there is no horizontal line at the corner to move one leg towards the other...you can only do that at the center

Is it used when performing the baat jaam dao butterfly swords?

It helps with any basic footwork drills as a way to reference the different angles and foot positions.

Couldn't help myself. You DO know that those diagonal bars you have taped down are NOT 60° angles! ...at least not the way you made them!!! You have a 90° cross, and then another 90° cross set on a 45° diagonal, bisecting the first angles. The result is a "pie" of eight 45° angles to create a full 360° circle. Super basic geometry, man. Anyway its still OK as a training reference ...but it's not precisely the 60-60-60 equilateral triangle classically associated with the WC "Character-two" stance. What you have is actually too pigeon toed even for Yee Gee Kim Yeung Ma.
For what it's worth, a buddy of mine has this exact same pattern taped on his garage floor. He's from the Sam Kwok/Yip Chun lineage. My sifu was Leung Ting. Regardless, I don't use it, except sometimes to illustrate Escrima footwork.
