeed the perp.
    The way he behaved, it was pretty much suicide by cop, imo.

    10:00 That was a suicide by cop, he was holding his phone like a gun and standing in a shooting position (you can make this out on the police body cam). LEOs quickly turn corner and see the light from his phone thinking it was reflection from light on the slide of a gun and yell "Gun! gun! gun!" they quickly take cover behind corner and shoot him.
    He also was Googling ways to kill himself and earlier that day sent a picture of a bunch of pills in his hand to his fiance saying something like "If we don't get our family back together I will take all these", she replied something to the effect of "do it, I don't care".

    Tasers, sprays, and dogs don't work. I think we should try a net gun which would physical immobilize even if adrenaline is doing its thing, unless someone can prove that wrong. But this situation, the cops did the right thing. I just think when there are kids who cops think have real guns, they should access the situation better first if no one is currently in danger and immobilize first with the best method first without relying on a gun.
    Anyways, if there's no present danger, access the situation better and longer to confirm.
    If there is, do whatever.

    in one of my intro policing classes, one thing i remember is the prof saying its better to be judged by 12 people than 1, what this means is, in a situation where you are or could be in danger, its better to take out the potential threat and face a jury than potentially be harmed by one person with a weapon

    Police arent trained to shoot to kill they are trained to shoot to stop. That is why the question "Did they have to kill him" is always asked, and it is valid........ most of the time it 100% depends on the situation, but using deadly force is always optional.

      CORRECTION. Police are trained to shoot to kill, not to stop. If a police officer has to pull the trigger they are intending to kill.

    The situation in Sacramento was justified in my opinion. You get a call of a black man in a hoodie breaking into people's cars and property, police helicopter spots a man fitting the description and pursuit on foot, spot a man jumping fences and when they get close to him see a dark object in his hand and open fire. If he wouldn't have ran and acted shady it wouldn't have happened the way it did

    • @yowayyo
      @yowayyo 6 лет назад +11

      Collister Kannah Most school shootings end with the shooter dead either by their own hands or someone else's. A black male holding a woman hostage would get talked down, also, as trying to shoot him could likely kill the hostage.

    • @plaiqnum
      @plaiqnum 6 лет назад +12

      acted shady? If cops are chasing it natural instinct for humans to flight or fight, fitting the description doesn't justify killing someone, fitting the description is just another way to group black males into one big stereotype.

  • @illestgyal

    I think both Jknews and the viewers should educate themselves on bipolar disorder prior to commenting on this story. It makes a complete difference to how the situation could've been handled, yet was barely mentioned in the video by anyone. The most y'all touched on was how similar he looked like to Chingy. Had you known what he was going through, a manic episode, you'd also know that his actions are out of his control and he's so far gone out of his body as that's what happens during a manic episode. Those in that state of mind should be hospitalized/brought to the nearest ER as they make impulsive/aggressive decisions with 10 times the amount of confidence they normally have. I agree that what he did was scary and warranted police intervention. I don't think he should've been killed. I understand police shoot to kill as the last resort, however there must be better policies in place. It's sad this is what the society's mentality is like towards the topic. Basically the vibe I'm getting from a lot of these comments are it's too much work to properly train officers on how to de-escalate mental health situations so it's "the better option" to just shoot and kill them. Also people are confusing being bipolar with being mentally challenged. Totally different things, and pretty offensive to people with bipolar. Though I'm sure those making the comments won't really care at the end of the day. Ignorance is bliss. Smh, the society is the problem. Rest in peace to that man. Sad how it played out.

    • @AutumnSwift2
      @AutumnSwift2 6 лет назад

    • @illestgyal
      @illestgyal 6 лет назад

      Autumn Swift not really my point. I get what you're saying though, and I understand that these situations are high stress, requiring quick thinking. However, better protocols should be put in place to deal with similar future scenarios. Mental illness is so widespread now, soon enough every front line staff will have some sort of training/knowledge of how to handle mental health situations. I already see it happening. Just some food for thought. Thanks for sharing tho

    • @giantmess4335
      @giantmess4335 6 лет назад

      problem is even if mental illness is widespread(im on meds too) not everyone who is mentally ill is going to act in a way to show he is a mental case. one day some people can snap and blackout not everyone is going to act like the people in any asylum movie. and even if im just a civie id rather go to jail alive than die just because some angry idiot goes to his car to get some big knife or a gun or even if the people have something in thier hands and i feel a threat ill not hesitate to beat them with my cane before the weapon they hold is now within inches of me. ill survive and fuck them up or die trying but he will leave blood behind.

    I cant blame the cops either... if he kept doing that (and he whips it out real fast) people will definitely react as if it was a real gun. They only see it for a few seconds. I would report that shit too. And the cops were put on high alert and you cant expect them to take their time assessing the situation because it can go south immediately. And its hard to expect them to aim for the legs or arm because for sure when they were being warned they were already prepping to just take the threat down. Yeah hes bipolar, its very unfortunate but cops cant risk their lives and others as well for this one man. It sounds heartless but what can you do? Its not the people nor the cops fault. Its his alone even with his bipolar disorder. Also consider that he pointed it at the cops. At that point its like “kill or be killed”

    • @ThTgUy143
      @ThTgUy143 6 лет назад +1

      Exactly ! I get other situations were it was clear that the person was not a threat. In this case tho he was moving fast and if what Rick said is true and he pointed it at the cops as soon as they pulled up then it's really not their fault for reacting the way they did.

    Being bipolar doesn't mean the guy had the mind of a child and didn't know better. Bipolar generally involves drastic mood swings from deep depression to mania. During the depressive cycle , sufferers often think about suicide and during the manic phases sufferers often display erratic and dangerous behavior. This disorder is treatable with medication. Can't blame the police in this event, if someone acts like they have a gun and numerous people have reported that he has a gun, then you have to assume he has a gun and proceed accordingly. Sad event and I'm sure everyone involved is somewhat depressed over the final outcome.

    I live in south central and today on this windy ass day I heard the chopper three times. Man its too cold, to be out there committing crimes!! But people, don't believe what anyone says about south LA being crazy and dangerous, we are all friends here.
    My moms car got crashed into by a drunk driver last year and he was trying to get away. Everyone ran out literally with sticks in their hands ready to beat some ass and stop him.

    Hey, I'm all for making fun of people that deserve it. Clown on rapists and killers all you like JK.
    But making fun of a dead bipolar man takes it a bit too far. And this comes from a guy that has no problem with taking a joke far, but this is a bit too far. Having understanding for the cops shooting him is fine with me. He really looked like he had a gun, I'm not debating that. However, talking in a ''moronic'' voice and making fun of the looks of a mentally ill man that didn't hurt anyone takes it too far. He freaking died.
    Making fun of someone and saying RIP also doesn't really work. I get that the JK crew lives in a sheltered LA environment (or even worse: an LA RUclips celeb environment with only yes-men around them), but have a heart. Again, no problem with making fun and crazy jokes about people that deserve it. Clown all you want on a guy or girl that just stole his/her parents money, a guy that robbed a store etc. A guy with a mental disorder that just got killed........ really, you really have the need to joke about him? Imagine his little brother being a JK fan and tuning into this heartless handclapping laughter.
    I know this won't sit well with the 12 year old JK extreme fanboys and girls that just regurgitate and defend everything the JK crew says, but have a heart too, will you? I'm a fan of this group of people, but this is just dumb and disrespectful.

      I have to agree with u. It felt really uneasy how they were making fun of him. Skilled comedians can make fun of people that deserve it or make themselves the butt of the joke while encountering real people. Best example of that is Conan. Trash people stay trash people tho. Bart, David and the rest were raised as trash and with them having money now doesn't mean they will behave respectfully towards a dead mentally challenged man. Can't take the thug mentality out of someone.

    Personally, I feel as though the cops did there job, plain and simple. They got reports of someone who was weilding a gun. Of course in the end he wasn't, but the people that feared their lives for a split second when they saw that dude point something silver and shiny and long, the had to assume that it was a gun and had to assume that he was going to potentially kill or injure a person. The cops did what they had to do, take down a threar until the situation is back to normal. For people that say "shoot for the legs" "shoot for the arms" thats not gonna do any sort of good. Remember that bullets *not hollow points* but bullets themselves are meant to go through objects. Shooting for the arm could potentially go through the bone and the muscle and hit an innocent person and thats the last thing that Police want. Shooting the legs is even more dangerous because there could be an artery that can be punctured and the person of question could be in some serious and possibly irreversible damage. Shooting Center Mass is something that they are trained to shoot at because there is enough muscle and tissue for the bullet to stay in tje body rather than gping through the body and hitting another person. Plus it takes down said person and keep them down.

    For people that bash US for their "pro-gun" laws... I live in the Czech Republic (central Europe). Gun laws here are one of the least restrictive in the world (except for strict background and health checks every couple years). But gun-related crime is very low. It's because of culture and history. Our government even encourages its citizens to arm themselves even though EU is doing the exact opposite. We even are able to freely shoot in a case of terrorism. Same laws cannot be applied in US because it would probably throw the country into chaos (not necessairly). We don't worry that the government will go against us. The constitution doesn't permit it and it doesn't make sense to do so to begin with. It is in case another country tries to take over the government and army so the citizens can protect themselves.
    BTW. Czech has +10mil citizens +300k of them have a gun license. There are +800k registered firearms. We make one and export lots of guns. We are one of the safest countries out there. And if I had the money I'd carry a 50 cal Barrett just for fun xD

    so a few years ago , I saw this guy walking down the street scaring people. it was during a hot day and he had a BIG black coat on, and a toy gun. He went around pretending to shoot people and he clearly wanted to scare people because he laughed when he scared someone. I took some pics of him. I'm in Israel, it was around the time there was war here.

    You know what's sad? This. So someone who pretends to have a gun and literally walks up to people, pretends to shoot them, when cops come all they have was someone had a gun. Of course they're going to shoot! Just because he didn't have a real gun/weapon suddenly the crowd goes wild, but if it was a real gun everyone would tell the cops that they're heroes.

    I get a lot of flack for being anti-cop in supporting several black lives matter related causes but I want to Cupsaw with us they don't know his mental state when he's pointing a gun at them they haven't got to talk to them all they know is that he was pointing a gun at them in many peoples also thought he was pointing a gun at him and I'm glad of the community came out and said yeah we don't blame them because we to also thought it was a gun. That's how you handle a situation. When the entirety of a community says that they don't believe the police then you need to do an investigation.
